I don't play much vidya, but New Vegas I've played and it's great, has a well crafted world and characters. Reading what people had to say about the show, positive or negative, it sounds like the Star Wars sequels. You take the world people love and use it as more of a prop to push your own shitty story, so it feels more like you're going through a theme park of the franchise rather than experiencing a real well thought out world. Seems like New Vegas and its factions still exist, but more as a prop and fanservice than actually contributing much to the story or serving any real purpose, and this works for most normie tier consumers, but I'm not a big fan of this type of storytelling.
Did I get the wrong impression of the show, is it actually worth a watch?

eh
>>
It's ok.
If you want a kinorific experience, download a shit ton of NV mods and go bananas
>>

It’s dumb fun. Not really any deeper than that. The factions are certainly there as fan service and the underlying message seems to be “people will always devolve to kill each other so they have to be controlled”. It’s pacing is all over the place and the pre-war parts aren’t integrated particularly well but this is always the problem with shows with different writers/directors every episode. If you like nu-Fallout then I doubt you’ll hate it. I’m one of those miserable cunts who thinks the first Fallout is the only great one so I’m not that invested.
>>
>>217485405
Im happy Caesar was already dead so they couldn't assassinate his character like they did with House.
Legion chads cant stop winning!
>>
>>217485484
I've never played bethesda fallout because the stories and factions sound boring, so if this show is of the same vein I'll skip it.
>>
>>217485514
I saw a clip where the main girl talks shit to some legion members and was put off by it, looked like reddit millenial humor where nothing can ever be taken seriously, no clue why they would let her talk like that without raping and butchering her.
>>
>>217485405
It's way better than the Starwars sequels lol. It's pretty damn close to the original trilogy in quality. Fallout show is like they decided to ditch a lot of conceits of the franchise to actually tell a good story instead. The sequel trilogy of Starwars did the opposite, leaning so hard into the conceits of Starwars that they told the lamest story ever.
>>
>>217485515
You’d hate the show then, yeah.
>>
>>217485542
> It's pretty damn close to the original trilogy in quality
How do you even defend that statement? You mean in visual production?
>>
>>217485484
NV had a lot less “dumb fun” than the far, far shittier Fallout games Bethesda made.
>>
>>217485562
You seem very resistant to the notion, I'm really not sure why. I'm really enjoying the show and I rewatch the original Starwars movies fairly frequently.
>>
>>217485542
I meant in the sense that the original trilogy was about the story and the characters, while the sequels felt like they just wanted to use all the familiar imagery of star wars to make a shitton of money without really having much of a thought out story. That's the vibe I get of the show, all the original factions are dead or out of the way but their imagery is used as fanservice
>>
>>217485596
Oh, well like I said it's the opposite. They're telling a good story with interesting characters. The setting itself might suffer a bit from it instead.
>>
>>217485533
>without raping and butchering her.
They wouldnt rape her because she's a town bicycle so they crucified her instead. She got away and they didnt put nails through her hands or feet, like the REAL Legion would have, so it was underwhelming.
>>
>>217485568
I’m not entirely sure I agree but the writing was better

>>217485571
I just wanted to know how you compare a role playing game with multiple routes/endings with a Tv show. What do you mean by quality? If you’re enjoying the show I’m happy for you.

>Creators create story/game/movie/band etc that creates something new and unique.
>This attracts initial fanatics (fans) of that thing. They craft a scene around the thing and build it as a community, usually a lot of back and forward interaction between the creators of the initial thing and the scene.
>fanatics want validation for their tastes, so they start sharing their tastes to friends, normies, etc, they start supporting any sort of mainstream presence and approval thing gets. This creates tourists (old lingo "Mops" members of the public) who like the thing, but are not fanatics but will buy and casually enjoy thing
>This attracts suits who see thing can be far more marketable, spread to masses etc if you rework it with the elements that work just for tourists and jettison everything else.
>Suits offer lots of money, initial creators sell out. Product is reworked for mass audiences.
>Initial Fanatics try to defend with late stage gatekeeping, get shit on by all the tourists and the now owners/creators. Gets turned into mass market product, becomes a trend commodity, produces a lot of money gets over commercialized and dies.
This is the cycle that most Fandoms/Scenes go through. I USED to be "don't gatekeep, its cool people want to enjoy the same thing as us" but after I saw this happen to several music scenes through the late 2000s/2010s I became full "you must gatekeep and be mean". There is a reason Crusty hippies still exist as a non-commodified subculture. Ugly as sin fashion, offensive cultural appropriation and hostile music (dark psy, forest psy), this means it stays fanatics only. Fandoms and scenes need to find the balance of being profitable enough to support the creators and scene, but not profitable enough that it drags in the plague of tourists and their suit handlers.

