>Hanns Heinz Ewers’ grim science-fiction novel Alraune has already been filmed twice when this version was assembled in 1928. i was curious because i know what an overly arthouse film is, but this seemed to me like a fairly regular noir, though it had some bizarre twists and it had this amazing score and some dissolves that made it feel like a hitchcock movie

i guess i never really grasped on what rules a movie out of being arthouse, is it anything that wouldn't be considered mainstream? does it just refer to the budget/amount of theaters or is it also a stylistic choice
