I miss when historical epics were actually historically accurate
bait thread
>>217786541Bad bait thread
>>217786541tbf Troy was actually very recently discovered to have existed. even if everything about it is buried under layers of mythologizing
Historical accuracy only really comes into the picture if the movie is really bad or if it seems like a malicious petulant attempt to be as inaccurate as possible like Ridley was with Napoleon or Gladiator 2. That being said, Gladiator is a great movie but I still would have preferred it be more rooted in historical fact since there were so many incredibly interesting and compelling stories in ancient Rome.
>>217786639>tbf Troy was actually very recently discovered to have existedNo, it wasn't. Troy was 100% created by Homer. Some small foundations of some place across the sea from Greece =/= Troy was real.
>>217787467Tf are you talking about? Even le experts on it agree that it was part of a broader polity near modern day Turkey.
>>217786526>Always falling back on the old "im too dumb to understand what even the issue is" tactic.I mean its gotten you this far, lets see if it works any better if you keep using it.
There is a difference between some creative liberties in creating an entertainment product based on historical events versus a coordinated campaign to erase the past and attempt to make the new generations forget that civilization was built by white men.
>>217786526I have just accepted getting even as close as 50% historical accuracy in a Hollywood movie is near impossible if it follows an actual event unless it's about WW2, directors suddenly lock in and actually care about getting things as close as possible when that war is the topic.
>>217786526you bet, accurate in SOUL
the better thread would have been to include one actually-accurate film.ideally, in the middle.
Funny how chuds had zero issue with historical inaccuracy so long as it didn't involve black folks
>>217787467Troy was a real city and there was likely a mycennaen greco-trojan war. That doesnt change the fact that the iliad is fiction
>>217786526for me it's Braveheart
>>217786526you a miss a time when you were young and the internet hadnt made you cynical, before social media, when you could enjoy something for what it was instead of other people online immediately telling you you’re wrong.
>>217786526How did Braveheart know about the Battle of Bannockburn?!>Braveheart was decapitated and dismembered >his arms and legs sent to the four corners of Britain>his head was placed on London Bridge>but near the end of the movie he is talking about what happened at the Battle of Bannockburn>It would take 6 hours for his head to get from London Bridge to Bannockburn by rail, according to Google>But trains weren't around in the 1800s so he would have to go there by foot>But his feet were in other corners of BritainHow was he able to get there? Did he have a head start?
>>217786526The real reason anyone seethes about muh historical inaccuracies in Gibson films is because they're too ashamed to admit it's still kino despite their nerd impulse to correct everything.
>>217786541Obviously. Making story changes for the sake of entertainment or brevity isn't the same as shit like Anne Boleyn suddenly being a negress.
>>217786526pic related/thread
>>217789526They are not good movies. Gibson is way too Hollywoodish in his sentimentality. Compare good movies like Barry Lyndon or Lawrence of Arabia to Gibson's slop.
>>217789918those are great movies but boring and cynical
>>217786639>very recentlyTroy was rediscovered ages ago.
>>217789904Muh leftists
>>217786526listen black people belong in africa doing movies for their own kind like indian's do in india you're just pissing off white people, humiliating black actors and wasting jewish shekels even though they sexually get off on the humiliation aspect of the entire endeavor which is the reason this shit show cluster fuck hasn't been shut down yet
>>217789904I think they really don't understand things. I've seen someone say that secure borders means you hate democracy.
>>217790027>superdefensife emotional reaction when called out for objecively proven wrongdoingkek
>>217790059>like indian's do in indialike every single country does, unless it's white
>>217790154Then you ask them what is "democracy", or "fascism", or "reactionary" and not one of them can answer, let alone say why
>>217789904kill all chuds
Historical movies are always propaganda. If you like Braveheart or Gladiator you're on the same side as leftists who think niggers in Europe are normal and you don't even realize it. That's why chuds always lose - those who know nothing get cucked by alien thoughts dressed up as their own and end up defending them.
>>217786526The Odyssey will suck indeed, and these films are 10 times better than anything Nolan could make, but they aren't accurate at all.
>we will never get any pseudohistorical epics anywhere close to as good as Breaveheart, Troy, or Gladiator, or even Kingdom of Heaven or The Last Duel, just Nolanslop and other slopI never though it would get this bad
>>217786526Had a good chuckle. Good bait.
>>217790430You would feel extremely lonely if all people who disagree with you died overnight
>>217790434>we were always at war with eastasiakek
>>217790454>The Odyssey will suck indeed, and these films are 10 times betteryep
>>217786526The only historically accurate epics I recall are Far and Away (Tom Cruise really did participate in the Land Rush) and The Patriot (Mel Gibson really did fight the Brits for American independence).
The last scene of braveheart is absolute kino
>>217788367Niggas haven't really done shit historically
>>217790454The problem with the Odyssey is that Nolan is not only trying to do a heavily stylized telling of it, which is fine I suppose, but he is doing that + also miscasting every single damn person. He already expended his "I'm doing something weird and different" points on the styling, he should of at least gotten some decent casting out of it. Having niggers in ancient Greece is insane
>>217790154About two thirds of them are too stupid to understand and the rest are feigning ignorance to avoid confronting the weakness of their position.
>>217786526And i miss when story was king, writing was subtle and world building was plausible but that ship´s sailed.
