>>218108736>“Cowabunga, dude!”That at least is a fun phrase. The turtles are based.

>>218108856>and Tuvok goes "word"
>>218108680All of these sound like they belong in other shows that aren't Star TrekWhat is it with these theater kid faggots and thinking a show needs to go edgy just because it's on a streaming service? Also how do you justify doing this to a show that prided itself on the dialogue being sophisticated, is it really that difficult to have some restraint?
>>218108916please tell me that quote is real
>>218108680Writers are more gay and diverse now and it reflects in the dialogue. More characters speaking nonsense, not plot related, ect. Here’s how to fix /trek/1. Go back to 60-90s era WPM. The average trek show had 4000 words of dialogue and 80-90wpm, but now it’s insanely higher. I blame West Wing/ER/House for characters never shutting the fuck up. Not everyone needs to make a speech, god damn.2. Neutral flat lighting. Lens flare is gay.3. A constant engine hum of a starship needs to be heard at all times.4. Starfleet needs to be majority white, and male. Starfleet being a diverse cast of aliens is dumb and gay.5. 20 episode story archs are dumb and a big waste of time. It forces writers to jam non story related dialogue and events into episodes to fill space while slowly rolling out the “season narrative”.6. It can’t be preachy. Having episodes reflects current events are ok if seldomly used, but issues must be handled with maturity, and the writers must do their best to represent controversies from all angles. If they actually fixed this, normies will start watching Star Trek again.

>>218109043>The average trek show had 4000 words of dialogue and 80-90wpm, but now it’s insanely higher. I blame West Wing/ER/House for characters never shutting the fuck up. Not everyone needs to make a speech, god damn. That’s because the stage actors with Master’s Degrees in classic Trek could speak volumes while saying little. A look or gesture could go so far. NuTrek actors just say the lines they’re given and collect a paycheck.

Plus they don't really feel attached to the Nu-Trek shows besides PIC building off Romulus's destruction afaik.Though in hindsight they were just JJ's resume to Lucasfilm.
>>218115493Belanna has had a fair amount of dialogue that probably isn't shared with the human or klingon versions, but it's mostly just "now we need to build this thing" so it's not a huge lossI do wish the game was a bit smarter about delegating speaking roles to these characters instead of outright replacing them, Tuvix should still have things to say about security and the Delta quadrantMaybe mods will fix it, I was hopeful about it but I dunno if this game will get enough of a modding community to bring out its full potentialIt'd help if Daedalic put out a mission maker or something, at least, sort of like World of Horror

>>218116597TNG had efficient storytelling because the first five minutes would have a voiceover telling you where they were and what they were doing. Then a guest character would beam onto the ship, then something would go wrong. Cut to opening credits. Five minutes and the viewer had all the information they needed, plus a reason to stay until the end of the episode.
>pranking the Romulans by sending them Janeway's dildodevilish
>>218116715I mentioned it a few threads ago but the cable television format with commercial breaks really did help TNG so much, the writers used the limitations to their advantage and turned it into a theatrical experience. Fading to black and fading back in, like the curtains closing. Very rhythmic.I also miss when there was a clear dichotomy and movies were widescreen whereas television, such as Star Trek, was in 4:3… but that’s a whole other autistic rant
By the end of TNG and DS9, I find Romulans to be the least intimidating of all the major factions>reintroduced into the series as the B-plot to the cryogenic humans episode as the mutual victim to a new threat (the Borg)>multiple "Romulan plots" turn out to be the machinations of some other aliens (the things that mistook the artificial singularity for a nest, "My name is Barash")>IIRC they're the only major faction banned from free travel through the Bajoran wormhole>Starfleet gets to borrow their cloaking technology >tricked by a homosexual tailor into joining the losing side of a war>weirdly sympathetic to their prisoners (that Klingon camp, Tasha Yar's time travel rape baby becoming a high-ranking official)>Section 31 made that Romulan patriot their bitch and Ross didn't care>that one Romulan who died like a bitch in the Dominion prison>still treated as the Federation's mortal enemy even though the Romulans had the most amicable reaction to progenitor aliensjust all adds up to make me view the Cardassians (who are supposed to be significantly weaker) and even the brain dead Klingons as the more legitimate threats.

>>218117070I never cared much for Peter David's Star Trek stuff, he treats it like a comic book universe. Kind of like how nutrek does.
>>218116989They're just so shallow, they clearly never had a champion on the creative side because they never, ever advanced past the base level of being sneaky and duplicitous, never developed any good recurring characters (the two most famous Romulans are Tomalok and Sela, Tomalok is a Scooby Doo grade villain, Sela just absolutely sucks) and most of all despite there being some good self contained Romulan episodes there's no bigger picture story of worth with them at all. They were, unironically, drastically improved by blowing up their homeworld.
Romulan culture is the most advanced in the Alpha Quadrant. It features such intricate nuance that you honestly probably can't understand it without at least a decade of dedicated study.

>>218117571>>218117695The original "Heart of Darkness" idea was commendable but it wasn't going anywhere.
>>218117526They used to do How It is Made and shark week stuff too.
>>218117451It’s insane how little cultural impact NuTrek had had. 9 years and hundreds of episodes, but nobody outside of nerd bubbles even knows these shows exist. Even in the 80s/90s, people who had no interest in sci-fi knew who Kirk and Picard were. They even knew the actors who played them and their catchphrases. If you stopped somebody on the street to ask who Michael Burnham was, they’d give you the most confused look.
>>218118448>hundreds of episodesWhat the fuck I thought those were 'modern shows' with 6 hour-long episodes per season or something, they made that much garbage already?
>>218117715philler didn't have rdm to slap him around when he got retarded anymore, many such cases

Does LoDe actually pay respect to Tru-Trek or do the writers just pull from Star Trek memes on social media?
>>218118501STD and LD had 50 episodes each. PIC and SNW had 30 each. SNW is contracted for another 1.5 seasons. Prodigy had 40 I think. SFA is contracted for 20 episodes minimum. That’s hundreds of hours of content that Joe Normie has no idea was ever made.
>>218118686I watch (real) Star Trek and even I didn't know there was that much nu slop, damn.

