The Tony Dalton mexican jackass series called no te equivoques was a cheap ripoff but great for no budget tv.

It's very well directed but at some stage you realise it's just one of those 80s style vanity projects where 1 guy makes a movie/show purely just to make him look like an invincible bad ass.

It's so bullshit, the writing is so painfully contrived, this guy can't leave his house without some ridiculously insane thing happening to him, and he magically gets out of it every single time.

The first season was ruined by the obvious forced insert lesbian injun police chief. But it was really great. I'm convinced Imogen Poots is actually a schizo in real life.
>>
>>217964985
Holy fuck, this show fell off hard.
Frankenstein's monster (Mr. John Clare) was the most god damned annoying emo-coded whiny character of all time.
Eva Green croaks all her lines in a vocal fry in an attempt to make her voice lower than it really is. She's hot, but it got pretty annoying after awhile.
Billie Piper still can't act and I have no idea why she keeps getting cast. The more prominent her role got, the worse the show.
Dorian Grey had no place in the series after the first season. He just kind of stuck around I'm guessing because fans liked him.
Josh Hartnett was pretty good in this as was Timothy Dalton. Simon Russel Beale as Ferdinand Lyle was also a great character and as cartoonish as it was, he committed to the bit.

The show started off well, but each season got increasingly worse, and the last one was a complete dumpster fire.
>>
>>217966225
Agreed. Justified is pure kino. I'm binged most of the series, but have been saving the last season because I don't want it to be over.
Also, it was the show that finally won Margo Martindale an Emmy.

A woman is the big bad if that's what you mean. If your takeaway from that season is that "women are strong", you're completely media illiterate.
>>
>>217969552
I REAAALLLY wish they had continued in the way that S1 was. The throwback to 60s TV was so fucking god damned kino but the season was way too short. They did a really good job of spoofing tropes from that era without doing what most shows do and make it obvious that they're in on the joke. They just did the thing as authentically as they could which is why it landed so well.

I know it's too late to bring this back, but I really wouldn't mind seeing other efforts to do stuff in this vein.
>>
>>217971462
These all blew up in the mainstream, though.
Also, the score for Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor were both very clearly influenced by the music from Penny Dreadful to the point where you can hear where they likely used tracks from the latter as temp. (mentioned because Penny Dreadful was posted earlier)

I think Scavengers Reign was done more dirty. That show had mindblowing animation and visuals and unfortunately I think the art of the show was lost on most people. They were smart and wrapped up the immediate story by the end of the season, but it should have gotten more.

I don't get riled by gay people in shows, but I'll give it to you that it did feel a little shoehorned. That said, I don't think it "ruined" the show. It rarely came up and was barely even acknowledged.
>>
>>217963402
The show is in French, but the first season is incredible. Unfortunately it got cancelled and then brought back after a pretty long gap. After the break, it was clear that they lost some of the magic, but I'd still recommend checking it out if you're okay with subtitles. Comedic spoof on cold war era French secret service.

I just finished this and it was slow to start but about half way through season 1 I was all the way in. I like stories where characters believe in magick but you can't quite tell if the magick is real or not because the narrative isn't overly forthcoming about it. Same deal with The Path, they never make the super natural into actual lore, it's more like an ongoing question. Concrete answers aren't the point.

I've never seen anyone mention this show on /tv/. It's great if you want a grounded show about espionage in the Cold War.
>>
>>217983754
Watch the first episode of The Path and I bet you'll get hooked, especially if you enjoyed The Leftovers. Different but similar plots, but lots of common themes
>>
>>217983477
Is it cult kino? I liked lizzie's Martha may cult movie.
>>
>>217983942
Yes, the premise in season 1 is that Aaron Paul wants to leave this scientology-insert called Meyerism. Its first season is fantastic, and its still good after that, it just makes some drastic changes that not everyone was stoked about.

I have never seen Martha Marcy May Marlene but I will check it out if you recommend it, I like cults and Olsens

This show was pretty fucking cool and it sucks they pulled the plug within a week of the first season dropping. I guess nobody watched it, but it had great potential.

why did they make that fart in face scene and the guy who was a coomer always talked about cooming and made a gay porno
>>
>>217983532
I liked it. I can see why people may have an issue with the ending but I liked how you could see it either way. Without saying too much.

i just wonder what goes through the head of someone who thinks of adding a fart in the face scene
>>
>>217984150
Cool, it never gets brought up. The fucking x box commercial gets more of a reference than that show and I was aware of it. I think it was lizzie's second film and it is obvious she was a star. Will from the show hannibal is also in it.

theres some weird racemix casting in it that kinda ruins it, but the main character is a deranged retard, so it fits and i like the seasonal themed seasons. too bad we didnt get a halloween one. it's essentially Crank as a tvshow (for obvious reasons)
>>
>>217964429
it's the other way for me - the show overstayed its welcome and over eight hours of overly eloquent criminals speaking with an English accent proves that the Ritchie formula is not cut out for TV series, it becomes way too dull over time
>>
>>217969552
>season 2, whatever happened there
S1 was fantastic thoughbeit
>>
>>217978381
that ones full of liberal brainrot though. and its a shame, because the animation and visuals are great like you said. when the women beats up the robot after the hunky man fails i just cant buy into it. you go girl!
>>
>>217987460
That was a good one, too bad they cancelled it, still say ouchwitz from time to time
>>
>>217987384
yeah was good, didn't like the smug, clearly retarded in real life nogling chief though.
check out odyssey 5 with peter weller, was also cancelled after one series - had some interesting ideas in it. different style but also scifi

resident alien seemed like it was going to be retarded shit but i watched it bc bored & alan tudyk and it was actually pretty funny, not great but way better than i expected. goes to immense shit after s1 tho
>>
>>217987615
i havent liked an alan tudyk performance since firefly, he has negative range as an actor
>>
>>217987964
Tucker and dale? he was on justified briefly. i dunno i find him likeable but he has no good shows.
>>
>>217988120
he's plenty likeable and i love tucker and dale but literally any other actor in his place would have improved it.

