Honestly its insane that Disney put their A-team on Pocahontas and yet Lion King turned out to be the more loved film, even with the B-team leading on it

>disney princess film starring 90s mel gibson
>vs hamlet with lions
it’s not like they phoned it in. someone part of the “b-team” in 90s disney animation is still an elite animator.
>>
>>217472685
well their A-team either sucked or ran out of steam while the B-team was secretly good
>>
>>217472912
naw dude, pocahontas is legit gorgeous. the thing is that disney got high on their own supply and thought a movie about a squaw bitch and brow beating people about colonialism was gonna sell better to kids than cute animals.

>28-year-old White male marries a 17-year-old Injun girl
YIKES!
>>
>>217472685
No it wasn't. The mid 90's was the Golden Age for furry perverts
>>
>>217472685
The real lesson here is that animators and art directors need to appreciate writers more and everyone needs to accept that they're nothing without good writers, and they need to apologize to writers for undervaluing them, and if this dichotomy didn't teach you then Brother Bear will.

Lion King has a better villain and heroes Journey.

Gov. Ratcliffe is a forgettable villain.

Scar is a top 10 villain
>>
>>217473342
Scar is shit he's only elevated by Jeremy Irons who is kino in anything. You have a child's taste lmao.
>>
>>217473342
>dig up virginia boys
>savages savages barely even human
ratcliffe is based beyond belief

Counterpoint: The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under
>lets kidnap a kid and enslave then murder them for logically questionable reasons! lmao!
horrendous stories yet two of the best cartoons of all time because they look beautiful

My uncle was 27 and married a 17-year-old girl here in Australia in the late 70s. Her parents had no problem with it. Pretty sure he knocked her up and she had her first kid at 18 too.

You're all fucking retards. Lion King isn't the movie that Pocahontas was developed concurrently with; Sleeping Beauty is.
>>
>>217473261
this is written like a satirical post but it's completely true. I don't get it
>>

I'm not a writer
>>
>>217472855
This. Even something like A Goofy Movie, which was clearly a lower budgeted film compared to their big releases and animated by their French Studio was still a good quality movie
>>
>>217474657
>The project went into development concurrently with The Lion King (1994), and attracted most of Disney's top animators.
>>
>>217474657
>Concurrently (adverb): simultaneously
>The idea for The Lion King was conceived in late 1988 during a conversation between Jeffrey Katzenberg, Roy E. Disney, and Peter Schneider on a plane to Europe to promote Oliver & Company.
>Walt Disney's animated classic Sleeping Beauty was released in theaters in the USA on January 29, 1959
>>
>>217474657
>Sleeping Beauty
>Lion King
>concurrently
Anon...

The people replying to you are lying for whatever reason because he’s the most forgettable villain next to that guy from the Black Cauldron who I couldn’t even remember the name of but people pretend is the coolest villain evar in fact Pocahontas never even encounters him and the two never have any dialogue. The movie could be entirely the same without Ratcliffe even being involved.
