Lets make our fun action sci-fi franchise into a miserable and depressing Battlestar Galactica clone
Lets get canned after two seasons!
>>218008661Your fun action franchise was out of steam for like 3 years by the time SGU started production and the producers admitted it.
>>218010264sgu never produced any steam
>>218008661I'm rewatching it right now and it's kino as fuck
>>218008661>outright confirms Christianity is correct, which the original show hinted at>Richard Dean Anderson looks like he actually gives a shit for the first time in forever>gives us Best Girl>gives us more Rodney McKino>gives us Lt Juggs>gives us Lt Blonde Mommy>Destiny is the coolest ship in all of Stargate>Season 2 develops the strengths that the first season had while removing all of its weaknessesSeason 2 of SGU is legitimately one of the strongest seasons of all of Stargate
>Rush realizes he is trapped in virtual reality because the numbers are all wrong
BAAH!
>>218010880>>218010930contrarians>>218010264that's fine. kill it, then
>>218012899>contrariansYou go a head and keep coping, grandpa
>>218010930>Season 2 of SGU is legitimately one of the strongest seasons of all of StargateA bit over the top but you're right on the rest. SGU deserved another season.
>>218013732It took too long to get good. Season 1 was an awful introduction, and by the time season 2 got its groove back, it was too late. Fat kid should've never been invited into the show for being solving a puzzle in a goddamn mmo. He should've been a wageslave programmer working for the MMO company that discovers it's a front for the air force to gaslight people into thinking the stargates are pure fiction.
>>218008661It could've been fine if they had added some humor, even BSG had that. Trouble is they figured that part out too late and by then it was cancelled.
>it's a heya hoya episode
>>218014183Didn't realise Chakotay was in Stargate.
>>218013966How do you think SG-1 would've been remembered if it was cancelled after season 2? People wouldn't talk about its immense potential or whatever, they would talk about Hathor, One false step, Broca divide and Brief candle.
>>218008661please understand, anon... BSG made a lot of money, and then every spin off flopped. The only logical solution was to turn everything else into BSG
SGU is like 10% darker than SG1, if that.Actually, SG1 was kind of brutal when it started, before it morphed into a comedy show.
Now the actual problem with SGU, is it was like they could never commit to one thing.>it's a show about a crew stranded in deep space, but we have these communication stones, and actually half of the plot takes place on EarthOk.
David Blue was typecast in the late-00s as the chubby PC nerd. He seems to have lost a lot of weight since then.
>>218013966Season 1 was trying way too hard to ape popular tropes from that era>indie music montages>dark lighting and shaky cam>relationship drama>bad teen acting>people crying a lot
>>218010091They got canned before season 1 was over actually, but season 2 was already greenlit and filming so they kept it. That's why season 2 is better than 1 by a country mile, Brad and Robert were allowed to write the plotlines they wanted without being forced to do overly depressing shit all the time.
>>218010930I wouldn't go that far but it definitely found its feet towards the end of s1 and 2 overall kept on improving, I would have come back for 3.
>>218014212>One false stepKINO
>>218014349Yeah the stones were unironically the worst part of the show.
Making the Lucian Alliance come off like this mega threat after literal Gods were vanquished felt like they were trying to make the universe more "grounded", but instead it looked pathetic
>>218014667>"the real evil gods were Men all along..."
>>218014569Teal'c gates to the Planet of the Faggots.
>>218014667Oh god no this ragtag bunch of space niggers with stolen tech who kill each other over trivial shit are gonna hijack Destiny and... do what, exactly? I couldn't take that storyline seriously.
>>218014710But they go to Canada all the time
>>218008661SyFy wanted a show like this specificallyThey were already cancelling Atlantis and said "ok you can make a show like this, or the Stargate franchise goes away entirelythey opted to at least try. too bad it look them 1.5 seasons to actually figure out how to do the show properly
>>218013732>>218014419what pisses me off is SyFy apparently liked what they saw by the end of season 2 and was ready to move forward with season 3, but MGM was in such disarray due to their bankruptcy that the channel couldn't find anyone at studio corporate to sign off on it so SyFy had to pull the plug when the clock ran out>>218010930recently rewatched it and I completely forgot how much outward Christianity the show had, that and the cast being 90% white makes the show feel so quaint by modern garbage standards
