>Yeah, I didn't like a Lynch film>Wtf dude? Did you even try watching it on acid broTop kek, why are midwit Lynch druggies like this?
>>217466259Artsy films are trash. Theres no a single high concept movie that isnt the dumbest piece of crap that so called experts clap forJust saying a bunch of random shit and claiming its all a metaphor doesnt make your movie smart or deep. Its just meaningless drivel
Most Lynch movies is just a series of ideas for scenes, he's said this himself. If you expect any grand narrative or a throughline in his movies, you'll be sorely disappointed. It's movies you watch and appreciate for the weirdness it creates.
>>217466284Heh, but have you tried watching them on acid?
>>217466259People who need to resort to drugs to watch media probably lack imagination or internal monologue
Flicking a light switch repeatedly feels profound and compelling when you're on acid.
>>217466259Have you tried it, though?
>>217466300So he's a complete midwit incapable of making a concise piece? In any other artform this kind of approach would be considered amateurish. Just goes to show that films are mere products, and little more.
>>217466720>In any other artform this kind of approach would be considered amateurish.Surrealism didn't originate in cinema but agreed it is the realm of hacks.
>>217466259>you have to be on drugs to enjoy it!ugh I hate boomers so much
>>217466720>in any other art formNot true at all
Aren't all movies on drugs good?t. non-druggie
>>217466883Nah
>>217466284>>217466300This shit is not artsy or "weird", it's just shit
>>217466720Narrative has always been the crutch of the midwit. Any idiot can follow the plot and be "story good". But once you take away the narrative and force the viewer to make connections on their own, when you make the viewer an active participant, that's when retards tap out.
I like Lynch but Inland Empire is unwatchable and the dogshit cheapo digital look doesn't help. One of the good things of pre IE Lynch films is that they were top notch visually.
>>217466259Inland Empire is a great film. It's an experience unlike anything else. The best way to watch it is to leave it on as you go to sleep. I'm not joking. It will enter your dreams and you will wake up in a nightmare.
>>217466979This. Lynch is generally amazing but Inland Empire is not a good movie. Not all of his attempts at experimentation have resulted in good films and the people who will just pretend it's good because they think they're supposed to are the real midwits.
>>217467012No, it fucking isn't. It's total fucking garbageKill yourself >>217467013>Lynch is generally amazingNo, "he" isn't, what the fuck are you talking about? Everything "he" ever did is shit>his attempts at experimentationWhat?
>>217466979>>217467013You're right. It's not a "good film". It's a great film. It has nothing to do with being a mid wit. It's about being open to a new experience, and Inland Empire provides that. Maybe you don't know how to make yourself have that experience, and so you reject the film. But, like I just posted, put it on while you are going to bed and see what happens.
>>217467044I've tried to watch it twice and both times I ended up quitting halfway in>uhh dude it's supposed to be uncomfortable!well fuck you I'm too old for this
It is completely okay to watch surrealist film in shorts and segments. Call it the old cut-up method, it’s all just mood and association anyways
>>217466926>Narrative has always been the crutch of the midwit.Narrative driven storytelling is always the pinnacle of art be it literature or cinema.Any druggie can watch a dream sequence and be "bro that was like an acid trip. Pure vibes bro">when you make the viewer an active participantArt isn't a video game manchild.
>>217467643This. You're an active participant while playing video games but that does not make it an intellectual activity lmao.
>>217466300I think I was only slightly sour about this approach via Twin Peaks s3. There is a lot of good in it but TP was a preestalished series where Lynch worked with Frost, the network, etc. so it didn't conform to pure Lynchian films he made prior and after. And then with s3 the pre-estalished non-pure Lynchian TP became pure Lynchian. A bit frustrating.
>>217466259Ummm did you even get that its meant to be DREAM LOGIC, chuddo? sounds like you got LYNCHED sweatie.
>>217466883I tried to watch 2001 while stone cold sober and was unable to finish it. Went back and tried to rewatch it on acid and still couldn't finish it.
this will be my first lynch film im watchinga girl friend of mine invited me to watch blue velvet but i fell asleep 25 min in, thats all the prior lynch experience i have
>25 minutesIs it actually difficult for people to sit and look at a tv for that long?
