>>217789769>I'll still check out romulus. If you ave seen the other you have already seen it done better, except the part where it apes Resurrection I guessAlso it's a YA flickOnly positive thing I can say about it is that the practical effects are done right
>>217780538>In Space...editionReminder to watch this comfy slop. Basically a shameless knock-off of Alien + The Thing + The Exorcist, but pretty enjoyable overall. Also feels a lot like Event Horizon, although this came out first
>>217789974lol I liked that flick. And I always found it very imaginative. It has nothing to do with alien and the thing thoIt's literally the exorcist in space
Just finished. Another Letterboxd Top 250 Horror movie, another non-horror movie. This is a preposterously stupid Indian psychological drama/comedy, about a girl who thinks she's possessed by the spirit of an ancient dancer who killed herself. Does nothing to justify its two and a half hour runtime, and it's a whole hour before the star of the movie even shows up. Deeply unfunny and seems to be making a case for science over superstition, but its idea of what psychology is is shit-smearingly retarded. I'll give it that it takes some fucking balls to make the climax of your psychodrama a fucking musical number. Torture.

>>217790023>It has nothing to do with alien and the thing tho>It's literally the exorcist in spaceOne can't be without the others. It's the format of Alien with the paranoia of The Thing, mixed with the religious aspect of The Exorcist.Even the character names give away the inspirations for the movie. Giles (Childs) and Paxton (Bill Paxton). It has heavy references throughout, which you would expect from a straight-to-video sci-fli flick coming out in the wake of those movies

Jason X was the first time they used the AI Concept. You have to wonder if it will be the last...
>>217780538The opening segment in this is one of my favourite moments in the F13 series. Same with the start of Freddy's Dead. Both of them have reached a point where their plots have become surreal and dreamlike.
Just finished. Another Letterboxd Top 250 horror (only got 3 left.). This one is a Serbian witch movie, but what it really is is a desperate Malick wannabe. Lots of floaty camerawork and whispery voiceover and changing character pov. A witch makes a deal with a young mother to wait until a baby comes to sixteen years of age before taking her on as an apprentice instead of outright killing her, and the movie is following that young girl as she grows up and experiences the world as a witch hiding among humans. It can be kind of self important, but I liked the message and the ending, and it has some witch lore I wasn't familiar with in it. It's for arthouse fans, not /hor/, but if you liked Hagazussa I'd say give it a shot. Oh yeah, it kind of sells itself in having Noomi Rapace but she's only in it for about fifteen minutes.

>>217781107Crystal Lake is the only one that interests me, just because the first movie implies that a bunch of weird shit happened around the camp, and there’s a lot of blank spots in the lore. Namely, what Pamela and Jason were up to in the years between his “drowning” and the first film. With TCM, it’s just going to be about the Sawyers killing, and the Cook being the only one who semi-functions in society, and Halloween is just Michael sitting motionless and expressionless in a mental institute while Loomis spergs out.

Just finished. It's really a remake of the Coppola movie, not a take on the novel, but it doesn't have an ounce of that movie's style. Besson moves the action to Paris, predictably. Caleb Landry Jones, who I usually dislike, is excellent, and his old man make up makes him look like a lizard. Christoph Waltz is doing his usual thing but he's well cast. Mina is apparently Rosanna Arquette's daughter, so it's odd that the two newest versions of this have nepobabies in the role. Adds enough new stuff to the story that it holds your interest, but it is a chore going through this same story a fiftieth time, especially at this length.
>>217806130I thought it was alright, had some visual flair, tons of extras, good looking actresses. The ending was my main issue, idk how he managed to make action that boring but it was a long slog of toy soldiers running around.Second "noticeably all white cast" film recently, the other being 28 Years Later.
>>217806204I thought the angle of Dracula having to repent to save Elizabeth's soul was fascinating and my favorite new thing they added. Made it, of all things, kind of a religious movie.
>>217806231Agreed. The perfume journey was also entertaining. It's the kind of film that a lot of people cry out for on paper, (it feels like it belongs in 2005), but I knew would lose a shitload of money. Has not come close to making it's budget back, staggering the release over 6 months must have hurt the buzz.
>>217790026>Why does this story about a dancer's ghost seeking vengeance have a musical as its climax? Are you possessed by the ghost of a fucking retard?
>>217800031Yeah, I like the Argento cut. More Goblin music.
>>217806000this is so stupid. And I'm reading x-men comics from the 60's
>>217806204> good looking actresses. Can you shut the fuck up
Just put on It Came From Below. Looking pretty good so far.

>>217806639This movie is pretty good. Nicely shot. 23 minutes in.
>>217780538The sleeping bags scene is still the greatest scene in the history of cinema.

