Can anyone explain how we used to get 20+ episodes of KINO on yearly basis, shot on location, with tasteful CGI usage? Like what the fuck happened? Why is every show 8 episode slogfests with 50% filler and a 2+ year gap until the next season??

Shows used to have 12 writers and nowadays a lot of shows done in mini-rooms (2-3 writers plus the showrunner) and they tend to just extrapolate on the example episodes from pitch bibles when back in the day people knew those were often terrible filler ideas only useful to help writers brainstorm, and they'd save them for later seasons when they were running out of steam. This is because higher ups listened to you, the viewer, when you asked "why the hell do they need that many writers? How hard can it be to write a show?"

Covid and streaming.

The money isnt behind the major networks with access to studio lots anymore
>>
>>217799739
Well look the consequences of having that many episodes is that the likelihood of the plot and side plots dragging on become higher to the point you could say they could wrap up things really in half the time or less

There really isn't that much time wasted on useless subplots in LOST. Maybe 5 or so episodes are kinda shit but the fact remains they pumped out 20+ EVERY YEAR and it was mostly good.

The downtime was only like 6 months between seasons so even with the cliffhangers and timewasting bullshit there was always something right around the corner.

Now we are dealing with EIGHT episode DOGSHIT that takes YEARS between seasons and they still somehow manage to make half the season fucking retarded useless nonsense that appeals to no one. Why does shit like Severance or Pluribus take 3 years to make when nothing fucking happens and 80% of the screentime is people contemplating silently+establishing shots.

boomer tv jews worked harder than millennial streaming jews

The irony is that shows really didn't have anymore filler back when the seasons were 2 to 3 times longer. Many of these 8 episode shows are just really slow buildup to the finale. At least with 20-24 episodes we got to know the world and characters better, even if some of it was filler.

Filler is a good thing.
The episode of LOST where the boys repair the car in the jungle was one of the comfiest episodes of the show.

so fucking true. 8 ep shit is a good hook in the pilot then fucking nothing until the last 2 episodes
with 26 episode seasons there was a shit filler episode here and there but it was whatever because it didn't take up a fucking quarter of the season

the exec who greenlit lost also got fired greenlighting it which is why they put his name as a creator credit. so even back then there was a lot of resistance to putting a lot of effort into a show.

T.V. series were originally 13 or 22-24 episodes. Where did you get 26?
>>
Good question OP. To answer, I look towards Mr. Robot. Yes, already about ten years old overall, but still tip-top kino. Yet that show primarily has Sam Esmail as the show's auteur. Still, I imagine that Mr Robot seasons of like 20 episodes would be shit. Literal quality over quantity instead of the other way around.

a good "modern" example but like you say, 10 years old at this point. not every show needs 20+ episode seasons but the bigger issue is the 2-3 wait between them

its completely unacceptable that rancid dogshit like severance and pluribus can get away with YEARS between seasons when nothing fucking happens and half the runtime is spent on establishing shots
