honestly, the finale proved what people knew since season 1 raped the NCR lore - they fucked over the games' canon for memberberry points, just to end up ignoring the games' sequel hooks and writing a sloppy main story revolving around donut steel OCs that will inevitably be unsatisfying viewed only within the TV show, and forever hobble the games if they ever make a sequel to the 2015 east coast entry or 2010 west coast entry.
It's a shame because if none of the TV show took place in California or Nevada, it could have left the canon of the games just about unmolested, with enough wiggle room to get recognizable names like NCR, House, Brotherhood of Steel, Vault-Tec, Enclave involved.

As a TV show, it's a baffling season finale.

her original plan in season 1 and most of season 2 seemed to be just trusting in Vault-Tec to save (freeze) her whole family. The retcons in the show are that the nuclear war was an inside job, and cryogenics was advanced and a normal technology pre-war. But other than that her plan made sense (before we saw it being disrupted by Cooper pre-war in this season).
The only issue is why would Vault-Tec put their executive storage facility far away from their headquarters, under the control of a rival company (RobCo), and why would they put their executives and family in storage *indefinitely*, without any plan to wake them? Vault 111 and Vault 31/32/33 kind of make sense in that there is a plan to awaken the frozen people, but apparently the Vegas vault-tec facility was to indefinitely freeze people with no plan to reawaken them?

The second problem is why would Barbara turn down the Vegas facility of indefinite cryogenic freezing (which obviously worked and was secure), but somehow go to Colorado for a backup plan which is for some reason better? The note being present in the pod means their pods were still frozen and unopened for 220 years.

The last problem with that is what reason would she have to demand being re-frozen if she was unfrozen in Colorado without finding out what happened to her husband? Pre-war people didn't know about ghouls, which are generally an accidental side effect of radiation, not something that can be planned. And we saw in the flashbacks that Cooper had their daughter when the bombs dropped, so she had to be separated from Cooper on the exact day of the war, if she and their daughter could be frozen. complete nonsense.
In S3 we should see Cooper meeting his descendants in Colorado from his unfrozen wife and daughter

If Emil is involved in the show writing, I'll bet you a fiver he ends up making Lucy & Maximus disagree and turn against each other in the end.

I haven't played the games and I genuinely have no idea what was going on this season.

I enjoyed season 1. Everything was clear and there was a goal. Lucy is a vault dweller looking for her dad. Dad turns out to be a bad guy. Ghoul is looking for his family whose wife turns out to be on the board of who dropped the bombs. Black guy is an army guy and everyone is looking for this unlimited energy capsule thing. Ok great.

Season 2 and everyone is just walking around and talking about factions and politics that I have no idea about. Black guy wants to give Lucy the unlimited power thing because she's like...good? There's some Roman looking people fighting and now they're attacking Vegas because idk. I don't know who the enclave are because no one explained it. I only knew the guy in the car was the president and part of the enclave because I watched a youtube explainer.
Oh and I have no idea who Robert House is and why Hank was creating robot people.

Being contacted by the proto-Enclave before the war is a good reason for her to give up on the Vault-Tec Vegas vault, but we did see that Cooper was with their daughter on the day of the nuclear war, so they still have to make up some reason for the daughter to be whisked away to be with the mother, but Cooper left alone to survive in the irradiated postwar which turns him into a ghoul (which they had no reason to think was possible pre-war, meaning they thought he died in 2077 or whatever a natural lifespan would have been pre-war.

If they were separated with no idea where the other side of the family wound up, there's no reason for them to think Cooper survived above ground for 200 years, even if it makes sense that Cooper could be semi-delusional in thinking they had survived the war in special vaults. It's just lazy writing plus them thinking that Fallout 4's cryogenics vault was widespread technology and not just a "fuck it, we have human guinea pigs we will never have to answer for" scenario, despite how well the technology appears to have actually worked. Without Cooper knowing specifically that they planned to be frozen (which was never common), he should only have cared about finding out what happened to them.

Mr. House is the only one that really got his backstory introduced and now he's been dumped and likely will get picked up by Lucy to keep her relevant since her story also is basically over.

If they want a future of this show they should cut Legion, NCR, and BoS. Cut the black boy and Lucy. Both are irrelevant now. Focus on the Ghoul, Colorado (FO5 lead up), Enclave, and House. If Lucy has to stay around tie her back into Enclave storyline by going after Steph or some shit.

Im conflicted on it. I like Lucy and the ghoul as characters, it was satisfying that she got some form of justice against Hank, even if he dropped expositionleading nowhere before effectively killing himself. Maximus works as a tag along character with those 2, but is painfully boring on his own... You can tell that the director is telling him to act serious and stern, because the humor and boyishness he had last season is replaced with him staring blankly off camera. He only became interesting to watch when he was teamed up with Chaddius again.

The decision to NOT canonize an ending for NV fucking sucked. It really just made things pointlessly vague; in their efforts to not tread on the toes of players experiences they've just made everything pointless. It doesn't matter if you side with the NCR, Legion, House or Yes Man because Vegas falls apart regardless.

The finale resolved like, 2 plot points and then asked 50 more questions. I fucking hate mysterybox writing so god damn much.

The fake out of "le NCR is dead... SIKE!" sucks. Where the fuck was this organized force until now? Why did the show up then and there?

The show hammers home so many times the NCR is dead and gone. The random ass scav in the black armor, a symbol of the NCR's military prowess, to show the NCR is a bygone power. The Shady Sand survivors doing fucking blood rituals to Kimball like he's a mythological figure now. Thaddeus saying the Brotherhood picked him up from the Boneyard, a completely different place from SS, showing the NCR's fall was widespread. They also inserted this line to assert it remains separate from Shady Sands. The rangers in the hills, who heard nothing for years. The fact that they saw nothing of the NCR heading east.
Then the NCR strolls in, fine and dandy. Certainly this has nothing to do with the fact that destroying the NCR was a highly unpopular decision among the fans.

it's trying to adapt the setting of FNV's story, down to hamfisting memberberry moments from the story into the adaptation, while going out of its way to ignore anything that deals with the aftermath of FNV, its characters and factions.

it's adapting FNV, but using the bethesda mould to do so, meaning every relevant aspect that isn't directly related to the one-shot story they are doing is discarded as waste, until an aspect of it is needed for an action scene, gag, or a memberberry moment.

The problem is that a show ran by actual competent people would create a narrative that would slowly build on those factions as time passed, where each season would focus on a handful of them, before moving on to the next and ultimately ending in a big conflict between all of them

Instead we got a season full of "member when?", exposition dumbs and frankly just nonsense for nonfans (as an anecdote to this, I watched season 1 with my sister and she was able to follow most of it, with the occasional question. she was unable to follow this season at all. I partly blame what I'm talking about but some of it is also the editing, where it feels like we get, at most, around 5 minutes with lucy and coop, only to cut to 5 minutes of maximus, only to cut back to 5 minutes with lucy and coop, only to cut to 5 minutes to flashback with coop, etc)

The only part of the show that feels actually fulfilling is the Cooper flashbacks because, even when it's a bit silly, it's at least intriguing enough to where I'd argue it warrants its own show
