Even reddit has zero hype. Their most hopeful comment is: Since its 'like two episodes', it must have cost much less than a series so it can't lose them that much money. And I haven't seen a single person mention Sigourney. The nerd bait didn't work
i am both dumber and smarter than you think. never estimate me.
filoni killed all the good grace with his shitty waifu episodes and spinoff and butchering the fett man himselfthen andor came along and put a stake in stake in it by showing how good a well written star wars ip could be
>>217480690>fans refuse to watch it and reviewbomb the movie >movie flops>fans point at the box office and say "see, nobody cares about Star Wars anymore"
>>217480853but sigourney is in it... that's ripley, man. 'get away from that bitch' and stuff. you know?
>>217480853>then andor came along and put a stake in stake in it by showing how good a well written star wars ip could be
>>217480853>how good a well written star wars ip could beWhat a shame. People I know have said the exact same thing. I adore the OT. I still have zero desire to watch this. It kind of makes me sad. I'm sure it's a fine show I'm just completely apathetic. After everything that's happened to this franchise over the decades I like to view the OT as some kind of time capsule and pretend George died during the making of Episode I and stipulated in his will no one was ever allowed to finish it and somehow legally took all his copyrights with him to the grave. At least I'd be dead by the time the franchise hit public domain. Sure I'm aware they whored it out almost instantaneously. The Holiday Special was a real thing that happened. The difference is, people knew the special was a lazy cash grab. When you watch a movie like Last Jedi or a show like Obi Wan where everyone was (allegedly) trying their absolute hardest and everything is presented as super serious but the result is that lame, lame, uninspired shit one gets pretty turned off.
Should have just left it at the Sneed ending.
>>217480922>studios make bad Star Wars movies over and over>the next one flops>fans continue not to careHow is this on the fans? What was the last good Star Wars movie? Why SHOULD anyone care?
>>217480690I'm only interested in pirating it. They'll get no more money out of me, i've learned my lesson.
>>217481445Based. I think my biggest issue with Mando, because I liked the first season, is making Grogu a character. He was a fun macguffin. Problem is he sold too much merchandise. "Hey let's make sure to develop this deep bond between a character whose face we never see and who rarely speaks with a character INCAPABLE OF SPEAKING with a fake face that can't convincingly emote." These people are legitimately all some combination of extremely cynical or stupid. I don't have a problem with nonverbal character interactions. It can be some of the most powerful acting. But again, that clearly was never the intention when they decided to make the two facing off a helmet and a baby cartoon face. It had never occurred to me JUST how stupid all of this is until I started typing out this post. Holy shit.
>>217480954andor was garbage
>>217481064its absolutely not a "fine show". season one has a few decent episodes and if they'd managed to keep it at that level throughout I'd even go so far as to rank it as a good show in the current state of SW but they absolutely didn't.
>>217480922desu I wonder how long filoni will stay at the helm, kennedy presided over the entirety of the flubbering and only just now stepped down, but a relative nobody like filoni who cannot play corporate politics half as well as he can suck up to someone who can doesn't indicate a long tenure to me. but also disney bleeds money 24/7 and hardly cares so who knows
>>217481893Season 2 was unreal. I've never seen a show more obsessed with its own turds.
Lmao they've been trying to turn King Arthur shit in space to War and Peace in space for over 50 years now. It's a movie about a farm boy with secret noble blood being mentored by a good wizard to defeat the evil wizard in a sword fight. He just happens to ride a fantastic looking space ship to do it. I love George for the visionary he is and for bringing us the OT and Indiana Jones but I'm not sure if he ever really got this part. He understands the distinction. The prequels proved that the politics, plotting, and philosophy were what he was really into and I respect that. But that archetypal hero's journey and those archetypal characters were what made people fall in love with Star Wars. In a way that's its own mythology even if it's more simple. Sometimes those stories can be just as profound.
