This was considered dumb schlock back in the day.Now it comes off as genuine cinema compared to the slop that they shart out nowadays.
>>217800303I remember laughing at the ending when he sees her face in the clouds. Half expected Mufasa to show up
>>217800303Kate Beckinsale refers to it as ‘the career killer’
It was a pretty high budget flick, and you can tell. Nowadays something like Van Helsing would be shot in the volume and look like shit while somehow costing 400 million dollars.
>>217800303Put out an APB on a Bah Xejibcnht. Better start with Greek town.
>>217800303It was considered fucking awesome. Everyone that saw it loved it. Dunno why it flopped at the box office.
>>217800303>Now it comes off as genuine cinema compared to the slop that they shart out nowadays.no it's still pure shit
>>217800507Same thing with Chronicles of Riddick. Everyone I know loved it and we were all baffled at the box office failure. It should've been huge
>>217800706>reddit spacinggo back dumb zoomer
>>217800303Yes, boomer "critics" didn't understand what kino was.
>>217800742people have been posting on this website with spaces forever, newfag. if you're so obsessed with reddit then go back there
I fucking loved it when it came out, I never understood why it got shat on while The Mummy was lauded. Still the best Dracula ever put to film and one of the coolest werewolf designs I've ever seen.
>>217800303I rewatched this last Halloween. You are right, it is better than modern slop.
>>217800507>Dunno why it flopped at the box office. It was ridiculously expensive.
>>217800507It didn't. Budget was $170 million, box office was $300 million. Not a massive success but still a healthy profit.
>Bill Muller of The Arizona Republic gave it a rating of two out of five, explaining that the film "looks like a movie assembled by a room full of computer geeks munching Doritos and playing Wolfenstein in between stints of designing Dracula's fangs".[12]
>>217800843plus he has an automatic crossbow
>>217800818>n-no Ugo back dumb zoomer
>>217800843>Still the best Dracula ever put to filmsorry but Christopher Lee is the best
>>217800908Released right into the 2004-2005 all time heyday of home box office, so probably did
>>217800303we would've had a Hansel and Gretel 2 if jeremy renner didn't blow his dick off
>makes a shitload of money>everyone loves it>pretentious fart huffing critics who can't understand fun say that it is too le unserious>o-oh yea, I was just kidding, I d-didn't like it either...
>>217800957uh you're brown
>>217800303farck I need to watch underworld again. It's shite but I can't stop bros.
>>217800993>Renner leaving behind pieces of his severed penis as a trail while they follow the witch to her candy house
>>217800303Ah yes Bah XejibCNHT, a camp classic.
>>217800938That sounds like who I want writing my fantasy movies.
>>217801013>It's shiteit's fucking awesome is what it is
>>217800938that sounds fucking awesome
It's a good movie. Really any schlock from the 2000's and down is a fucking masterpiece compared to what passes for a movie nowadays. I've been working my way through Dolph Lundgren's stuff and even his direct to video movies are better than anything I've seen in the last few years.
>>217800843actually I will give it one criticism: I thought the tweest near the ending where it's revealed that Helsin is actually the angel Gabriel suffering from amnesia was kinda pointless and strange, the plot really doesn't do anything with it.
>>217801068The last good movie I saw in the theaters was Edge of Tomorrow over 10 years ago.
>>217800938This is what they took from you
>>217801013>person likes a movie>have to pretend they think its shit or "so bad its good" so other people don't make fun of their tastemany such cases. just stop caring bro
>boobs >ass>sick costumes>early cg that still looks cool mixed with awesome practical effects>Transylvania>awesome weapons>badass protagonist in a long leather coat>nerdy sidekick who makes all his cool gadgets for him>vampire boobs>vampire ass>werewolves, but the cool kind, not the gay furry ones>motherfucking Count Dracula himself hamming it up like crazy>huge castles>creepy dungeons>torches and candles>cobwebs and old books everywhere>a vampire fighting a werewolf holy SHIT>closest thing we have to an on screen adaptation of Castlevania that isn't shitit's great, if you go in expecting some serious moody boring crap you will be disappointed but if you want a good halloween popcorn flick it's up there with the best of the best

>>217800843>the best Dracula ever put to filmHe’s completely non threatening and looks like a middle aged gay hairdresser
>>217801184Don't forget how original Dracula's motivation was, bring all his stillborn children back to like.
>>217801232sir, that's a mirror
i literally just tried to watch this last week. its fucking dog shit and i couldn't make it past the jackal and hyde encounter
>>217801351Are you sure it wasn't your zoomer attention span pushing you to find new stimulus?
>>217800303The action scenes sucked, the characters sucked, and the plot sucked. The aesthetic was pretty good though. Well, most of the time. Look at the background when he returns to the papacy after killing mr Hyde and whatshisface ie explaining the religious bond gadgets to him. Pretty sure there are muslims and shit walking around in this catholic stronghold. Muslims literally being pawns of satan, btw.
>>217800908Remember the budget doesn't include marketing budget budget and they don't get the full box office back, it's shared in varying proportions with the cinema chains, that and the studio has financial expectations on how much they'll get back, the returns etc in proportion to how much they are spending, which influences company direction, investment etc. So it is never as simple as 300 - 170 = 130 profit. That 170 probably has tens of millions on top for marketing and they don't get the full 300. Studios might only get 40-60% of this money back, so let's say they only get 150 million (50%). Now the math isn't 300 - 170, it's like like 150 box office - 200 budget and marketing. Of course this doesn't even factor in secondary market like DVDs which could help a movie like that inch a profit or increase one. When you see films like that and don't understand why they were a flop, this is why.
The power of nostalgia.
>>217801377Nah, Im a 23 old zoomer and liked the movie a lot. He just retarded
>>217801496It wasnt perfect, but it wasnt bad either... it was fun and enjoyable, nothing wrong with that
>>217800303>this movie was considered irredeemable shit in 2003 that was so unforgivable it ended an esteemed actors career
>>217801496the power of kates pusi
League of extraordinary gentlemen is kino
>>217802290That one still is irredeemable shit.
>>217802290I loved this shit so much I read the actual Allan Quatermain books
>>217802404I agree its shit but I remember audience were unrelenting in ridiculing it when it came out (myself included)
It's funny how you can go watch some forgettable family comedy from the 90s and the lighting, cinematography etc. are all better than 200+ million dollar movies today.
>>217802290I liked it when I was a teen, idk what they were bitching about.
>>217801084dunc 2coco
>>217800303It's still shit and you celebrating it while calling current cinema "slop" exposes you as merely another nostalgiatard.
>>217802404>>217802435You two are the real unredeemable shit.
Someone needs to bring up John Carter and complete the trifecta of "it was better than the reputation suggested" blockbuster schlock.>I enjoyed John Carter
>>217803852John Carter is good. The Phantom is good. League of Extraordinary Gentleman is dogshit.
>>217803992>>217803852John Carter isn't terrible but it's pretty disappointing compared to the original story. Way too silly and lighthearted.
>>217802371>haha the joke is sex!!! funny sex booby pussy lmao!!!and you are guys are in here saying it isnt shit...
>>217800713>>217800507It was made during this period where the only movies that were respected were Oscar baits. Action movies were severely looked down on.Fast forward more than 10 years Black Panther is rated the best movie of all time by certain "people".It's just a symptom of how "critics" have never, ever been anything more than a sort of corporate mouth piece.
>>217801013The original Underworld is legitimately pure kino. The sequels kinda lost the moody goth vibes and became too much like the Blade movies, but the first one was great.
