>>217500668
>>217500613This general can’t stand it when the non-regulars recommend good movies.
>>217481781I'd say that's rather the point. You need to look at the film from the religious perspective of the author who himself was a devout Catholic and from the perspective of the average person from 1973 when America was a lot more Christian in general. A 12 year old girl cussing and being vulgar masturbating with a cross that breaks her hymen after she's been possessed by the devil who isn't actually the devil, and a statue of the Virgin Mary inside a sacred sanctuary of God being desecrated. It's pure blasphemy, an afront, because demons hate Christ and God and all of God's children. It's an edgy film and that scene is indeed tasteless, but it fits within that religious subtext and the kind of story it's trying to tell. It's not gratuitous at all. Ultimately at it's core it's a simple story about faith, of good vs evil, but executed extremely well in such a way that even non religious people like myself can relate to it. So in a weird way there's a kind of artistic flair to the tastelessness that keeps those scenes from coming off as merely cheap shock value. I will always maintain it's the superior film over The Sting.

>>217501618Don’t get baited with Bone Temple.
>>217501603yeah I agree. I wasn’t expecting so much out of only 87mins. had to even rewatch the last scene to notice Tom had a bandage on his neck
>>217501696What? What was interpretation of the ending?Mine was the girl was still trapped cause tom survived.
>>217501618What did you think of that scene in the cotton field when delta slim sang the blues?
going to hang with friends then see Return to Silent Hill. will let you know the DISTURBING TRUTH that the critics don't want you to know later.
>>217501696**What was your interpretation of the ending?**The cycle starts again right?
>>217501714my understanding was she slept too long after coitus, “reset” again, tried to killed him and went to escape before collapsing (circling back to her dreams of drowning) which I’m sure she’s done many times before. Cut to Tom trying the hospital/doctor charade with a bandage on his neck and starting from scratch all over again. All I didn’t really get was why she collapsed during the escape, but I guess you could chalk that up to her muscles being atrophied from being so sedentary.
>>217501821I’ll add, I wasn’t sure right away if they were trying to go for the “it was all a dream lmao” trope hence why I rewound it and noticed the bandage on his neck
>>217501825Right, so she collapsed or whatever and cycle started again.
>>217501844yep yep. idk if that’s a way amnesia can actually manifest but man that would fucking blow. 50 First Dates made it look way easier lmao
>>217501843I don’t even know what bandage you’re talking about but I do remember she drowns after escaping and I am sure Tom saved her and cycle started again and movie ends.
>>217501869Overall a great movie, thanks to whoever recommended it.
>>217501869the bandage would indicate if it’s in her head or not considering she stabbed him in the neck. when he’s doing the doctor bit you can see a bandage on his neck as he’s leaving. if there were no bandage it would’ve been more open-ended, that’s all I was getting at
>>217501908True. Good, this means the movie isn’t even meant for open ending discussions. I wouldn’t want her getting away.

>>217502355Probably not
>>217502355I think so. Their originals are sometimes good, their library gets updated frequently, and even though I can torrent almost everything on there I’ll put my money where my mouth is when it comes to horror, just to support the continuation of the genre. Plus the “TV” channels are super comfy for when you don’t want to actively pick something or want to fall asleep to kino
>>217502408I usually don't actively pick something and just watch the free streaming channels. Sometimes this results in watching The Silence of the Lambs 3 times in a week. But Scares by Shudder is free, there's also Screambox, MGM Horror, Horror Stories for TV shows, and a couple other decent ones.

Just finished. So fucking cool. Everyone on letterboxd is "it's Harry Potter with lesbians!' because they're goddamn retards. Structurally it's a slasher movie, it's just the slasher doesn't kill people directly. Love the 90s Jap atmosphere, and the excessive blood. Just finished. There are stone statues turning up in modern Athens, and the people who they resemble are disappearing. The only lead is a woman dressed all in black that was spotted near one of the statues, but no one saw her face. The movie is fucking called Medusa, so there's no surprise what the hell is going on, and all the action and the one interesting twist take until the last ten minutes to be revealed: men are turned to stone by Medusa's gaze, but women turn her to dust then replace her. The gimmick I guess was trying to make the Medusa myth into a modern (for the time) crime thriller. Except for the finale it's a borefest.
watched a tv movie "dark night of the scarecrow" earlieractually pretty great, some good transitions and kills and the final kill and ending scene are top kino

