Is it possible to dress like this IRL without looking cringe?
>>
>>217984734
Not since Columbine.
>>
>>217984734
I have pants like this at work and goofy 'tactical' safety shoes, and if i go shopping after taking off my bright work shirt, with just a black t shirt, several people always startle and stare at me which i eventually realized is because it looks like im about to do some robbery or mass shooting. So no, you will look cringe and be obnoxious
>>
>>217984734

Larry looks pretty cool, but IRL he'd come off more as a pimp than anything else. Hot chick in vinyl works. Keanu could pull his look off, but he'd have to lose the extra belts that are holding his holster on.

The short, ugly bald man will always be short and ugly no matter where he goes or how he dresses.

i wanted a trenchcoat so bad
when i finally got one it was grey suede. i wore it once, felt foolish. never again.
knew a fat guy who wore a duster unironically.
the only way you can get away with this today is a car coat, which is only acceptable in cold climates or the beltway.
>>
>>217984794
That happened before The Matrix came out, didn't it?
>>

You knew Harvey Bullock?
>>

It's funny because my cousin was Neo for Halloween right after Matrix and Columbine happened so everyone thought he was dressed as a school shooter.

You can do anything if you're sufficiently attractive.

Edgy trenchcoat cyber fashion existed before Matrix
>>
>>217984734

Only in areas where it rains frequently, and only if you're tall, and the coat is beige, brown, or dark green, and matches the rest of your outfit.

Men's fashion is mostly utilitarian, and if you're wearing something outside its intended use (think sunglasses inside, and/or at night), then odds are you look like a cringe tryhard.
>>
>>217985076
I heard Marilyn Manson didn't tell them anything. He listened, and that's what no one did.

No, The Matrix came out a few weeks before the Columbine shooting and so they tried to blame the way it glamourised gun violence with the lobby scene inspiring the boys but it seems like Doom and Marilyn Manson took most of the blame.

>>
>>217984734
Yes, you can do anything you want, you got one life don't let others control you. The way they are dressed isn't particularly outrageous.
Fit of the clothes is the most important thing. Committing to the look helps, as you get more comfortable with it the clothes start to look better, you make adjustments over time to your look and health and wardrobe and it all starts to look even better on you. Also being around other people that dress this way helps majorly, again you start to pick up knowledge and attitude that helps you to "walk the walk". Easier to pull this off in major cities but even if you don't live in one still do it, plenty of alternatively dressed people live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.

Most online clothing stores offer free returns, so I just order a bunch of shit I think looks good and try it on at home. I send back 90% of it that isn't perfect, and I order another 10 of whatever I kept so I dont have to think about buying that type of clothing again for at least another 5 years. Same goes for shoes.

Sitting online and nitpicking gets tiresome real quick. Just order a bunch and send it back

It's obvious that theatrical mass shootings/murder follow pop media trends. The Columbine shooters dressed like commandos playing Doom, their obvious influence. Now, post The Dark Knight, we have guys in dresses going on murder sprees. Guys driving trucks into parades a la GTA.

When politicians like Lieberman & Gore used to try to pass morality laws against video games in the 90s, saying they made kids violent, I used to scoff. Now, I'm not so sure.

Cringe is half in the eye of the beholder, and half due to the fit. The actual fit, not if its stylish. Someone might see you in a trench coat and think you look like a dork regardless. The thing that makes it 100% cringe though is when clothing doesn't fit. It needs to be tailored. You buy something off the rack and its not going to look 100% good on you because everyone is different. Its going to be a little too big here, a little too tight there. It will end up looking like shit. But if you get things tailored specifically to your body you can make anything look good. Even some late 90s/early 00s 2edgy4u gear. Also the last ingredient is confidence. If you're walking around in that stuff and you look nervous people will notice. If its just another day to you people will think that's your everyday wear

Used to be a guy in my college who would dress like that, he was built like a short techno viking. In summer he did LARP re-enactments of medieval shit so he'd walk around in a faux-fur cloak with just leather stuff underneath and tell people about the coat of mail he'd been forging for the last three years, people who liked him called him Gimli because he was a funny looking bearded short strongman. I never talked to him even once but he was well-known on campus.

Yes and no.

You can’t dress in dark clothes with a long coat if you’re fat or ugly. You just look weird and like a loser. You also can’t wear a graphic t shirt underneath it because then you also look weird and like a shirt rent Eric and Dylan. It also depends on the setting.

I have a collection of leather jackets and coats that would make Shaft blush. I usually wear an old button up, brown jacket that’s 30 years old. My favorite coat is a 20 year old coat that’s a very distressed and faded brown - fits me like a glove and looks very similar to pic rel. I do have a leather trench coat and a black fabric one, but I never wear them casually. They exclusively are worn during very cold or inclement weather and the fabric trench coat will usually get worn with a suit. Why? Because it’s all about how you style it and your setting. It also helps that I’m tall and not a fat uggo.

The real answer is that it depends on how good looking you are and the look you're trying to pull off. If you're some young alt kid or a middle aged man then nobody will question a leather trenchcoat. Putting it together like your picrel would obviously be autistic.

See, I can’t do the black tactical pants. It screams “active shooter” too much.

I balance it out and casualize the trench coat by sticking to single breast and pairing it with blue jeans, black timberland boots, a basic black t, and something light weight and lighter colored between the shirt and coat - usually a thin hoodie or flannel shirt.
>>
>>218007767
What the other guy said. A top quality leather jacket will be very water resistant. My Vanson jackets just have water run right off. That said, sure, it could damage the leather with heavy and prolonged exposure. But if it’s pissing out, there’s no need to be afraid if you’re walking from your car to the grocery store.
