It's loosely based off of a game. The main premise is that there was some event, called the Silent Rapture, that destroyed every single star and planet in the universe. The only humans left were the ones who lived on space stations. They find this moon that has an ocean entirely comprised of blood and they want to do research on it so they send down ex-convicts in a submarine to get samples and run tests.

It's a psychological/cosmic horror movie.