>>218118627There’s a SNW crossover where the characters are played by their VAs.
>>218118627It's Rick and Morty/Harley Quinn 'self-parody'
>>218118904I dislike how much the characters act like 21st century assholes, rather than the more enlightened crew of TNG. Even Obrien and fucking Barclay were more professional, more "Starfleet", than anyone on the Cerritos. Jacked PTSD Bajorin guy is kind of funny though, at least in concept.
>>218118958a horny cat lady is 100% true to gene's vision
Why were the writers in ENT so retarded? They should've made the theme of the whole show as building up the world of star trek and the federation.ENT is at its best during the Vulkan and Andorian episodes. There should've been way more of worldbuilding rather than random shit nobody cares about, like the Xindi. Some of the Xindi episodes were decent action episodes, but ENT would've been way better off if it had been about worldbuilding.

>>218119473A cross dressing Klingon could work if he were like Kaji in Persona 4. A bruiser with a feminine side that only bubbled to the surface around close friends. But Jay-Den is always acting and dressing feminine.
>>218119440A barrel is going to fall on his back alright
>>218119569Yup my thoughts exactly. It's a good idea for a klingon, but they just fucked up way too many aspects of it. This show is so dumb it is actually impressive
I should have killed EVERY last one of them. I should have turned their planet into a graveyard the likes of which the galaxy had never SEEN!!!I should have killed them ALL...
>>218119569>>218119663It's not a good idea. It's a terrible idea. Just another "subverting your expectations" trope. Let's make the ultra-masculine character ultra-feminine!The writing acumen of a 38 year old wine aunt who says words like "furbaby" to her friends.
>>218119349They should've been doing that in season 1 and 2.Really, they should've had Manny Coto write the whole thing from the start.Get rid of the temporal cold war, the suliban, and and xindi. The first episode/arc can be similar, but instead of the suliban, it should be either the romulans or some new race loosley allied with them, where the romulan connection is explained later.Bring in more of the undeveloped races, like the tellarites, betazoids, and bolians. The theme of the show should be how the civilizations that make up the federation slowly learn to resolve their differences, while also setting up the future wars with the klingons and romulans.
>>218119751Star Trek was the original “subverting your expectations.” It just handled it a lot better than Whedonslop.

>>218119718>I should have killed them ALL...put them up against the WALL
>>218119773>>218119349And the Romulan War was mostly one-on-one battles, political subversion, and sneak attacks. The Xindi had a fucking planet destroying laser. It would've been hard to lower the stakes after something like that.

>>218116989I really wish we got the story they were trying to craft towards the end of ENT before it was cancelled. The conflict with the Romulans and it being the catalyst for the founding of the Federation had kino potential

More people are talking about a short made for a 30 year old Japanese sci-fi cartoon than anyone has ever talked about Lower Decks. Let that sink in.
>>218122422Voyager ending needed another 5-15 minutes of runtime. They finally get back to Earth, and it's only shown for a few seconds, then Voyager ends. Even some generic scene of the Voyager crew meeting starfleet would've been better.
>>218122533The pettiness of Berman not using any Jadzia footage for the montage still pisses me off. Worf looking back on his time on DS9 and not having any flashbacks of his fucking wife was wild. Just scrap the whole montage bit at that point.

>>218123955Old Trek had plenty of jokes. Both good and bad
>>218123981Are you getting paid to defend this crap?
>>218116989Even ignoring DS9, by the end of TNG the Cardassians end up feeling like the second most effective villain race behind the Borg what with the Four Lights torture guy and the border disputes creating dissent within the Federation. Hell, you could argue even more than the Borg since they started showing cracks in their threat level in Descent (from a narrative standpoint, obviously in-universe they were still the most powerful threat). And it doesn't help that Cardassians and Romulans have a lot of surface level overlap (political schemers who wear grey).
>>218116989I always got the impression that the writers forgot how many Romulan episodes featured them as either allies, sympathetic, secondary threats, or misdirection, so we end up having to take the characters' words that these are the most dangerous superpower in the Alpha Quadrant.
>>218122928Why is Earth the only planet where their mythology is complete BS?
>>218122851It wasn't pettiness. Her (((agent))) pitched a fit over them using voice clips of Jadzia a few episodes prior without permission. He wouldn't allow them to use footage.

>>218123745Roddenberry insisted the dialogue be professional yet timeless so anyone could enjoy it. Nobody over the age of 25 can stomach NuTrek dialogue. It's going to age horribly. Like all those shows from the 2000s that had an episode or story arc where a teenage character becomes a goth. Even masterful shows like Sopranos and Frasier succumbed to that trend.

I don’t understand the timeline. How did they have advanced enough technology and a society that had various dictatorships for the Eugenics Wars in the 1990’s but then the Bell Riots happened in 2024 and it looked like regular modern times. There’s also that episode in Voyager where they travel to the 90’s and it seemed normal and not like superhuman dictators were controlling things.
I understand the timeline.