I FUCKING LOVED Return To Silent Hill. This is a perfect repeat of SH 2006. Everyone is going to hate this film, critics, Silent Hill fans, even most horror fans. But in 20 years time this is going to be reevaluated as brutally directorial mogging the other pieces of shit we're fed in 2026. Gans is like a modern day Fulci and this film was like a voight kampff test for if you have a soul. He will spin you around, throw you up and down, drown you, and give you an epileptic fit.I liked it so much that when I got out of theater, I felt the light touch of misty water droplets all around me. I saw them float around the lamp post as if I were inside of a snow globe. As I drove home on an empty rainy street I felt the sudden urge to speed, to see the lights go by me faster, as if I couldn't be touched, as if it would be ok to die. Also, yes some of the CGI is truly terrible (just like the first one).
>>217502078was kind of burnt out as i had been watching one each night. it was slow imo and the plot was kind of meh. was more interested in staring at the girls cleavage throughout :/. how they ate the victims reminded me of the scene from Interview with the Vampire
Just finished. Hot damn I love Magic Cop. Clearly an attempt to start another franchise for the star of Mr. Vampire, and it didn't work. How about this, I think Magic Cop is better than Mr. Vampire. It's hilarious and the action scenes are lightning fast. Some evil sorceress is using reanimated corpses to smuggle drugs! LMAO, why?! Magic Cop is a taoism specialist who got kicked off the force and is working on the boonies who they call back to the city to solve the case. Love that these HK flicks are getting restorations like this one got from 88 Films, they used to be seen as disposable and they're so high quality.

>>217513031Tenebre is incredibly easy to figure out, because all the potential killers are - well - killed off.
>>217513082Return of the Living Dead 3
>>217513031Nah. They highlight it in the movie, most detective readers/watchers are in it for the lurid and the proceduralA lot of the genre since Agatha Christie has people pissed the fuck off if you're not able to guess the killer using the clues presented, versus the Sherlock Holmes era where you could pull the never before seen murderer out of your ass by magic by the end.

>>217520875I hate them so much
>>217520875I wonder if Sinners is going to win any oscars though.
>>217520882No, but it's a fun horror movie as well. The plot of both is essentially the same as Evil Dead, people get possessed by demons, turn into monstrous humans and start killing/infecting others, first one is set in a movie theater, second in a whole apartment building. From what I recall Demons 2 uses the actual apartments, lobby, garage, gym, corridors
>>217520875No wonder, considering Sinners is exactly unironically the type of horror movie for people who don't like horror movies aka Oscar criticsThat The Substance was allowed to go as far as best movie out of 2 despite having a lot of cheesy/gory horror sequences in it was the actual surprise, though of course they would never let it win
>>217520882Demons 1 is very much worth your time too, and while it’s not required, I like it better in some ways, and you’ll get more of out 2 if you watch it first, because there’s a sort of meta connection to the first one, where they’re watching the fictional in-universe sequel to the first one on TV, and it ends up tying directly into the plot. It’s kind of cool. I really like those movies.
>>217521112I prefer the setting of Demons 2 but that's simply because Gremlins 2 made love movies in high rises where multiple parts of the building are actually exploredmovie theater is a kino setting for a horror movie though

Just finished. Lol, no. This is going to flop so hard. Having almost no familiarity with the game, this comes across like another Hellraiser sequel. There are some great visuals like the spider girl or the bed monster on the ceiling but I assume they're from game. The characters act like aliens and there's no narrative flow; it simply doesn't work as a stand alone movie. The MC just wanders around bumping into monsters with flashbacks peppered in telegraphing that this is all some metaphor for something that already happened. I guess it's just a severely abbreviated version of the game for people who don't have time to play it, but it's not an interesting story and all the strongest images are stuff you'd be aware of already from its place In (I hate to use this word) the horror zeitgeist, so there's really no point in it existing. The lead looks like he got cast just because he looks like he's CG himself. A big disappointment, I can see why this got pushed back for so long.

