The whole scarification thing is pretty nasty, both Azog's face scars and his son weird "metal bandages" are fucking cool. Azog was basically what Saruman was aiming for when creating the Uruk'hai. He's one of those original Orcs created by Morgoth from when they were Elves, which is why he's not as ugly as most other Orcs. He wasn't the product of thousands of years of inbreeding and creating malformed mongrels that most Orcs were by the time of the Hobbit and TLoTR.
