>the original super nintendo cartridge goes for 400-500 fucking dollars in 2026
derangement

Let's see. A deconstruction and homage of a genre elevated beyond the sum of its parts by a passionate auteur. Unfortunately copied by many but matched by none. Is still a masterpiece by today's standard. Naked Gun?

I got my copy of the game on the SNES mini console.

It's UHF

There's no film analogue. Earthbound is only notable because it's one of a handful of video games (toys) that tried to elevate itself to art. It failed btw. But there are lots and lots of genuine art films. There are no successful art video games.

Jimmy Neutron

>brightly colored and cheerful
>classic hero’s journey that never gets old
>endearingly sincere
Honestly LOTR

It's really not. The most "artistic" games are just good movies stapled onto gameplay which doesn't add anything ie Silent Hill 2.
>>
They have to be comparable. I say that Link To The Past is the Citizen Kane of video games because
>highly acclaimed as the greatest ever
>outdone by countless other works since
>old/clunky and overrated in hindsight
Earthbound is
>charming, entertaining, and full of fantastic music
>lukewarm response/modest success on release but later seen as a timeless classic
>spawned many imitators which were all much worse (and even a sequel that isn't as good)
So the equivalent can only be Space Jam

That's a very good question.

Heavens Gate
Videodrome
Joe's Apartment

Always wanted them to make some sort of MMO of earthbound

The Dark Crystal

So a movie with a very quirky, but uncynical style. Perhaps touches on somewhat darker themes even if only slightly brushing up on them (If you think earthbound is seriously dark watch more than just disney movies or something) but still stays as a light adventure. Perhaps has some space related stuff. Have some abstract stuff here and there. Be very cartoony. Americana. I'd assume these are some of specific things OP is looking for but we've got people saying 'lord of the rings'. Any ideas anyone? I'm trying to think but there's not much I can think of at the moment
>>
I would watch an Earthbound movie made by Wes Anderson
>>
>>217786093
Maybe The Sandlot?
>>
A movie everyone pretends they love and is the best movie in the world... but they've not actually watched?
Probably a space odyssey or something.

Scott Pilgrim Vs the World.

>blatantly points out the tropes of the genre it belongs to, even as it shamelessly partakes of them, yet still manages to be a timeless addition to the genre despite being so self-aware
Scream.
