>remake is superior to the originalName 3 other times this has happened besides The Ring
>>217477570why not just fuck the ghost
>>217477633>why not fuck ghost girls who want to kill you Gee I don't know why..

It's not better.>>2174780351930s Scarface is better and the 80s is hardly a remake anyways
>>217477570The ThingThe MaskDune
>>217477570The Grudge is a better example since it's the same set and crew just different actors and a higher budget, plus the experience of having already just made it the first time.
>>217478382The Thing is not a remake.
>>217477570I liked it better when I was younger, but I rewatched both recently and the American version didn't age well. The green filter is so over the top and distracting. The Japanese one is painfully slow, but the build up to the final scene feels more earned. And Samara isn't very scary. Seeing her face deflates her mystique. And the decayed Samara looks like a troll from LOTR
>>217478382>The ThingNot a remake>The MaskBarely>DuneLol no
>>217477570Do they need to be horrors?Night & Dawn of the DeadThe BlobSuspiriaChildren of the Corn 2009
>>217477570Aside from the one you posted, Cape Fear. Back then Scorshitty still knew how to make a good film.
>>217479381>SuspiriaI bet you this opinion would get you killed if /v/ was a room full of people talking irl
>>217479464>Real people would kill you for having wrong opinion... ok?Have you tried being in an actual room full of people, rather than terminally online?
>>217479491What I meant to say you fucking retard is that your opinion isn't a popular one here
>>217477570Sahara '95 > Sahara '43Wicked Lady '83 > Wicked Lady '45The Rocketeer > King of the Rocket Men
>>217479512Then say that, instead of making retarded statements. And then ask yourself: why should I care either way if my own opinions about my personal tastes are popular anywhere at all
>>217477570Ocean's 11
>>217477633He doesn't know...
>>217477570>The blob (1988)Do I actually find the original entertaining and its use of some effect shots pretty cool? Yes.Does the remake blow it out of the water? In every way imaginable. Better characters, better effects, better story, wayyyyy better finale. I can appreciate the cheesy original but accept the remake just plain did the same concept better.>The Mummy (1999)Yes, this is a remake. The reason you don't know it's a remake is the original is PAINFULLY dull and even when talking about classic horror movies nobody brings it up. Do not take this to mean the original Universal Monster Movies are dull, they're not. Most of them are pretty good. Some of them are still classics. The 1932 movie is absolutely not one of them. It's plodding, it explains everything to a painful degree and the characters are flat as hell. It is not worth your time, but the Brandon Fraiser movie is just pain good as an adventure film.>Rat RaceDidn't know this was a remake? Can't blame you, their titles changed pretty drastically, but it is a legit remake of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad world from 1963. And it's actually fun! Does the remake do a lot better? Yes, but if you haven't seen it, it's totally worth a watch if you like older comedies. Be warned though, it's stupid long for what it is, and frankly that's why the remake gets so far ahead. A lot of stuff could've been cut in this original that the remake streamlined better.
>>217479707>The 1932 movie is absolutely not one of them. The remake is cgi slop for little children.
>>217479381none of these are remakes
>>217477570>The RingLaughable and overrated trash.
>>217478035The naked gun is a REBOOT not a remake AND it's NOT BETTER AT ALL, you retard
>>217479828Buddy, pal, friend, bucko. There is no world where the original Universal Mummy is better in any way than the Brandon Fraiser remake. None. The acting is worse. The pacing is glacial. The story is every bit as nonsensical and even makes the sin of being weirdly padded for an already relatively short movie. CGI slop for little children is still better than the alternative. To clarify, because nobody else has seen it and might think "Well clearly this is just a more cerebral thinky movie and this random fuck just needs his flashy lights." It's not. It is not a smart movie. It does not posit any ideas or do anything unique with the idea a character is literally a living mummy just walking around looking like a regular as guy. This is not Ran where it's slow as fuck but it's slow because it has a lot to say, it is slow because it does not have the budget for its idea and it does not have the script to fill in the timeframe wisely. There's a reason it's mostly forgotten and it's a good one.
>>217479852I'm pretty certain all of them are.
>>217479852>The blob >Not a remakeAre you retarded or did you not know there's one from the 50's
>>217479707... Rat Race is a remake?Fuck...
>>217478035The naked gun remake is so fucking bad. I gave it a chance but turned it off after an hour. I wanted to like it but it's just soulless garbage
Sorcerer
>>217479914The point is whether or not it's better than the original, and it is.
>>217480084Yes and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World is quite a bit bigger, it's a full on comedy epic that has some crazy sets and sequences in its 3 hour runtime. Yes... 3 hours. That's really what holds it back, when it shines it does better than most of the stuff from Rat Race, but god above does it have entire 10-20 minute sections where you're not laughing or thinking much of anything and that's just hard to justify for a comedy. It is 100 percent absolutely worth a watch and a classic in its own right, but bluntly put Rat Race knew not to hold on quite so long to a joke that had already gotten its laughs.
>>217480270Never heard of Rat Race but I'll check it out as a fan of IAMMMMW. Unfortunately that movie does waste precious time on tons of celebrity cameos that today are mostly obscure or unrecognizable. I'll second recommending it because its best sequences really are some of the funniest bits of physical comedy in any movie. I wouldn't mind seeing somebody make a more streamlined edited version. Also, there's actually an extended edition that runs for over three hours included in the Criterion release. Haven't seen it yet since the only time I've watched the disc was to show it to my wife for the first time and I figured it'd be best to start with the original version.