>Good story
>Literally the same story as Fallout 3 and 4 again.
Lmao.
>>
>>217485710
Okay, that's about what I figured, the reddit defence I've read of the show mostly boils down to the elements of New Vegas still existing as callbacks/props and that should be enough for the original fans to like it, even tho the elements don't serve any of the same roles or contribute to much going on in the story.
>>
>>217485710
Based effort posting poster

It happens a lot with game franchises when the original creators move onto other things. I don’t care how cunty is sounds: there’s absolutely a soul to creative art.
>>
I’m surprised there’s so little shitposting about LIL RONNIE as the supermutant. I was looking forward to this
>>

Its all there for memberberrys but retroactively killing off people favorite factions, ruining favorite characters etc etc. They could have just set the show in some untouched part of the USA and did their own thing but they had to build the show up over the bones of all the things people like & its frustrating. Its like how every prequel has to demean and destroy legacy characters before they can fully shoehorn in their fanfic characters, imagine that but with it being the very first video adaptation.

They have the look down, I find the show interesting enough to keep watching, I just hate seeing the shit I like get ruined. The show is now official canon and I bet that any new game made is going to be taking place on the west coast, again, with the remnants of all the same factions, again, instead of them comeing up with something new or interesting. Im sick of the faggothood of steal & the enclave being in every single game. Make someone new and dont make them retarded clones of previous factions.
>>
>>217485699
Well it's not a video game, so there's a concrete story to tell, and all the effort can be put in the one way the story goes. I'm not sure how I would compare the two since they're for different experiences. The quality of the writing, acting, and props, the direction, the quality, it's all very top notch. It's not cheap in any way.
>>
>>217485895
It's a shame that it's canon, means a new vegas sequel would be nothing like the original.
>>
>>217485729
I liked Fallout 3's story, and I was engaged with Fallout 4. That's all a video game needs to be, keep you immersed and playing. I couldn't be bothered to finish New Vegas, I really didn't enjoy it nearly as much. As a game it was very off putting how limiting it was by comparison. Fallout 3 and 4 have proper sandboxes, and New Vegas had invisible walls everywhere and a very uninteresting story about a poker chip that would allow one to seize control of a hydro electric dam. I couldn't get into it.
>>
>>217486096
thank god
>>
>>217486131
Now that's a truly midwit take
>>
>>217486161
Go fuck yourself faggot. I don't like "people" who speak in buzzwords and cannot enjoy anything. You miserable lot deserve to miss out on good things.
>>
>>217486181
You said you don't enjoy new vegas, retard. Sounds more like you can't enjoy anything with more complexity than "go find family member".
>>
>>217486131
>New Vegas had invisible walls everywhere
The edge of the map? Fo3 & 4 had those too. Fo3 was alright and I liked Fo4 when it first came out but I hate it now. The writing in it is just terrible and nonsensical. I have like 500 hours in Fo4 so it was good enough that I didnt notice it until after that but man, once you notice it really ruins the game.
>>
>>217486262
He's talking about shit like the Quarry Junction that kinda forced you to take the long way around to get to The Strip. I mean, yeah, you COULD run north from Goodsprings as soon as the game starts, but you'll get ripped apart by Cazadores that are at a much higher level than you. Most players just follow the path they're corraled onto, which is south, then west, then north, as every NPC instructs you to do.
Fallout 3 and 4, however, let you go about things pretty much however you want - you get a waypoint on your compass, but you're free to reach that waypoint from whatever direction you choose.
