I can't believe there are actual people who prefer ''later'' John Carpenter to his earlier classic stuff. If some of you are here, explain yourselves
Whomst likes Carpenter? Vampires is genuinely great, but Ghosts of Mars is absolutely horrible and like he made a self indulgent tribute to himself.
>>217806886*Whomst likes later Carpenter?
>What if zombies but they talk like retards
>>217806886It's not that far away from Uwe Boll and the Doom film adaptation, which is pretty weird for a guy like Carpenter
>>217807247It's a prototype for when George Romero would later make Land of the Dead (and his other later Dead films to be honest) "Oh I'm such a master, everybody calls me great and an inspiration, I can do anything." Without taking stock of their actual abilities in their old age. Like a lot of old people, they start relying on their learned shortcuts but maybe forget why they did them or maybe, sometimes, shouldn't do them. I think Scorsese is the best director when you consider their age, but a lot of people don't like his newer stuff.
>>217807310I don't know how much of that applies to Ghosts desu, since it's so devoid of typical JC characteristics that I start to wonder if he really was all that attentive to it. I should probably listen to the commentary track for it to get a better idea on John's mindset. A lot of this filmmaking shit relies on instinct and having a good inner compass. But you do strike a salient and scary point regarding aging, even if I think most arthouse sort of directors kind of break that expectation, weirdos like Abel Ferrara included. Could be a systematic thing moreso than an individual one.
>>217806826I'll just say that Ghosts of Mars has peak Natasha Henstridge
>>217806826I didn't think it was that bad.
>>217806826I wouldn't say I prefer it but Ghosts of Mars is a good movie, fuck you.
>>217806826The online rumor is that this was supposed to be a Mutant Chronicles movie before they reworked it.
I don't even mind The Ward it's not as good as his earlier stuff but it's still watchable.
>>217806826Full movie for free here, enjoy my friends!https://youtu.be/5d4oBqyqhdg
>>217808807For all the talk about entering the dystopian age we've still got it pretty good for now since copyrighted material still gets regularly posted to youtube and manages to stay up for quite a while longer than you'd expect. I guess it's only a matter of time until the a.i. scrapers become nearly unavoidable but ya know, we're doing alright
>>217807648>it's so devoid of typical JC characteristicsIt's basically a shitty remake of Assault on Precinct 13
>>217807247Doom was litty though
>>217813832God no how can anybody say this
>>217813909Sit down, be humble
>>217815553I love the rock but he wasn’t utilized well in that movie at allNothing was
>>217806826I like them both equally
>>217806826The ward is still better terror than the 'elevated a24' bullshit normies eat up
>>217806826>was supposed to be escape from earth originally allegedly I suppose it being a tribute movie would make more sense then.Snake back for one more movie, hits the beats of the old ones before he escapes for good
>>217806826Truth is he was never that good
>>217815969Ding ding ding
>>217806826I watched this shit because motherfuckers told me it could basically be a Doom prequel. This shit sucked ass and was a total waste of time. Then I hear Carpenter making the excuse that it's supposed to be a parody and not meant to be good. Bullshit.
>>217815901That's kind of what Escape from L.A was about, since it basically was a remake of the first one. Doing the same song and dance for a third time would have sucked.>>217815837Agreed. It was also better than the Saw-lite horror that was coming out around the time of its release. It's just that you expect better from a guy of his calibre. Then again he does like to characterize himself as ''lazy''.
>>217815969He had some good ones>Halloween>escape from NY>the thing >they liveOutside of that quality varies but still he had a decent run
>>217815969Shut up cunt
