The sopranos ending.. whatever happened there?
>>
I think something was wrong with my TV. Like the cable cut out or something
>>
I don't care. It's an overrated piece of crap.
>>
>>217789802
nothing, life just went on for tony. believing a cut to black = death is reddit and most people who quote that theory didn't actually watch the show since the afterlife exists in the sopranos universe
don't stop believing :)
>>
>>217789938
chase confirmed it. he died

It was Magneto destroying New Jersey.

Based senile old fruit
>>
The whole of S6 is about Tony death, what happens after he goes like that, how his family are looked after
Members Only discusses Gene in the jacket and how his wife wants Tony dead
Its allegorical
>>
>>217789938
Chase accidentally confirmed it in an interview ya midwit. Why the fuck do you think characters were almost verbatim saying during the season that dying is probably like someone just flicking off the lights.
>>
>>217789938
based. the "erm, he died" midwits have become too emboldened by chase trying to walk back the ambiguity of the ending years later
>>
>>217789802
I think Tony did not died in this ending because he was actually winning bigly and the war stopped after they whacked Phil Leopardo.
>>
>>217789802
total copout ending
>>
>>217789802
The whole family died except for Meadow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCb6OL6RGyk
>>
>>217789938
He did not die there’s gonna be a sopranos 2 where everybody comes back
>>
>>217790300
Meadow will be the new boss?
>>
>>217789802
Did boomers really get angry at the ending or is it a meme? How did they want it to end? Happily ever after? It was always going to be lights out or going to jail
>>
Not this again
>>
Tony dies
>>
there's no death scene, because he was a dead man walking the entire series
>>
>>217790588
powerful
>>
>>217790569
Oh they were fucking pissed and disgusted.
>>
>>217790209
If you actually watch some of his interviews he always likes to do a bit of trolling like he did with the russian guy storyline. Maybe he fucked up, but knowing him I believe he just said it to make the fans seethe.
>>
>>217789802
His brains splattered all over AJ and Carmela, they probably got bone fragments and brain tissue in their mouths. Meadow opened the door in the exact right moment to watch Tonys fat body slump over the table and slide down on the floor with a wet thud, blood spurting from the massive head wound all the while.
>>
Tony survives
>>
>>217789802
>whatever happened there?
Why do people always write this out as a question when Little Carmine said it as a passing statement to Phil?
>>
>>217789802
I always wondered what happens to their families after the mafioso gets capped. Like, clearly they were wealthy but since their lawyers or whatever controls their funds that are less than legal what's stopping the lawyer from taking the money and running? It's like carm could track them down and break their kneecaps or go to the cops lol
>>
>>217790668
>wealthy
Not for Tony's crew
The other families probably fight until a new boss is decided
>>
>>217789938
This. There were no interesting cut scenes or anything. The final shooting of the show was in Vegas. The cast thought the show ended with Tony relaxing with his goomar. Tony is a fed by the end anyway. The mob is finished. Melfi was the stand in for the viewers. Since he stopped attending therapy at Melfi's office, we no longer know what goes on in his life.
>>
He died, the scene focuses way too much on the hitman in the members only jacket. It's pretty obvious rewatching the scene
>>
Chase wanted it to be ambiguous whether or not the Member's Only guy decided to take out a couple of the other Sopranos for kicks when he shot Tony, too
>>
>>217790780
I like the "only Meadow survived" theory. Carm's entire moral compass could be bought with enough money, and AJ was a pussy who'd just end up screwing his life up
Meadow had a solid future in front of her
>>
how bout dat pricksh fashe when he shaw the gat?
>>
>>217789802
Is Tony a good character or a bad?
>>
>>217789802
The show ended just like it started. After all that happened, does that particular chapter even matter?
>>
Patsy Parisi. The new king of North Jersey. All hail
>>
>>217790668
they get fucked, they basically foreshadow that when Tony's in a coma and all of the crew turn into cheap cunts when Carmela is around
>>217790780
doubtful because the mob almost never targets mobster family members not also in the mob. understandable since that opens a bit of a pandoras box on people doing it to your family
>>
>>217791356
both

