Not only did they remove old jokes, they sometimes flat out remove scenes from the movies they buy the rights to for their vod riffs. That has always bugged me, especially when its hypocritical, doing one vod with lots of nudity, then editing it out of the next one, or its just lazy where they've removed whole scenes because they couldn't think of any funny jokes for them.

Yeah, the writing on rifftrax got really bad there for a while, to the point that I finally stopped getting everything they put out. No idea if its gotten any better. The writing staff was Mike and a couple of young guys, all the old cast members just showed up to do their lines. They would break the movies up into 30 minute chunks with each writer taking one chunk to help speed up the process. There are some riffs where its very obvious when they switch to a new writer and the tone shifts completely.
