...and I'm now a few episodes into season 2. The Boxleitner has begun to settle in, and now Dwight Schultz has showed up as - would you credit it? - a crazy guy. So much comfiness. I wonder if that other guy who didn't watch the show back in the day and was thinking of giving it a go (in the thread a few days ago) has since taken the plunge.

the jump in engagement (NOT quality, engagement) between S1 and S2 is the greatest I've come across in a TV show.

season 1 is "worthy", it's no worse than S1 of any trek but it's just building the lore and laying the foundations. I wasn't sure if I'd bother with s2 by the end, the only thing that kept me watching was delenn turning into Mira what's her name that triggered some kind of childhood memory in me of seeing a couple episodes as a kid.

By halfway through S2 I was so engrossed at one point I jumped out of my chair and shouted at the screen.

absolute kino show.

I was a working chef when this was on free-to-air and I used to rush home to see it at 11pm Thursday nights. Now I have genuine sadness every time I rewatch it. So many of the cast gone now.

I live in both Hope and fear of a remake or reboot. Who could fill Katsulas’ shoes? Doyle’s? Furlan’s? Even Furst, poor little Vir?

At least Jurasik is still kicking, for now.

Reddit is very lame but there is a sad post on there about someone getting Boxleitner's signature last at conventions through the years & he was emotional seeing all the other's handwriting. Very tragic, crazy compared to something like TNG that has had no one even ill or anything really.
>>
Just watched the episode last night where Mollari paid back Garibaldi all the money he’d borrowed and sadly admitted that Garibaldi was his only friend. If you combined every Star Trek movie and show from the last ten years they still wouldn’t have that level of emotional impact put together.
>>
>>218066278
Nothing good would come from a remake/reboot. I hope JMS has enough clarity to see this. Leave it the fuck alone.

>A Babylon 5 reboot, spearheaded by original creator J. Michael Straczynski for Warner Bros Television and originally developed for The CW, is intended as a from-the-ground-up reimagining of the 1990s sci-fi series. While the project was passed on by The CW in 2023, Straczynski confirmed in 2024–2025 that the reboot remains in development, awaiting a new home and potential buyers.

I don't think you could make a show like this today. It would be torn apart by the /pol/brained retards and other cocksuckers screaming that it's all wokeshit.

I've been rewatching Season 1. Man I wish it wasn't so episodic.

No hope, no fear, it should not and will not happen. Do you really want to make this scene a reality?

I gave up when they started acting Fucking stupid and made the Narn start losing to the Centauri.

Every episode has some meaningful tidbit of lore or character development. It's filled with great scenes like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GOHqe0vokU
The Babylon 4 storyline wouldn't even work without the first season.
I'm convinced the people who cry about season 1 are ds9 trolls. Season one of TNG was a thousand times worse yet you don't see people endlessly seething about it.

What other space shows are essential watching? I've only seen Star Trek TOS and TNG and B5
>>
>>218070450
All banter aside DS9 is good as well. Farscape is must watch, Battlestar Galactica while being pretty bad as a whole the first two seasons are kino and it has plenty of great moments all throughout. Stargate SG-1 (and I liked Universe but it's controversial). I'm sure there are a few others but those are the watch before you die shows I can think of off the top of my head.

Star Trek DS9
Stargate: SG1
Farscape
Legend of the Galactic Heroes

Some that haven't been mentioned:
Space: Above and Beyond. By the X-Files producers.
Firefly. Space western by Joss Whedon.
Lexx. Has good episodes but most of the time is acid trips.
Andromeda. Decent first season with great characters, but the showrunner quits. Becomes Hercules in space as Kevin Sorbo gets more say in it.
Dark Matter is underrated

The Expanse. It will ruin other scifi for you since it's so good. Don't let the tards on /tv/ turn you off it.

I'm trans btw not sure if it matters but figured I should mention that just in case.

What's the deal with show to elicit such reactions?
>>
>>218070800
It has some black people in it so that triggers the brainrotten losers here. They seethe at the slightest mention of the show and demand anons don't watch it or give it a chance. But it's the best scifi in the last decade, fantastic world building, and a great story with great characters.
>>
>>218070800
It flew under the radar for how strong the first season was, but each season is a significant departure from the last even though it continues the same characters' stories. The Expanse is still one of the top shows on Amazon like Patriot.

Has any show ever done as good a job of building up (and then delivering) the "big baddie" as Babylon 5 did with The Shadows?
>>
>>218070909
Nah, you suck
>>

Saw this show for the first time around 12-13 years old. They seemed so scary and bad ass at the time and somehow unlike many other things they stood the test of time and I am still impressed by them. I might not get the same thrill up my spine but they are just a solid antagonist. I really liked how they used subservient humans to add a secondary creepy factor to them. The conversation Shariden has with them on Zahadoom was a kino scene.
>>
>>218070901
It's not a departure. It follows the books almost perfectly. Each season is a logical progression of the story and reasonable follow-on as the characters explore the events they are going through and the fallout from them. It's not made up on the fly like the slop that's on tv now.
>>
>>218070800
It's the personification of the enshitification phenomena. People get mad because it had a lot of wasted potential and shit the bed hard. That's why it's rarely talked about even though it's much newer than classics like B5 and DS9 that have stood the test of time and only gained greater fame as they aged. In another 10-20 years no one will even know the expanse existed at all.

>>

I dropped Expanse at the telepathic hivemind zombie virus, which means that I dropped it at precisely the right time and I never ever suffered from any regrets whatsoever.
>>
I bought two of the Starfury kits back in the day, a standard one to build and a ‘collectors edition’ with the B5 pin and certificate signed by JMS.
Went to build the spare and the plastic was warped, wouldn’t fit together properly. Pissed me right off.
