Did you watch the episode you posted? The Jem'hadar are killing machines, they don't have any other aspirations. They're bred to obey and to kill and to enjoy killing, and to be hooked on smack, that's it. The actor is black; but the makeup is still pale and the hair is straight. Changing their skin tone and giving them curly hair implies there are different races of Cardassian one of which is arbitrarily similar to Africans. Or is this bitch supposed to be half human half Cardassian? God knows, a future where every species in the galaxy is being bred into a homogenized gooback is a level of conformity Trek used to reserve for the Borg.

Why would they? The ones that exist are already bred to be killing machines, you can't change them. You're going to invent a new breed of Jem'hadar now that loves soft jazz and long walks on the beach for no reason? The old ones are still going to have to go extinct or be put down like Ol' Yeller so they don't go on a rampage. Why make new ones after that? What does it accomplish?

Star Trek is at its best when a good argument can resolve conflicts and convince antagonists to give up their antagonism. Odo succeeds because that's what Star Trek is all about, and you know it. In fact, you love it.

So you think, they'll all of the sudden turn their purpose built robots weapons into a viable race.

They are a disposable bio-robot that:
Lack genitals
Lack sexual urge
Lack reproductive urge or any way of reproducing
Have a lifespan of 15 years
Have a suicidal death wish/social structure so they won't see 8 years.
Have a lifelong addiction/full dependence on ketracel white
Have total religious faith + parent/child faith in the founders

Why would they do that. What would they gain. It's more likely that they would let them all die out and give up on them as a tool...in the alpha quadrant.
>>
>>217827969

>>
>>217828019

Odo can't let them continue to wage war.
Odo can't let them die out.
What is Odo going to propose if not letting them reproduce and not wage wars?

>>217828042
You keep saying "all of the sudden". It's not "sudden". We're seeing them 800 years later.

And Odo eventually succeeds in changing their minds because that's what Star Trek is all about. Star Trek is a franchise where violence can be averted through the power of words. Star Trek is an optimistic franchise. Odo succeeds because we wouldn't have it any other way.

If we were told the opposite, if we were told that Odo failed in his mission, would that really make you any happier?

the ONLY reason people watch it is because it says "STAR TREK"

if it was something new, nobody would watch it at all.

that argument might have been true for both DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise (although they tried to be slick and remove the words from the title, people still knew it was ST) except those people still cared about it actually BEING Star Trek (though some people might argue against that, too!)

not that guy but I can imagine a situation where the Dominion found an already-existing race and modified them to be Jem'Hadar (Tosk seemed pretty close?) and created a method for cloning them and addicting them.

maybe there was a secret base that hid the original DNA or something? or some guilty Changeling tries to un-do the damage they did, as a noble experiment to demonstrate they evolved from their hatred?

of course the NU TREK writers won't do any of that deep thinking, or even check if it was possible in the first place. they simply didn't see that Iconian Gateway episode where the one Jem'Hadar explains it clearly to Dax. NO SEX he literally says so.

It's the most unjuistifiable act of evil committed by a captain in star trek history.

It's not even the first time we've seen Dax with a Trill-alien hybrid host.

Show me the episode where he's a deadbeat father who ran out on a second kid.
I must have missed that one.
I've not watched this debacle of a show and I'm hoping that what was said in these threads weren't true.
>>
>>217828315
Meh. I consider that retconned. Like the first appearance of ferengi among others
>>
>>217828382
Its the final episode.
He leaves his pregnant wife and son to fall into fire and live with the Prophets.
>>

In the last episode of DS9, Sisko leaves the corporeal plane of existence, meaning that he does not raise his second child.

Oh, you mean Academy? They don't call Sisko a deadbeat, their interpretation is that Sisko didn't get to have a choice in the matter. If you think Academy called him a deadbeat, then you watched a YouTube grifter who lied to you.

In any case, the new host for Dax is a Cardassian-Trill hybrid. And it's not even the first time we've seen a hybrid host the Dax symbiont. Of all the characters in the franchise to have some racemixing going on, it's fitting for Dax.
>>
>>217828446
Except its out of character for Dax to be fat and out of shape.