What I want to know is why they haven't been able to come up with an interesting title for one of these movies, or at least one that doesn't sound incredibly awkward, since The Last Jedi.>Solo: A Star Wars Story>Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker>The Mandalorian and Grogu>Star Wars: StarfighterSay them out loud. They somehow get increasingly worse.
>>217481750that was part of it as Season 1 is basically perfect and works as 'kung fu in space' show and it could have stayed like for half a dozen seasons or more and people would still be enjoying it. Handing off grogu to luke was the best thing to happen and then they just went and undid it, but the show had already started to get stuffed with stupid Filoni ideas and characters and backstories only he gives a shit about.
>>217482012The prequel trilogy kinda necessitated a move away from the classic hero's journey story structure, simply because the established canon meant that the prequels had to end with Anakin falling to the dark side to become Vader and the Republic becoming the Empire. When you're telling a story that has a predetermined outcome that the audience already knows about, and that outcome is basically the maximally bad end, you've got to diverge pretty far from normal narrative conventions to tell that story.
>>217480724Based and literally me.>>217480690Faggot Plebbitor.
>>217480690Fucking terrible title for a film.
>>217481750i felt tricked by 'The Mandalorian is actually good', watched season 1 and didn't like it (although i liked the ideas of it, bounty hunter/space western show, neat.)luckily i was then UN-tricked by Andor which i thought was pretty solid.my question to you Mando-heads:what have they revealed about Baby Yoda? Yoda's species was one of the things George Lucas wouldn't allow people to explore. i think they rejected some trading card art because it showed a Yodaling other than Yaddle or that guy from KotOR.is he just going to start talking, like Ash's Pikachu in that one Pokémon movie?
well, they did kill mandalorian at the end of season two and nothing they can do can do will unfuck that
>>217482369BRING ON THE TIME TRAVEL
>>217482369wasn't ashoka in season 2 too? lmao
>>217482114You're right and I applaud George for being creative. I think prequels were a mistake to begin with. I think the lore is more interesting in the mysterious way it's presented in the OT. The fall of the Jedi and Republic happening a single generation before the events of the OT is kind of an issue to me in general. I know these events are mentioned in the OT but (and this is admittedly headcannon) it always felt heavily implied these were the definitive events of a long, steady decline. Vader is seen as perhaps the last of his kind to his contemporaries. It's odd to watch the "lack of faith" scene in the context that every single person there is old enough to remember a time where there were literally thousands of Jedi serving a de facto political role across the entire galaxy. Again, "head canon" is a very valid criticism of my stance. I do want to give all of the Lucas movies credit for a running theme that they manage to convey extremely well. It relates to Luke and why his character is special and important. I mentioned the archetypal hero's journey he follows. There's a big deviation. The hero's journey almost always ends with the hero realizing his true potential, belief in himself, or overcoming some fear and being brave. Luke goes through all of that but that isn't how he ultimately wins. He defeats Vader and could likely defeat the Emperor if he really wanted to (who knows, doesn't matter). Instead he puts down his weapon. Luke's ultimate victory comes from mercy. He has faith. Not even in a religious sense just a basic faith in the goodness of man. His faith is rewarded as Vader kills the Emperor without Luke having lost his humanity and restoring Vader's humanity in the process. This is the inverse of the prequels where Anakin loses his humanity due to his paranoia and mistrust of his friends and loved ones. I don't think Disney even realized how hard they were shitting on Luke in TLJ. It's the worst thing they could have possibly done.
>>217482114>When you're telling a story that has a predetermined outcome that the audience already knows about, and that outcome is basically the maximally bad end, you've got to diverge pretty far from normal narrative conventions to tell that story. No you dont, Titanic as an example. Theres nothing unconventional about its narrative, its plain and simple. You're just lying to yourself to make excuses for why George made 3 god awful films in succession.
>>217480690I'm ecstatic the millisecond it's piratable.