>>217466259What kind of a fucking loser eats mushrooms at 30 yo?
>>217468119>drugs are only for kids
>>217466926>here’s a flowerpot, a doorknob and a chair>what, you can’t envision a 14 bedroom victorian mansion? what are you some kind of narrative-dependent midwit?
ITT:
>>217466259>sober or stoned I don't care for pretentious slop>YEAH but have you tried it on shrooms, maaaan?
>>217468433Well, have you?
The new users of this board are just shitty brown "people". They just vomit rightoid twitter talking points. There's no insight or humor. The world will be better off when you subhumans ack
>>217466284>and claiming its all a metaphorI guarantee Lynch would cringe at even that. His position was firmly "my work is what you think it means, not what I think it means" because he felt we had the last word on it not him.
>>217466720>In any other artform this kind of approach would be considered amateurishNo one teaching or practicing an art form would be that orthodox; at most a film school would emphasize visual and tonal structure with only the screenwriting segment discussing 3 act structure, timing, callbacks and the importance of not attempting to direct from the script. Zoomers consistently assume whatever makes sense to them is how the outside world works.
>>217468509Exactly. He enjoyed the idea of everyone sat around, sharing drinks and theories after a film.
>>217467138>tried to watch itIt's a 90 minute experience, do you have withdrawal symptoms being away from your phone that long
>>217468451Drugs kill your braincells.
>>217468577IE is three hours, unless you meant watching it in two goes of 90 minutes.
>>217466926>when you make the viewer an active participant, that's when retards tap out.Ideally narrative allows the audience to unwrap the underlying story for themselves instead of being didactic. Lynch was far more concerned with establishing a deep mood enveloping the audience as much as the characters but not a left-brain whodunit here's the answer kind of story. Those of us who watched Twin Peaks concerned with who killed Laura weren't entirely satisfied with the show's disinterest in the actual solution (either Lynch's intended or Snow's cancellation wrapup). I think film succeeds better than television or literature as a medium where feeling is the ultimate goal rather than plot because it's arguably closer to painting or sculpture in this regard.
>>217466300This is a concise, fair assessment of his work. He was really not an artsy-fartsy type but he was driven by mood and imagery. Art is human expression for affect. His goal was to make you feel things more than anything.
>>217467694>There is a lot of good in it but TP was a preestalished series where Lynch worked with Frost, the network, etc. so it didn't conform to pure Lynchian films he made prior and after. And then with s3 the pre-estalished non-pure Lynchian TP became pure Lynchian.ya and every single episode turned out better than any episode in TPs2 and even some of the filler episodes of s1. the network notes absolutely destroyed the show and pure lynchian brought it back
>>217467694Frequently the worst work of a collaborative artist comes in their later period when their collaborators, editors etc. are dismissed because the creativity necessitated by disagreement, compromise and limited resources is gone.
>>217468022Zoomers and alphas? Oh yeah
>>217467138I did finish it and apart from 2 scenes, it was way more poopy the longer it went on
>>217466720>Elephant man>The Straight Story>Dune>EraserheadHe’s made plenty of narrative driven movies you’re just a moron
>>217466720>>217466839Surrealism isn't inherently amateurish. Bunuel's films were substantial.
>>217466259next time you go to reddit, stay there
>>217468765The worst period in Twin Peaks history is when Mark Frost AND David Lynch weren't there and the collaborators had to handle the plot
>>217468794and Blue Velvet, by far his more normal film.
>>217468794For me it's the narrative-driven Eraserhead.
>>217468685you don't even know what brain cells are, let alone what mushrooms do to them
>>217468685Also killing neurons>puking>a stroke>less than 5 hours of sleep for 2 years>being near any peticide for more than 30 minutes>touching lead >saltBasically the world you live in gets more retarded by the minute
>>217468982>marriage sucks shit >the first couple years of having a child ruins your lifetruly, ONLY a pretentious stoner film school burnout could pick up on these themes in eraserhead. it's literally impossible to even slightly understand what is being implied if you're just a regular person
