The way of the wind may be Malicks last film>We didn't make such a picturesque, colorful Jesus film, which is what so many of them are, but instead this is directed by a real maestro. And presumably this is his Swan Song, this is his last film, he wanted to direct this film with Disney in the 90s, but Disney wouldn't give him the final cut rights. So then he did this, this script. And now, compared to the fact that the film was shot for three months and in seven countries, with a very small crew and very little money, he tried to tell this story at the twilight of his life. And so it's not like the church's, and it's not like anyone else's Jesus. It might come out in May, maybe in the fall, maybe, let's hope; I think that’s what I'm authorized to say. But you have to expect a long film, and if it's my career as a film actor, I think it's pretty much over with this role.https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2026/2/1/the-way-of-the-wind-actor-claims-its-coming-out-this-year

>makes Jesus biopic>spends seven years cutting Jesus out of movie
A Hidden Life was piss-thin in substance. Just Andrei Rublev-litest on the camera work. Only Rogowski's "prison reverie" was very artfully done yet heartfelt. Malick is a workshop guy, not "real maestro".
>>217770140The fact is American cinema is so thin on real artistic filmmakers Americans have no choice but to cling to mediocrities like Malick and overpraise them to heavens.
Days of Heaven is one of my favorite movies so I hope this is good, Pasolinis gospel according to Matthew might be hard to top though.
>>217770842days of heaven was released 50 years agoMalick has been doing feature length perfume commercials for the last 10+ years
>>217771210desu I have only seen that, Badlands and Thin Red Line and I thought TRL was the weakest of the three I watched.
>>217771268>malick "fan">seen only 3 films
>>217771775Never said I was a fan, Days of Heaven is just one of my favorite movies.
>>217768509>Malick’s film is meant to be his retelling of the life of Jesus Christ. It stars Géza Röhrig as Jesus, Mark Rylance as multiple incarnations of Satan, and Matthias Schoenaerts as Saint Peter—who may, according to some involved, actually be the film’s co-lead.>Géza Röhrig was born in Budapest, Hungary. His mother left the family after he was born, and his father died when he was four, so Röhrig spent his childhood in foster care.[2] From the age of 12 he was raised by a Jewish family.>At university he studied Hungarian and Polish, and after a visit to Auschwitz during a study tour in Poland, he decided to become an Orthodox Jew in Brooklyn, United States.>Since 2000, he has lived in the Bronx borough of New York City,[7] where he received a degree from the Jewish Theological Seminary and has been a kindergarten teacher at Hannah Senesh Community Day School in Brooklyn.
>>217768509>Malick, now 82, reportedly shot over 3,000 hours of footage. “The Way of the Wind” is rumored to include some of the filmmaker’s most unorthodox creative choices yet, including scenes of Jesus smoking cannabis and a lengthy (28 minutes!) “philosophical monologue” from Rylance’s Satan. Jesus performs no miracles in the film.
>>217768509>gibson, scorsese and malick all releases jesus films in the same yearWho's gonna win?
>>217768509>mark rylance as satanNot watching. Atrocious actor.
>>217772589Well Scorsese is a self-hating catholic and Malick thinks all religion is just floating through space smoking weed and holding hands dood. Gibson is kinda schmaltzy with his movies but at least he actually cares about the christian side of it.
>>217772615>Gibson is kinda schmaltzy with his movies but at least he actually cares about the christian side of it.Is schmaltzy really the right word to describe it? The gruesomeness of The Passion seems to preclude such a description.
>>217772626Maria running up to Jesus when he falls and intercutting scenes from his childhood was the definition of schmaltzy. I don't think it was bad, but eh.