This is so good. Found only like a half a season on youtoube 10 years and couldn't find more (free), anywhere. Need to check, again

stopped watching this show after mr badass got choked unconcious by a teenager girl. some writer had a hardon writing that.
>>
>>217966187
The writing was phenomenal.
>>
>>217963402
It's amazing to me that something could be as incredible as this frogime and have zero to no fandom outside of its origin country.
>>
>>217969787
Holy fuck yes! The murder episode is amazing.
>>
>>217976049
10/10 and I think it is going to gain some serious momentum next season. I've heard normies talking about it.
>>217976269
Tbf (And I adored Scavenger's Reign) they really fucked themselves over by a). Having every main character save for the robot and antagonist have strong, self-centred personalities b). Killing off the best character c). Not catering to the coomers.
>>
>>217977008
I am livid waiting to see his new documentary. Have you seen the secret episode?
>>
>>217983783
Just found and watched this like 2 weeks ago.
Callan is similar and also very good
They are not quite as good as Tinker Tailor, but also a bit more accessible/not as complicated

Woah Hugh Dancy is in it? Because he is also a lead role in The Path lol. Maybe you already knew that and that's why you were mentioning it but if not what a coincidence.

Ya in a hospital in UK. They are property guardians of an abandoned and partially dilapidated hospital. It was fun.
>>
>>217976049
Lol fuck off, this shit would be deep and entertaining if you'd be high as kite. I watched it sober and sad watch it was, plot cringe and ugly as duck.
>>
>find out >>>/tv/ actually does watch and enjoy TV
Good thread
>>
>>217963496
S1 was great
S2 on was shit
They forgot the point was to tell a story about a really sad guy in norvern engerland with no hopes, and made it a wacky hijinks heist thing with the midget the most important character
>>
>>217976717
>>217978302
>>217987515
why is s2 bad? i'm not sure if it's better or worse than s1 but it was damn fine, it has some of the best scenes of the show
>>
>>217970207
Love s1
Never made it through s2 on rewatches
Not sure why, it just feels different
>>
>>217964222
I like Banshee a lot but it feels like they wasted the potential of having Amish criminals.
>>
I don't think I've ever seen a thread about Longmire on /tv/. It's too bad because it really is solid throughout the entire run.
>>
>>217992404
I enjoyed it
>>
>>217987379
No way, it's good til the end. My only problem with it is two of the characters are stuck in a toxic cycle and that takes up quite a bit of screen time
>>
>>217987460
>some weird racemix casting in it that kinda ruins it
Are you guys ever not crying your eyes out?
>>
>>217992305
It ups the melancholy/darkness and goes more away from the silliness a fair bit
I liked the 2nd season way more on rewatch, when I already expected the shift
And, it still does have some of the funniest bits (particularly, "modern practical close quarters combat")
>>
>>217991274
the operator shit was great, but the wife drama was super terrible and practically ruins the show.
>>
>>217976049
If you ever find yourself with some High Tier normies at a party now is the time to name drop this show and get mad respect and possibly a hookup to some free dental care. Next year is too late.

>>217976921
I watched this because of a recommend and it starts out with a bunch of priests get slaughtered, then someone drives their car into a roadsign with a dead hooker in like ten minutes this shit is a psyop.

>>217978381
>>217987460

We have this lowkey KKK racism where so many white people decided to passive aggressively oppress blacks by boycotting anything with black characters, I am sure of it now. I guarantee you the best thing ever could be created and if it had a black male character would be Nerdrotics Worst Show Ever bank on that. They used to hilariously say "make original content that is good and we WILL watch it" haha yeah right what a joke.

>>217978533
You just want the short version there is this decent movie called OSS-117 Cairo that is a French Spy Comedy.
>>
Nowhere Man. It's not spectacular, but for a 90s show it definetely deserves to be remembered more. Bruce Greenwood stars as photojournalist who goes on the run after he exposes illegal government operations in a third-world country. They completely erase everything that ever suggests he existed, so he has to both reclaim his identity and find out who's responsible whilst travelling town to town each episode.

Lot of crossover with X-Files and Millennium (thematically and crew-wise); Mark Snow does the score, lot of shared guest actors, Frank Black's wife is Bruce's wife, weird tinges of potentially paranormal phenonema that don't really get explicitly explained, paranoia, etc. etc.

Plus the pilot is directed by Tobe Hooper. Disney owns it now but aren't streaming it, so you need to watch on YT or download a torrent
>>

What even is the premise?

Lots of old British series are worth watching, but modern audiences can't into 3:4.
Some excellent scripts and actors on display.

Picrel is a masterpiece, amazingly balanced portrayal of the Germans and criticism of the tribe.
I, Claudius
Upstairs, Downstairs (the original)
Foyle's War
House of Cards (with Ian Richardson)
Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy (with Alec Guinness)
