Dunk is very young and inexperienced at this point, I'm not certain he could beat Maekar. Also not certain that Maekar wouldn't just have him killed on the spot with no chance for a trial if he killed Aerion.

Oh of course, although I will give them the concession that it was a harder task for them as they didn't know what was supposed to be as important in the story due to its unfinished nature.
And honestly HotD had the hardest job of adapting an in universe biased history book into an actual functioning traditional story although that doesn't excuse them of the fact they then decided to absolutely fucking shit the bed.

The Empire of the Dawn first had dragons. They probably created them. At some point the empire collapsed though.

Much later the Valyrians either found dragons or recreated them. And they also figured out how to control them. First with dragon horns and later by bonding them by blood to their dragon rider family clans. They specialized in creating chimeras via magic, so it's possible dragons were (re)created by creating a chimera of different animals.

A popular theory is that dragons were created by mixing Wyverns with Firewyrms and maybe some human DNA as well.

Wyverns are regular non-magical animals like winged flying dinosaurs. They live in Sothoryos and some parts of Essos.
Firewyrms live in tunnels near volcanoes and appear to be magical. They have an extremely high body temperature, just like dragons. We also see some Firewyrm-Human hybrids at one point in Fire and Blood. It's possible Firewyrms are the starting point of the Valyrian hybridization magic tech and that's why they settled on top of volcanoes.

Ideally? You could have Blackfyre Rebellion flashbacks to go along with Osgrey's explanation of why he chose Daemon and doomed his house for a doomed cause.
But they obviously won't do that cause they're doing this show on a shoestring budget in comparison with the other shows and won't show any big battles with lots of cgi so they'll probably just do 4 or 5 30min episodes with a bit of filler dialogue which fingers crossed is as good as Raymuns incestuous tyrants rant.

A regular trial by combat would have been a good solution though. Either Dunk dies and the problem is solved or Aerion dies and the realm is rid of a psycho prince.

The trial of the seven was a complication he did not foresee, but that point he could hardly back out of it since he already argued for a trial by combat.

All of those solutions would be beneficial for Baelor.
Except for Aerion selecting a champion maybe, but that would also embarrass and humble Aerion, so it was unlikely to happen.

why do you keep saying this? its very obvious why aerion wouldn't pick a champion, he's a knight a prince and prances around like he's a great warrior, he would be called aerion the craven for the rest of his life

It's as likely to happen as not happen. Aerion is a bully shown to lash out at targets that can't defend themselves or in ways that can't defended against. So he could very likely say something like "the dragon doesn't lower itself to fight mice" and get a KG to shank Dunc

By casting the right actors for the role. These novellas have an incredible amount of subtext and depth for what they are, the show just has to use it. Well, here's my "excuse", but I do grant you are on top of such suspension of disbelief
1. Lyonel actually has the strength of his house behind his back, so he can getaway with some stuff
2. Rhysling is a lunatic
3. Hardyng is hellbent on revenge against Aerion
4. Duncan is of course trying to survive
5. Breakspear is Breakspear
The only two who are maybe stupid or crazy in some way we don't know are Raymun (has a whole fucking lot to lose) and Beesbury, but if you take into account that people actually believe in the works of the Gods and whatnot, and of course the legitimacy of the Trial of Seven, then it kinds of makes sense.

it isn't an accident that the story is set specifically in the time period when the Targs are on the decline. they have fostered a lot of resentment from the populace because of their quirks and because they keep sacrificing people in their retarded wars due to awful succession rules. they have no more dragons to frighten the lords and smallfolk into submission, and are being faced with more and more defiance especially what maniacs like Aerion are out of line. this is a time in Westeros history when people are far more comfortable to take up opportunities to act against the Targs especially the people who have an axe to grind against them

some of the knights are also gloryseekers, that is why they came to Ashford for the tourney. except a Trial of the Seven involving half the Targaryen royal family will net far more glory and fame for everyone involved than any tourney ever could

A case could be made that Ser Aeron fucked up by initially denying the boundary stones having been moved (they were) when first accused, plus erred in having moved them without the Blackwoods present to ensure the ruling of the assize from Riverrun was followed exactly. The stones should absolutely have been moved, as per the assize, but the procedure really should have involved both Houses, not been a partisan operation done out of oversight. I surmise thoughtless methods, regardless of legalities, trigger a sizeable chunk of Blackwood/Bracken spergouts, right along with disagreements over which side of the bread should be buttered, Rei vs Asuka shitposting, and whether or not tomatoes belong in fruit salad.

i really like the show so far but i can't lie, getting rid of this:
>The viewing stand had already begun to fill, the lords and ladies clutching their cloaks tight about them against the morning chill. Smallfolk were drifting toward the field as well, and hundreds of them already stood along the fence.

