>>217467446For all good he was in the role and for the show, he actively hurt the show in his later seasons with his behaviour behind the scenes and view on what the show should be. Sure not all of the problems in that era are a result of him (you can get into things like Mary Whitehouse, inflation killing the budget and so on) yet he was a detriment. You can argue that he helped carry weaker serials in said later seasons, but that 1) ignores how to some extent what makes them so weak in writing comes from the direction he wanted the show to go, and 2) that does not negate that he could have carried them and still have been a professional on set. The Talons of Weng-Chiang is his best serial.
