>risked his life to get super jacked at the age of 50 only go get zero award nomination
KWAB

Worse than not getting any individual awards this movie is actually kind of good and no one cares
>>
>>217799130
Gotta love it when pebble takes another L
>>
It wasn't a very good movie
33% MMA fights/training
33% crying or holding back tears
33% fighting with Emily Blunt
>>
>>217799130
Was the real guy that big? Being a massive bodybuilder doesn’t seem beneficial for MMA.
>>
>>217799130
>written and directed by Who Whom
Oscar bait movies need a recognizable director.
>>
it looked nice but it feels very empty
>>
>>217799130
There was literally zero reason this guy needed a biopic other than Dwayne wanted an Oscar
I'm sick and tired of Nothing Happens: The Movie biopics like this and the Bruce Springsteen one. If the real guy wasn't interesting, he doesn't get a movie
>>
>>217799201
Exactly. It just ticked off all the boxes for an Oscar baity sports drama. I liked it better when it was called The Wrestler back in 2008.
>>
>>217799130
>doctors warn him that his heart will explode if he keeps juicing
>scrambles to have one last iconic role as a muscle man
>gets a famed indie director hot off his partnership breakup
>fails to even get oscar nominated
poor lad

>the Bruce Springsteen one
That film was so shit. At least this one had a story of sorts. But that Springsteen one was honestly embarrassing
>>
>>217799130
Could he be behind the Ask Josh WEHT...campaign?
>>
He was already that jacked.

He was huge. it was the early days and pride fc didn't test for shit
>>
>>217799130
When he lost in Japan she had to do the walk of shame with the meme style music was the only interesting part of the movie. The rest was just a slog.
>>
>>217799287
what was the story?
>guy quits taking painkillers
>realizes that better MMA fighters are joining the sport so he can't win all the time
>fights with his passive aggressive bitch wife (but they still love each other)
it's not even Dwayne's fault, but you're trying to squeeze water from a stone trying to make an interesting story about some random MMA fighter
>>
>>217799358
It's a story about abuse, support and passion. He was a "machine" in the ring. Outside, he was just struggling to stay in one piece and deal with the people he cared about.
So when he lost his first match, suddenly he doesn't even have that to hold onto and finds himself spiralling. This is contrasted with the end where he's found peace and it doesn't affect him in the same way.
I'm not going to argue that it's the most compelling story of the year. But it's there. And it's a lot more interesting than the Springsteen one (or lack thereof)
>>
>>217799327
Wow who's that handsome lad on the right?
>>
He got a golden globe nom
>>
The movie felt massively inconsequential. It ended and I just thought what happened? He was on drugs I guess?
>>
>>217799803
>Outside, he was just struggling to stay in one piece and deal with the people he cared about.
and this was shown by him punching doors and making catty comments towards Emily Blunt
>>
He can't act and the story is hack. Deduct points for obvious Oscar bait.

Let's check in on Tony Khan
>>
>>217799296
Nope he put on 30 pounds of pure muscle for the role, at his age that is fucking insane to his age
>>
>>217799817
Some guy on stilts

Benny's a pretty good filmmaker IMO. Obviously Josh is too but it's kinda out of wack how much people are tipping the talent scales with them. The Curse was one of the best uses of TV as a medium in many many years IMO.
>>
>>217799164
Should have used the Rocky IV formula
80% training montage music videos
10% action
5% robot
5% dialog
>>
>>217799239
The Wrestler it's actually a good film
>>
I liked when he said My Tummy
>>
>>217800541
honestly, they should have just done a fictional story about an MMA fighter
but Dwayne demanded a biopic because that's what wins you oscars