>>
>>217789802
All of season 6 sucks.
>>
>boomers still seething about the ending after 19 years
>>
>>217790235
>all his top guys are killed or hospitalized except Carlo who turned states evidence and Paulie who we know is both lazy and treacherous
>winning
>>
>>217790668
In theory the whole idea is someone else in the crew is meant to leave them the "inheritance" they've supposedly been setup with, but even when there is money there we see several cases of stingy greedy fucks not even giving the wife and family the money that was left for them, let alone the few grand they're "supposed" to whip round and give them out of the "organisation's" coffers
>>
>>217790797
Meadow was the most sociopathic of them all, Tony probably had a conscience buried somewhere (hence the constant panic attacks) and which is why he hated AJ (the most morally upstanding member of the family). So I suppose yes actually that's what would happen but not necessarily what "should"
>>
>>217794014
People forget this. Carlo would have taken him down even if he didn’t die. Tony was fucked either way.
>>
I only remember gay hunting scene
>>
>>217789802
It's a fake, shitty ending scene where Chase spammed red herrings and then waited to take credit for the winning audience theory.
There is NEVER any foreshadowing to this extent in the rest of the show. In fact it's full of retcons, clumsy edits, and dubs. Yet people believe he somehow made this amazing ending that foreshadowed itself with deep symbolism. Even after TMSON, they still believe he is capable of keeping track of details at all.
>>
>>217796349
>no foreshadowing
>absolutely no scenes where Bobby speculates about what getting killed is like
>no instance of Tony thinking about that again when he's in hiding
>>
>>217790060
post proof
>>
>>217789802
It's obviously possible and maybe even a strong theory that he dies in the next millisecond, but the show is already over. He doesn't die in the show. Whatever happens next is nothing, it doesn't exist. Life goes on. Don't stop believin'.
>>
>>217796461
>*no examples before S6B*
Bobby literally saw and heard himself being killed. The quote was just another red herring.
>>
>>217790569
I knew it was coming and still got angry about it. It's too jarring.

It was just written as open-ended. The story ends but it ends without any emotion so it feels cheap and undercuts the series.

>>217790300
Get a better microphone and learn to talk like a human being.
>>
>>217789802
The network cancelled the show and they hadn’t written an ending so they went with the laziest option possible
>>
>>217790569
My parents were weekly Sopranos watchers when it first aired for YEARS. My mom still bitches about that finale, hell she did it last month.

People of Earth, I am Lrrr - Ruler of the Planet Omicron Persei 8. Give me a plausible and satisfying ending to the one you call Soprano. We will raise your planet's temperature by one million degrees a day, for five days, unless we see Soprano at 9pm tomorrow, 8 central.
>>
>>217797532
It's not frustrating at all, it's perfect. You're frustrated with your own limited mental capacity
>>
>>217790168
>how his family are looked after
They werent though, the guys were withholding money from the columbian heist when paulie got kicked in his cocknballs.>>217790209
>>
>>217790569
I just watched this recently with my gf, she had never heard of the series before. She loved it, but the ending got her completely. She went like "is something wrong?" "DID YOU DO THIS?" "IS THIS A JOKE?" I love her, it was such a geniune reaction which i had too.
>>217791356
He is greatest character ever written on TV but he is evil.
>>217796349
There is so much foreshadowing of the death it feels ironic.
>>217796519
Tony does not die. There is simply no point to it. Why would he? The Vipers kill him? What?
I disliked the ending i first saw it but recent reviews i've come to like it.
It doesnt matter, the story has to end, there will be no satisfying conclusion to anything in our lives. Why should Tony get one? In a way i like the schrodingers cat theory most, but still - i think its bold decision to end the series like that. Tony's life goes on, we just never gonna find out how.
>>
>>217789802
nothing, they couldn't think of a good ending so they just went to black screen and called it a day. Ran out of ideas.
>>
>>217791627
Its kinda exciting to think of him handling things with total restraint and intelligence, he'd probably last til he died
>>
I think people forget there is an entire season behind this scene. The story of Tony getting shot and its consequences have already been explored throughout the season as well as the Mafia war.

From a story perspective , Tony is virtually dead anyway. Take your favourite pick which thing kills him, the members only guy, Paulie and Patsy, Eugene's wife, the hassidic homeboy, the onion rings. Either he dies or goes to prison because of Carlo.
>>
>>217791738
>doubtful because the mob almost never targets mobster family members not also in the mob
that's a good point, when phil got whacked they left his wife alone
>>
>>217798229
>Tony does not die. There is simply no point to it. Why would he?
So Butchie can absorb the gloried crew into the Lupertazzi Family, obviously, as he had argued for repeatedly
>But he told Tony he would back off
Newsflash, sometimes mobsters tell lies
Just as likely, one or more of the other Five Families killed him for assassinating a Boss without permission from the Commission, as happened in real life to Frank DeCicco following the Paul Castellano hit. Castellano's murder and the aftermath is specifically mentioned when Johnny Sack and Tony are discussing whacking Carmine

I feel like rereading books is largely a waste of time
thats why I when I feel the urge to revisit some of my favorites I will find a translation of it in a new language.

Also I dont read fiction, but I think translated fiction would be too much of a watered down experience
