https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/300_(film)
>300 is a 2006 historical action film directed by Zack Snyder, based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller, which dramatically retells the ancient Battle of Thermopylae
>>
>>217758802
It's technically capeshit, it's almost scene by scene taken from the comic it is based on. Also it's in-universe propaganda told from the Spartans PoV of course they will not mention the thousand other allies they had in that battle.
>>
>>217758802
It's based on the novel. What did you expect? People always get filtered by this.

It was never depicted as a factual account of what happened either in the comic or the movie. It's quite literally presented as a hyperbolic hero's tale.

The heckin epic warrior society Sparta never existed. There probably was a city state called Sparta which had wars with Athens etc, but basically everything you believe about Spartan society, that they were this ultra-disciplined martial society where everyone trained to be a warrior all their life etc, is entirely made up. Its a myth like Atlantis. Even at the time when those myths were written, people were skeptical because there were barely any ruins indicating a proper city state at the place where Sparta supposedly was located.
>>
>>217759180
you dumb fuck, no-one thought it was a literal docodrama of what happened it was a hyped up dramatization on steroids and everyone knew it what the fuck are you even trying to say you stupid cunt?

nothing like it exist but there are a lot of pretenders that followed after, in a completely different vein but an awesome hopeless battle that is dramatized is Ironclad (2011) with none other then James Purefoy as a Templar Knight defending a small castle against siege by King John, yes that King John, its not stylized at all but great fun all the same. A single knight and some 1/2 assed tower guards against an army.

Why don't brainlets get that what they're watching is the story Dilios tells? The movie gives this scene a very prominent moment.
>>
i agree with the thread OP. this is like saying "why wasn't From Hell historically accurate? Victorian England was real!"

that said, Braveheart will always take the cake. there's embellishment or minor inaccuracies, then there's outright contradiction.

how many more do you want? this is my thing, nothing is like 300 but overly dramatized battles of a small group against great odds? hell how many do you want? lets see Ironclad already did that, ther is alos the 2nd one not nearl a good but not awful. King Arthur with Clive Owen, Centurion with Fassbender, The Eagle with Tatum, as I said hell of a lot of these came out, the second 300, rise of an empire would qualify as well, not even getting into the old stuff but that more British history aka Zulu or ww2 stuff aka dirty dozen. Would you like to know more?
>>
>>217759605
Uh, sure!
I’m already looking at some trailers for ironclad

nope, if you do go ahead I'm a sucker for small ragtag bunch of "heros" trying to fight a horde, i've seen all of kurosawa and similar stuff like yojimbo and zatoichi, wolf and cub but that more in the lone gunman/lone swords man type genre not the same thing
>>
>>217758802
One thing is sure, if they made the movie today, Leonidas and most of the Spartans would be minorities, while the Persians would be white guys
>>
>>217759503
rough day, anon?

anyway, if we're being a bit more loose with "history", i group picrel in with Braveheart. outright contradictions and misunderstandings of real-world history, American actors with weird Transatlantic accents, it even "borrows" from other contemporary fiction (they didn't realise Nasir in Robin of Sherwood was an original character).
>>
>>217759667
ok, well take my recs or don't in short you will never find anything like 300 in style, it stands alone, in story telling sure there are a bunch as 300 says the story of
>the few who stood against many
>>
>>217759697

>>217758802
The worst part about this movie is that it dominated popular culture enough to warp modern perception of Spartans. The average person does not understand it is hyperbole, they think it's overall true (outside the fantastical shit) just like other inaccurate movies like Braveheart.
>>
>>217759794
nothing about that is bad, god you /his. fags are the worst, crazy thing is legends of heroic last stands are part of history in legends and popular stories and yet we still get faggots like you
>>
>>217759834
Heroic last stands are one thing, drastically depicting a culture completely inaccurate is another.

I don't give a fuck if they played up Leonidas' death, the worst crime of the movie was acting like Spartans were some retarded "pro freedom" culture which is the exact opposite of who they were.
>>
>>217758853
Did ancient Greece look like Mordor in the comic book too?

that's literally not true. ask the average person what they know about spartans they'll quote 300 verbatim because it's the only relevant piece of media about them.
>>
This thing. OMG it's so crazy. Never mind it's based on a theory that was discredited by the time the thing was made. They just get so much culturally wrong.

Based Holly Hunter agrees.
>"It was interesting to be in a movie that had so much testosterone, all these incredibly powerful guys," Hunter said.

>"And I thought that, you know, as a senator, she brought her female-ness to the job in how she listened in her curiosity, in her ability to evaluate," Hunter said of her character. "[It] felt very female to me."

>Hunter had only high praise for 32-year-old Cavill, with whom she spent the most time filming.

>"Henry is utterly adorable ... just a lovely guy," she said. "Utterly lovely."

The movie will be absolute misery porn about some poor privileged Chink who was forced to give up their 10 properties and 75 slaves to work a normal job which is so beneath them that they kill themselves. Critics say it's the most important movie you will ever watch.

It actually seems like they almost always went head to head against it reading the accounts of the battles. If you try to just "go around it" generally the greeks will usually have time to just retreat and decline battle. The two lines of heavy infantry do seem to meet head on even if terrain and/or manipular flexibility fucks up the phalanxes as it goes on, but I'm yet to actually figure out how the Romans close that distance in the first place. I think I understand how the Romans win from when they get in sword distance but have no clue how you get past six comically long spears.
