>guy in Tony's crew gets killed by him or New York
>this goes on for six seasons in between endless family drama
how is this crap so highly rated? Tony's wife and sister and mother are all irritating as fuck.
>>
Uncs thought it was crazy and revolutionary to have a fat evil oily man as the main character instead of an attractive white good man, that's literally their only praise of the series. Plus it imitates scorseseslop which normies think is the pinnacle of film

Moral of the story is it's never worth being a bad person

You sound brown.

People who think this show is about the mob either haven't seen it or they're just fully retarded.
>>
The storylines are a bit formulaic. Guy gets out of prison, he's too psycho for the other mobsters, Tony or someone kills him at the end of the season.
But I watched Sopranos for the main cast, for the way it gets you to sympathise with the mobsters, have fun with them, watching them cracking jokes and having a good time, and then BAM! they just shot someone for no reason, this is who you wanted to be friends with? You were laughing along with this guy's jokes a second ago but now you remember he's a murderer.
>>
Scorsese hates it because might as well be watching one of his movies I mean literally everything down to the actors themselves have all been ripped off from him movies

I think they did slight variations of this storyline 4 times. Richie, Feech, Tony B, and Phil

Two other storylines they rehashed were:
1- FBI informant stuff with Pussy then Adrianna.
2- Young guys want to get connected and fail miserably. First with Matt/Sean then Jacky Jr.

well yes it's one of those shows that wasn't expected to run as long as it did, so they needed to re-use old plots and make shit up as they went along. for example Steve Buscemi just turns up out of nowhere as a cousin that was never previously mentioned.

It has good characters and it's funny (you do realise it's a comedy, yes? Do you need a laugh track?).
What is there not to understand?

Fundamental stylistic difference. Scorsese has far more of an infatuation with the Mafia.
I might go as far as to say Sopranos isn't even really about the Mafia as much as it's about a fat hypocritical American Boomer father, and how he struggles between wanting to present as a strong guy, and actually being a highly insecure overgrown child, who has to visit a therapist to complain about his mother, way into his 40's.
It's also about how all of these people are slowly being turned into Americans, as much as they may protest, and insist upon their Italian identity.
>>
>>217463002
It's highly rated because it's the greatest show in TV history
>>
>>217463002
In the 90s the big theme was
>regular office guy having depression and then shit happens
They did exactly that, but instead of a regular office guy it was the perception of a mob boss. How he has the same problems as everyone, how he is depressed. I feel like it could get much better, but his mother died and that made the family drama stuff to almost vanish.

But what this has shown me is that mob life is literally just a ponzi scheme, with more money and bitches, but one wrong move and you either die or get thrown to jail. So I don‘t know how anyone can see this and be like „I want to be a gangster“
>>
>>217464956
yeah, it's strange. People are that infatuated with Tony's big house and material wealth? Even though it's all hollow and garish, and doesn't make anyone in the family truly happy? Even though they spell it out that these guys all have nostalgia for the 50's, when they didn't have so much stuff?
>>
>>217463959
It’s the latter for most unfortunately
