I think the issue is that everyone in Genisys is too pretty/healthy looking, Kyle Reese should be wiry and starved looking, Courtney is too buff (he has cum gutters for fuck sake). Same with Clarke, Edwards looks right because he looks like someone who despite being in good shape, clearly grew up starved.

John is more of a plot device than an actual character with a personality