Just put on Crazy Old Lady
>>217522934I loved it but I am the extremely niche audience of someone who enjoys Silent Hill artistically but isn't autistic about the games.
>>217523293yep. I noticed she looked familiar after rewatching Rise
>>217523337no. i think hes talking about the non binary girl

>>217523865I think the tits are chopped off but you'd just assume they're a lesbian like most people did watching evil dead

Just finished Crazy Old Lady. Decent horror movie. I recommend it, sure.
>>217524615>negrono thanks
>>217524659You don't actually mean that.
>>217524784that the bacon and legs girl?
Just finished. My first Dustin Ferguson movie and he's as bad as I'd heard, lol. Doesn't even feel finished. It's only 40 minutes! Girl goes undercover in a woman's prison to find her missing sister, the prison doctor films girls having sex and sells the footage, and is looking to make a snuff movie. A ton of nudity but everyone's ugly, lol. Almost no blood. One of a bunch of "movies" he did with Alana Evans it looks like. Brinke Stevens is a guard and looks about 80.
>>217523653No. Horror's woke. Always has been.
Just put on Martyrs
what are some films like house(1977)
>>217525926That's the only one, bro, that's why it's so infamous.
>>217525753original or remake?
>>217525964damn.guess ill watch house againa
>>217525980It's not exactly similar but I recommend Forbidden Zone, it's also very wacky.
>>217526027>lots of titsthanks for the recommend will watch
>>217525969Remake on tubi..
>>217526129OH NO, lmaoMaybe the worst remake of all time, lol
>>217526144I have seen most of the original when I was younger and it was hard hitting. This remake, I am like only 30 minutes in and it is a lot tamer. Gonna be very hard to top the original.
I find females speaking very annoying.
>>217526158finish the original anon! fucking love that movie. on my end I’m watching Hagazussa after popping some hydrocodone and this shit kicks ass lmao
>>217526240I just replaced the remake with the original at the same spot. Not sure why those girls stayed in the house so long. > HagazussaInteresting
>>217526332>Just replaced the remake with the original at the same spot.Very smart move
>>217526240The original is better, why make such a tame remake. And why stay in the house so long?
>>217526240> HagazussaPretty polarizing views about this movie online. I will add it to watch list
>>217526442I watched it a few days ago and wasn't into it. Maybe I should've popped a few opiates, lol
>>217526442I’d say the comparisons to VVITCH are warranted, but the location (Alps) is way more comfy and it felt like there was a bit more to chew on while still maintaining that slow-burn feel. Great atmosphere, 8/10 if you’re into moody slow burns. Perfect for late at night a little buzzed like I am now.
>>217526474Hm ok >>217526462Ig
Super excited for this creature feature out of Thailand. It got a theatrical release in Thailand yesterday (the 22nd) and looks like Germany and LATAM also signed up for theatrical releases soon. Guessing it’ll be a while before it hits streaming and we get rips of it unfortunately.https://youtu.be/JBYPPNPhuVg
>>217525926Watch his other great horror, Cute Devil
>>217526633Doesn't come close
Just finished. Cozy little euro folktale. Watched because it's one of the few letterboxd top horrors I hadn't seen yet. Guy stops into a family home when he loses his horse just when their elderly father has turned into a vampire. Gets bloody when it needs to but is just a straightforward telling of a classic story with some very effective puppet work. Co-stars the sexy maid from The Lobster.
>>217526824I wish puppets happened more. Not just big ones, just puppets in general are comfy af
>>217522439kek
>>217526773hmmm well the other one I'd recommend is Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, though it's a bit different in tone, it is a very beautiful film.
>>217526633will also watch :)
>>217526206No one will save you
>>217514409Don't listen to the retards, this film is actually pretty kino.
>>217523028Yes, some of us aren't faggots.
Just finished. Another Dustin Ferguson. Alright, this guy's movies are kind of addictive, lol. A death scene is somebody getting grabbed by someone hiding behind a corner and then they're lying on the ground, no blood even. A possession is somebody groaning and then their eyes get turned red digitally. There's so little effort that it's thrilling. This is a shameless remake of House by the Cemetery except without anything happening. It's 40 minutes. This guy has about 100 directing credits and if they're all like this I'm going for it.
watchin Pet Sematary 2 rnClancy Brown is so great in this
>>217501748switching between a live actor and a mocap actor to make the other silent hill feel uncanny was clever