>>217806794Yeah this one. Okay, they have found the cave opening and are going in. Giving the Descent vibes.
>>217806779The face smash is also super memorable.
>>217806815This movie is too dark, as in lighting. This is why the Descent is such an amazing film. Everything was shot in a way you can see everything.
>>217807029Okay, I turned the movie off. Too dark. Not easy to film a movie about cave exploration.
Just put on the Hills Have Eyes 2006. Movie starts off so intense and sets the mood immediately.
>>217798415Shredder. Got bad reviews but it's a nice, silly little slasher.
>>217807178Lots of horror movies get bad reviews. Thats why you aren’t supposed to care and watch the movie for yourself.
The 2000s was such a great year for intense and grisly horror. Then the 2010s was great with the start of the James Wan era. What is 2020s know for. We are in 2026 now. Still James Wan? The Nun, Annabelle, etc
>>217807383James Wan dominated 2010s to present just like how capeshit dominated the same time frame.
>>217807116The son makes a joke about his mother’s vibrator during a family lunch. Do white people really do this?
>>217807383>>217807405Are we forgetting James Wan directed Saw and produced all the sequels? 2000s was all him too.
>>217807436Sure but 2000s had movie after movie with the serious and intense vibe of TCM and Hills Have Eyes and french movies. James Wan already had Saw and Dead Silence BUT he wasn’t a huge name until Insidious and then with Conjuring 1 really set the bomb off. 2000s, or end of, also had Sinister. 2020s has really had anything extremely ground breaking. Good movies sure, but nothing outstanding. Paranormal activity wasn’t gritty but looking back, it was awesome FF was on the big screen for a decade. The zoomer era or 2020 and onwards is just garbage mainly.
>>217807494***2020s hasn’t really had anything extremely ground breaking**
>>217807507For me, Smile 1 and 2 are top contenders. >>217807436James Wan really took over 3 decades. He is on par with Carpentar.
>>217807517I am so glad Smile 2 had no black characters. With each movie that comes out, the chance of having a black increases.
>>217807534Smile 2 had a black gay character
>>217807534We Bury The Dead has no blacks too. Also, Strangers Chapter 2
>>217807552He was nothing. I didn’t notice it.
>>217807420Yeah we do. We are comfortable with our families.
>>217807552That character gets a past and doesn’t trigger me, kinda like for some reason blacks and muslims dont really bother me if it is a modern french movie.
>>217807507Yeah. 2020 and after is just Terrifier garbage.
>>217807620For 2010s to now, they also insist on giving us a new VHS every year.
>>217807641And so many ugly actresses after 2015ish. All these nepo actresses. Ugly. We need Harvey back.
Not a fan of movies that take place in the dark desu. This is why I didn’t like Lake Placid much.
>>217806130Mina's on the list
Primate is the kind of high concept SFX horror we need more of. It's the best non-Xeno creature film in years, which isn't saying much but still. Monster films have been in shambles lately, CGI dreck.
>>217807823I don’t take foids seriously.
>>217807891animal films should follow suit. stop being goofy meta nonsense and get back to menacing.though it barely made it's budget back so get ready for more Meg sequels instead

someone must have mentioned Nightmare Detective since I have it on my pc. I probably got it just because that's a great name for a film.

>>217808426Tsukamoto is one of the major Japanese horror directors. This is one of his lesser movies. If you aren't familiar with him already check out Tetsuo the Iron Man.

Just finished. Getting got up on this godforsaken franchise for Chapter 3 this weekend. So boring. It's a remake more than a sequel, and imo it breaks the fundamental premise of the original by using the Airbnb angle. Turns it from a spooky home invasion into a backwoods murder trap. That it's so stripped down is both kind of admirable but also its biggest weakness. Madeline is cute, about the only good thing I have to say about it.
Nightmare Detective was good, really nice ending. And music. Though at points hard to watch since it's shaking violently all over the place while you're trying to read the subtitles.>>217808514Ah that would explain all the shaky cam. And the bike chase.
>>217809249btw that's him right there in your screenshot
>>217809259What the fuck, I was just looking that up since I was like where have I seen him from and it's all 3 Tetsuo films. And Marebito. Actually great physical performance too.
>>217809304He's a good actor and has been in plenty of big movies by other directors, like Scorsese's Silence, Shin Godzilla, and Ichi the Killer.
>>217809188Abominable film really, it's a remake but worse in every aspect aside from her ass. I have ranted about this before, and I will again. He calls up the airbnb owner at like 9pm to try and repair a broken fridge (?) so he can cool like 5 beers down (???). But they even say something like they're getting up early to drive the next day so he's not gonna drink them in the morning.I seriously think they made that up on the day. No sane person would put it in a script.
>>217809319Huh, now that you mention it yeah. Haven't seen Silence yet I have seen the webm of him on the cross.
