Watched the Two Towers in theaters for the first time yesterday. Holy Kino. Lord of the Rings is really on another tier of film. One of the only movies I've seen worthy of the title of High Art.
>>217784914Fantasy is low art by definition.
>>217784929How so?
>>217784995
>>217784914It’s my favorite of the whole trilogy.
>>217785377>>217784929>source: my assYour favorite movie is definitely low art, you pretentious pseudointellectual.
>>217785377That doesn't make any argument. That's just a definition of high and low art. Based on that definition, fantasy is orthogonal to high vs. low art. Tolkien is absolutely high art.

>>217786074i can't compare them, he's a great king. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVEYcTyj1Do
>>217785424Tough call between this and Fellowship for me. So many people say RotK is the best, and it has a lot of the best scenes, but also almost all of the weakest scenes.

>>217786094>big spoilers...I've read the books once and seen the movies like 5 times lol. I had just never seen them in theaters.
>>217786432>.I've read the books once and seen the movies like 5 times lol.cool, ignore me then.>I had just never seen them in theaters.have a good time <3
An upbeat folk cover of Durin's Song if anyone is interested. https://youtu.be/pISzxdEgDCU?si=VsaoZCgTlisBtFBk
I keep flipping between which movie is my favorite. Right now it's RotK but I think Two Towers has been my favorite for the longest total amount of time.Everything involving Theoden is great.
>>217786496gorgeous <3
>>217786550>I keep flipping between which movie is my favorite.<3
>>217786550I've always been of the opinion that he gave the best acting performance among the entire cast.>"Simbelmynë. Ever has it grown on the tombs of my forebears. Now it shall cover the grave of my son.
Did the anon that went to these ever see that girl again? Did he get a chance to spreg out in front of her and hate himself even more than not talking to her the first time?
>>217786698I can't imagine you'd find a lot of dissenters to at least put him top three.
>>217785377>fails the effort to appreciate LOTRso i guess that makes it high art by YOUR definition.Checkmate atheist.

I am no longer able to force myself to watch Two Towers and Return of the King. The feel like a slog with no wonder component that made Fellowship so great. In Fellowship we go from peaceful green hills of Hobbiton to rainy dirty Brill, to swampy Eregion, to beautiful autumn Rivendell, to snowy peaks of Caradhras, to dark mines of Moria to golden Lothlorien to forests of Anduin. In Towers it is just grass steppes for 3 hours.Same with Return. And the characters barely travel, they just talk and fight.Surely story beats are here but between them are rather boring parts.Fellowship feel the only one worthy of watching. It is 10/10, while TT and Return are like 7.5/10.
>>217784914Why the king apointed a man with a surname Wormtongue as his advisor?
>>217788452Didn't Saurman appoint him?
>>217784929You're right.High fantasy is High art. Low fantasy is low art. That's what sets apart LotR from Game of thrones.
>>217785377>Appeal to (unsourced) authorityWorst appeal there is anon. Should've just said "Because I said so"
>>217788386Fellowship is kind of shitty with the whole pursuit in the shire. The horror elements take away from the feeling of "Home". Besides Saruman building army parts and the troll fight at moria should have been replaced with at least a short segment of Bombadill and Goldberry and the Barrow Downs. The movie should have ran 30 min longer with an interlude.
>>217784914This play is absolutely kino in real life. Absolutely pristine wilderness.
>>217784914Anyone else think Faramir was a shit actor in this movie? All his scenes are him looking indecisive.
>>217787190 wat if she was a descendant from Arwyn and Aragorn and he was a descendant of Eowyn and Faramir? Then they found each other after the 2nd movie and lived happily ever after? My real question is: who cares?
>>217789072I thought he had the coolest job as a ranger captain. But a mounted charge into a volley of arrows because your dad doesn't like you is silly.
LotR is for children. You should grow up, I'm 100% serious.
>>217786187>So many people say RotK is the bestThey're plebs.>and it has a lot of the best scenes, but also almost all of the weakest scenes.true
>>217786550Fellowship is far and away better than the other two IMO.Much more cohesive and the story has a better flow, with less special effects-driven scenes. All of them are very good, but Fellowship is just on another level.
>>217789215What's your favorite movie?
>>217788386Never thought about these movies quite like this, in terms of Fellowships "seasonal flow" and how TTT and ROTK is just talking/fighting, which is probably very different from spirit of books. >1 is 10/10 2 and 3 are 7.5agreed on every count
>>217789270very true post. But Gandalf wouldn't use commie weapons. What would Gandalf shoot? An MG42, T24, maybe M60?
>>217789270This has to be a photo shop.
>>217789272I don't have one, but it's not a movie with CGI monsters.
>>217789272Having a favourite movie is for children.
>>217785433NTA but my favorite film is 8 1/2 and I very much agree with: >>217784929
>>217784914Filming the night scenes under the rain machines at Helm's Deep was brutal.t. Wet Uruk-hai
