Why did it flop?
>>
Because she was so sexy everyone came just from watching the trailer so they didn't have to see the movie

It flopped. Hard.
>>
It didn’t flop but it did underperform, it’s going to make almost 1B less than TWOW. 4 will make even less

Avatar 1: $2.9 billion
Avatar 2: $2.3 billion
Avatar 3: $1.3 billion so far, still in theaters until March.

It's a huge decline but calling 20th highest grossing film of all time a flop is tarded

World wasn't ready for Big Jim's vision
>>
The first Avatar was a self-contained story you could follow without watching anything else prior. There was also nothing else like it when it released in 2009. The reason The Way of Water did so well is because of 13 years of anticipation and hype, but most viewers hadn't seen the first film in over a decade and it was no longer a self-contained story. It centered on these kids who have their character arcs play out over several films.

WHY ARE THEY SO EVIL

IT WAS LITERALLY SET IN THE SAME PLACES AS AVATAR 1 AND 2 DOING THE SAME SHIT. SAME BOAT. SAME WARSHIPS. SAME ANIMALS. THIS MOVIE WAS A FUCKING JOKE.

>IT WAS LITERALLY SET IN THE SAME PLACES AS AVATAR 1 AND 2
I mean, the planet is called Avatar, what did you expect
>>
>>217494384
pandora is an entire planet. i expect different biomes like how earth has deserts, jungles, mountains, oceans, tundras, grasslands. also this isn't earth so he could have made up fucking anything and isn't limited to the biomes that exist on earth.
>>
>>217494451
Look, no one has ever called Cameron a visionary. People usually call him a hack. And that's what he is. A hack.
>>
I still don't understand how Avatar from 2009 has better CGI than the sequels from the 2020s. The sequels look like fucking videogames.
>>
>>217494372
Variety is reporting the budget as $350 million plus another $150 million for promotion. It's set to make three times the production cost.
>>
>>217492683
The movie cost 500 million (making + marketing) and will end up making 500 million in profits only counting theaters (it’s already made a profit of 300 million here). It will make at least another 100 million by physical and streaming sales. While that is happening Disney is expanding and building new avatar parks

it was way of water part 2, instead of a new movie with new stuff

I think it needs to clearly 1.5 billy to recoup. It's close to 500 on production, and distributors are going to take half of ever dollar earned. You're looking at 750 million just to recoup production/advertising. The film realistically needs to double that for us to ever see another one.

Pandora is a moon, not a planet.

It did introduce a new tribe and environment but it somehow didn't get enough screentime in 3 1/4 hours

audiences could sense the low cultural impact potential and avoided it
the crazy navy girl chief was hot though ngl
>>
people arent interested in watching cgi creatures talk and fight. avatar was interesting cause it was real dudes fighting cgi cat things with a human villain.
>>
>>217493820
That arc is done it’s a new story, RDA will continue to rape the planet in some form but it’ll most likely be background to what’s happening in the polar icecap regions
>>
>>217494566
might need new eyes, that'd explain it
>>
>>217494340
It's the same places but different things are happening, there's a whole chase sequence in bridgehead, the tulkun and squid guys are biting pinkskin heads off and the fire tribe are doing their fire tribe shit. In that way it's totally different from Avatar 2. Avatar 3 is like when you backtrack to that town you last visited 40 hours ago in a JRPG and a bunch of stuff happened in your absence.
>>
>>217494566
I don't agree at all. The first act of Avatar is my favorite part. I kinda lose interest on rewatches when Jake becomes a part of the tribe and the whole movie devolves into a cgi fest. Except for the part where he gets his Ikran, that shit is great.

we got tree burners and whale poachers already. I'm hoping we can introduce some mineral fracking. (its also an easy way for Cameron to introduce the earth benders)

>Variety is reporting the budget as $350 million plus another $150 million for promotion. It's set to make three times the production cost.
It's definitely making money but you have to account for the theater cut and miscellaneous distributions costs as well. Movie budgeting and expenses are so opaque it's hard to know anything for sure.
>>
>>217493824
not really
>>
People just don't have as much money to spend on movies compared to previous decades