Letting one individual go is not the same as letting a species go extinct. Odo doesn't believe in doing what's expedient, he believes in doing what's right even when it's hard.

We've seen numerous Jem'hadar characters with heart, with soul. They are not machines. Odo saw that they can be more, and Odo joined the Great Link to show the Dominion a new way to be.

>>Fucks sake, they made sisko a fucking deadbeat dad who ran out on his SECOND kid.
>My dude, did you not watch the end of DS9 yourself? Did you just watch a summary on YouTube and call it a day?
>>217828295
Avery Brooks would be pissed if he still cared about it. the behind-the-scenes story says he saw them write the ending of DS9 and freaked out about the Disappearing Dad angle. and he MADE THEM put in the line about "I'll be back... maybe yesterday!" to not seem like he was bailing like a douche bag

Fuck. I forgot about that.
It's not like he's leaving her to go fuck big booty Bajoran bitches. He's sacrificing his life to stop Dukat and the Pa'Wraith.
>>
>>217828481
Odo doesn't lead the Dominion retard.
And his only goal was getting them not to war on solids anymore.
Its very possible that merging into the great link made Odo not care about Jem'Hadar anymore.

Curzon was a warrior. He would not get fat.
I don't think he was fat in the one flashback scene we have of him.

>ODO: Nerys. You know my feelings for you will never change, but I have to do this. My people need me. They need to know what I know, to learn what I've learned from living among solids. It's the only way they'll ever learn to trust you.
It's about more than just war, Anon.
>>
>>217828537
That entire sentence is "I need to stop them from trying to genocide solids".
>>
>>217828549
Anon, don't be disingenuous. You know it's about more than that.

The writing of DS9's finale is what we call "bittersweet", which you might consider to be a mixture of "bitter" and "sweet". It's bitter when Odo has to leave Kira, it's sweet that Odo is going to teach his people a new way to live.

If Odo fails then it's entirely bitter. That goes against what the original writers were originally writing, and it goes against what you want from Star Trek too. You don't actually want Odo to fail, do you?

Right back at you. Not reading the rest of your stupid post.

>THEY ARE NOT A SPECIES
>THEY ARE ROBOTS
>THIS IS WORSE THEN PRETENDING THE DOCTOR IS ALIVE
it's called "writing" and "being creative"
I respect your idea that they may be organic machines, programmed, designed, unique. there's good stories to be told in that

but there can also be other, different, still valid ideas. like they DO have feelings and can be "saved" somehow.

remember that time when Odo did not know who his people were? what if the series ended before we ever found out? we would all have opinions on what it would be, and might be upset they messed up whatever we thought. (remember the dumb shape shifting key from that early episode? what happened with that? nothing?)

they did establish a lot of backstory on the Jem'Hadar, but they could also "change" it if they wanted to. and by "change" I mean, figure out a logical way to explain stuff
>>
>>217828615
>and by "change" I mean, figure out a logical way to explain stuff
Too bad they didn't actually do that.
>>
>>217828521
Why would you even get this mad over a retard
The writers of this show didn't give a flying fuck and just went with whatever, why should you care
One retard trying his hardest to come up with a completely retarded justification for hours isn't going to change that
>>
>>217828649
Whoosh.
>>
>>217828615
There is nothing to save.
They are biological robots that lack anything needed to be a fully functional species.
Even their "culture" is artificial and they live shorter lives then house cats and have a built in urge to fight and die that is so overwhelming that they fight each other and sometimes kill each other.
Their salvation is oblivion.

Changing the recipe for the jem'hadar is effectively making an entirely new breed of robots. Not saving a failed one.

Forgive me, but isn't that the guy that literally got slaughtered like cattle because the Vorta told Sisko their attack pattern?
>>
>>217828727
Nope, this is Ikat'ika. You're thinking of Remata'klan.

I like Remata'klan too though. He doesn't fight for the thrill of violence, he fights for the principle of loyalty. He "wins" against the disloyal Vorta by being more loyal than the Vorta is.

Exocomps? Peanut Hamper?!!!