>>217482522This was always the case btw.>Let GO Luke!>after he had just been saved by a man he decided to trust even if he maybe shouldn't have (Han)The only way he beats the Emperor is by ultimately stepping back and trusting everyone else to do the right thing. They do. They do because Luke saw a spark inside all of them that they didn't even know was there and being around Luke brought out the best in them. It's so beautiful to me.
>>217482089>kung fu in spaceAre you referring to the carradine kung fu tv show? i swear this show influenced like all the top movie guy of the later 20th c but i never see a single mention of it online like it just never got revisited by the next generation, it's effective lost media even though you can probably just watch it
>>217482650>kung fu tv showI'm 32 and the only reason I know this show exists was from watching Kill Bill around my dad and him telling me about it as well as the (somewhat prominent) mention of it in the movie Office Space.
>>217482650well it was just the first that came to mind given it had an eastern philosophy in a western setting which suited it best, but theres many other examples of the simple formula serial tv show that goes on for years and seemingly 'nothing' happens, even series like the X-files and their monster of the week, or all the self contained star trek episodes of old, people like that sort of think i feel but all we get is these long season long arc story shows these days and im really pretty fuckin tired of them.
>>217482084it reminds me of the microsoft people trying to name their console, it is coming from accounting people not trippy creatives. it has to be so generic that it can't strike a single person as weird or kooky. hence 'x box' 'x box x' 'star wars star fighter'
>>217482114Crisis Core did it right
>>217481893season one was good for exactly three episodes then it didn't know what to do with itself anymoresomehow disney managed to milk another two and a half seasons out of it
>>217482522even in the first movie there was always an implication that the fall of the republic and the clone wars weren't that long ago, since obi wan, anakin, and bail all were involved in it, as per leia's message and obi wan being friends with anakini should also not that alec guiness was only around 60 when filming anh, he just looked older due to bong genes
We'll always have the first two seasons. Those struck a spark; they were exciting. They weren't about saving the galaxy, they were about seeing new parts of it, and described a very predictable but very enjoyable story arc: Yeed goes off to become Yoda Mk. II and Mando eventually sits on the throne with the darksaber and bears the crown of Mandalore upon a troubled brow. It was going to be cool. And the Gian Carrino was murdered by space trannies and the Swede who wrote the original awesome soundtrack bailed and corporate (prolly KK) said oh noes! you can't get rid of the cute baby and the robot! and they went on autopilot and started cannibalizing scripts from the cancelled Rangers show and Mando turned out to be a ultralib faggot lover with a trannie brother and Apollo Creed died and... fuck. They had lightning in a bottle and of course they fucking dropped it and let it smash all over the place. Mother fuckers.
>>217483011Disney’s algorithm says when an actor dies attached to their series, it adds revenue to the product so Disney always makes sure to kill a few of their actors who get involved in their projects. Carrie Fischer, Ray Stevenson, Apollo Creed, etc. It’s strictly business.
>>217483107wait, because that persons really old contract said they get like '2% of "star wars" derived profits'?
>>217482089you are fucking retarded. the absolute best aspect of mandalorian was lucking into the "lone wolf and cub" formula, which they full well they know they incinerated in the finale of season 2.
>>217483130nah. you're a weeb fag.
>>217483130This. My favorite part was where The Lone Wolf found his Cub and they became the duo: The Lone Wolf and Cub.
>>217482012a bit like how Moon Zero Two (1969) was marketed as the first 'space western'. someone was always going to combine those two genres.>The prequels proved that the politics, plotting, and philosophy were what he was really into and I respect that. i agree with you about the simplicity ('Grey Jedi' is a stupid idea, for instance) but i feel like you could have a simple story structure and throw in one or two twists. in the first one, they rescue the princess, but then she can handle herself with a blaster.also, this might be relevant to your interests:https://friesian.com/starwars.htmresponse to critics of The Phantom Menace, posted online in 1999.