>'So many come to see me die', thought Dunk bitterly, but he wronged them. A few steps farther on, a woman called out, “Good fortune to you.” An old man stepped up to take his hand and said, “May the gods give you strength, ser.” Then a begging brother in a tattered brown robe said a blessing on his sword, and a maid kissed his cheek.

>'They are for me.'

>“Why?” he asked Pate. “What am I to them?”
>“A knight who remembered his vows,” the smith said.

is a serious blow to my estimation of the show. this moment is arguably the soul of the first story and removing it is bizarre, and it is bizarre that a showrunner who seems to understand the appeal of D&E doesn't seem to understand the importance of this moment

and yeah some might say this moment might be moved sometime later in the story but it won't hit nearly as hard if the timing is completely missed
>>
>>217854210
Lyonel is borderline insane in first place, he's called Laughing Storm because he laughs while fighting, he clearly enjoys combat and I think his reasoning of "first trial of the seven in hundreds of years can't miss this shit" is genuine. He's just there to have great time while risking his life.
Raymun is young and impressionable and generally very into the whole idea of knighthood, but most importantly he hates his cousin and, in a way, he's saving his family's name after Steffon's betrayal.
Beesbury is the most normal guy there but he's apparently one of favourites during the tourney and presumably liked his Hardyng brother from another mother enough to help out.

I think the problem is that we don't really know some of them. We know Lyonel, Baelor, and Raymun Fossoway's motivations so it's believable. The others are strangers and their reasoning is harder to gauge, therefore lesse believable. That's something the novella can get away with, but it's harder for the show to get away with.

>suspension of disbelief
None required, the story (and the adaption esp) did well here to set up the trial and each characters motivations, to the point if you think it through they’re all making in-character completely rational decisions. These men are the type to volunteer to joust. To travel around to tourneys and get beat to hell in a time when broken bones could leave you a lifelong cripple. They’re like modern day boxers or mma fighters. Add to the fact this is a literal once-in-a-century thing, and a religious act at the same time. Beating the fuck out of eachother is a religious experience for Andal cultures, and these guys are the apex of that belief system.
>Baelor and Lyonel
There’s also a massive amount of subtext about rebellion and the targs right to rule. The D&E stories harp on this theme constantly. The show makes the dissent among the populace extremely obvious with stuff like the “incestuous aliens” speech. Imagine a scenario where a mad targ prince is effectively torturing people then getting away with it in a sham trial where the kingsguard slay a bunch of knights and lords of Westeros. Practically unthinkable the targs would allow that to happen optically. So of course Lyonel was going to fight because he knows he’s practically safe. And of course Baelor is going to fight because he can’t let that bad optic scenario play out (and he rightfully believes he should be safe). Really, the most unbelievable thing that happens is Maekar allowing his shitbird son to put them in that situation in the first place.
>>

SDTs are a sub-product of the industrial society, so back then they just had the clap, and that's it.

Him and Shiera were doing all kinds of blood magick so it's possible along with the prophetic dreams like the ones Daeron has. But I think it's just supposed to keep us guessing, they'll probably do a another tease next season before he appears in season 3.

Fireball, their weapons teacher. Fatass Aegon IV promised him the next spot on the Kingsguard but died before a spot opened up and when it finally did he was passed over by Baelor and Maekar's father.
He got pissed off and rumors say he along with Aegor(the gold skull one) helped convince Daemon(the kid with the sword) to rebel against the king(Aegor and Daemon's half brother).
The arrow in the head is cause he got sniped during the redgrass field battle at the end of the rebellion, Brynden(the caped kid) also shot Daemon full of arrows before Aegor grabbed the sword and charged at him and took one of his eyes(hence the tree coming out of one of them).
