>in b4 'you just have short attention span' and 'you never watched the film'

I'm not here to bash on what a slow paced movie this is, but considering that this was an indie film made from a well known YouTuber, I feel like people are giving this movie way too much praise for what it was.

For one, the movie is about an indie game I'm sure not a lot of people knew about. I'm pretty terminally online and I didn't know about this movie until one of my IRL mutuals mentioned about it.

And two, there really isn't a lot going on in the movie that gives it the praise it deserves. Yes, it is an indie film made by someone with NO film experience and the fact that it topped box office (not an easy feat). But to go anywhere online and see people praise this movie as the best thing to happen to cinemas is quite the stretch. If it weren't for Markiplier or even the fact that it wasn't made by a studio with a shitton of money, this movie would've been another work of obscure films.

Though I will say, visually, it's on par with high budget movies, but for the average Joe, there might not be enough context to really know what's going on.

Anyone else feel the same? I honestly feel like there is just too much hype for something I consider mediocre.

What's next? I'm not particularly excited for this new wave of youtubeslop movies.
But yes OP, I'm sure the film is mediocre, but why would I go see it? Why did YOU go see it? That the entire conversation around this movie revolves around the person behind it and not the filmmaking itself is a red flag.
I dated this 22-year old girl recently and she would talk about zoomer youtubers like markiplier, referring to them by their first name only. And I'd ask "who?" and she'd go "oh I meant so and so, I thought everyone just used their first names now". Creeped me the fuck out.

It’s a good film, fag.

My friend invited me to watch Hard Boiled that same night and decided to movie hop to watch Iron Lung. I knew nothing about it other than the fact it was a Markiplier movie, but I didn't enjoy it myself

Any film is good depending on who you ask, I didn't find it enjoyable. Also weird to project your identity to a random person you don't even know :^)

I watched The Killer at the cinema the very same night Iron Lung premiered. Small world

There's 100% going to be a Fortnite movie at some point, and it's just gonna be another pointless reference-fest that spends all its money securing rights for 3-second cameos.

the film is good but if you cut out the first thirty minutes it'd be great

I don't get this critique, so what? Why does something have to be "Known" first before it becomes successful? Saying "Well, *I* never heard of it and neither had my friends!" is just pure narcissism at best, and at worst implies that establishment in the "Right circles" is the only reason anyone would want to watch something. This is laughable in the horror space.

>And two, there really isn't a lot going on in the movie that gives it the praise it deserves.
Which is?

> But to go anywhere online and see people praise this movie as the best thing to happen to cinemas is quite the stretch.
Cinemas are dying and a youtuber just made it to number 1 at the box office, praising it as a good thing makes sense if you can look outside your own personal bubble for a second. A tough feat for you, looks like.

>ut for the average Joe, there might not be enough context to really know what's going on.
They spell out everything, it's no like you need to play the game. They say it, to your face, what's going on. The only way this works is if you're implying they didn't say "Why" the rapture happened, which speaks more to your need of having it dumbed down.

> honestly feel like there is just too much hype for something I consider mediocre.
At least you're self aware it's a you problem. "People are too excited for something I'm not excited about" seldom rings as impactful as you imagine.

Its was boring but it least it wasnt embarasing fascist drivel like anything the critical drinker writes

I think it's a tough feat for 99 percent of the population dude. Who do you know personally that's a filmmaker?

I haven't seen it yet but I thought it was great

I agree with you about the weird parasocial element, but Markiplier was born in the 80s.

Mortuary Assistant is up next. FAITH: The Unholy Trinity is also in the works.
