Worst part of this shitty debacle is that they spend a whole movie playing up the "getting the team together" angle and then none of these recruits do anything of note. All of them are legitimately mook-level.Also that zesty gay villain dude gets defeated and then they "revive" him and it's kind of played up that he's some sort of crazy psycho monster now and he looks and acts exactly the same.
I had to laugh when I learned more about the motivations and character of...a monster they fight in one scene, than I did almost any of the actual warriors they were supposed to be recruiting, including the one they recruited in that very scene.

They weren't even written in horror movie style where you want them to die. What happened?
>>218156610You can tell Snyder fell in love with the gay bad guy dude and Boutella who somehow weighs 30lbs in these movies.Probably 90% of the running time is lingering shots on them as they flex or sweat or something like that.

GRAIN is the water of life running through our destiny's water of life!" Etc. Then GRAIN is also some demon monster for the king which gives the princess her superpowers.
>>218156460The thing is that it would be so simple to fix the dumbest things. Why are the empire after the village? Well, the crops they grow are super special and only grow here, they can't plant them elsewhere. They are needed for special medicine that keeps their leaders alive or they need it for super-serum for their soldiers or something. Only the town knows exactly how to grow these delicate plants so the empire would rather take their crops than kill everyone. There, that's why the empire is so interested in a small village and why they don't just take over the place. Why is the hero flying to other planets to find one person that she hopes will join her? The hero needs to find some people who will stand up to the empire. Luckily she was in some kind of special forces mercenary unit some years ago, or she briefly encountered them and hid them or fought with them, and she saved them all so they all owe her a favor. She's cashing in by making them join her. There, that's why she flies around and convinces people to fight the empire with her.

>>218165418>Znyder unchained could do.We already saw what would happen with Army of the Dead, its spin-off and the older action movie.Snyder's only decent movies are adaptions of other works and one of them is only good when you ignore that it is an adaption which disregards the themes of the source material. As an Anon already said, he is an "idea-fuy" with a somewhat distinct, but nonetheless monotonous and superficial visual style which he indukges in excessively whenever he is handed free reign.Rebel moon sparkey interest because it promised to be great sci-fi epos on the scale of Star Wars for mature audiences. Nobody exspected good writing, but it failed to be an epos and ended up to be less mature and more vapid than the Star Wars OG trilogy.
>>218165618Nope. >>218165905>bot post
>>218156178Why does he make this pose? Who's he making it for? This is the problem with Snyder's blocking out scenes, he bases them around some random image he thinks looks cool, whether or not it makes any sense for someone to do. So once you leave "le cinegrid" and actually see them in motion you see a lot of clumsy storyboard poses strung together.
>>218165959>no responseWhy even post?
Not saying that all costume and set designs were perfect, certainly not, but I like the overall 40K aesthetic, even if it sometimes clashed with each other. I would be willing to watch and enjoy Rebel Moon if the actual quality of the material wasn't already easily discernible by a gross summary of the plot.
I was in this movie back when I was a background actor. I played one of the great depression era space viking farmers. It didn't really make sense, but I also never saw the script or the movie. Zack Snyder was a nice guy though.
>>218165841>It's better than the MCU and nu-warsPeople only say this due to sentiment to the IPs thar once we're good. Not that I say new Marvel and New SW (except Andor) are good, but those movies break at parts, I don't even thought could happen in this time and age.
>>218153784>what if warhammer 40k... but lame and gay!
>>218156097This is one of the scenes that I (>>218166318) was in.
>>218165841In case of Star Wars only the Sequels. The Star Wars movies had problems, many, but there is a reason it manifested itself as the quintessential icon for sci-fi pop culture and nerd culture as a whole.Even the Prequels are much more coherent and better written despite their terrible pacing and dialogue. At least their stories made sense. What is there to say about rebel moon? Being derivative of other greater works wothout actually integrating their aspects properly into the plot? An excessive use of violence and sexual tones which serve no reason? Barebones characters? Terrible camera angles? A nonsensical story and world?
>>218165605The Star Wars sequels were shot on film with a working camera lens.
>>218166318What were you paid for your work? Just asking out of curiosity.
>>218166023For the audience because Zack thought it was cool. That's the answer for everything in a Snyder movie, it doesn't have to make any sense.
The fact that Turok is an actual Prince from a civilised planet, makes him fighting with axes even less sense.
Considering the entire story hinges on the viewer caring about that village Snyder did a piss poor job of conveying that. The village, due to shitty cinematography, feels like some toy diorama, except of course cgi. It never feels real in any sense of the word. Never conveys why we should give a shit if some stubborn farmers live or die. The "face" of the village, that the audience should focus on is some weak looking twerp that tags along to get the team going. I can't even recall a single line or even a thing this dude did. He's supposed to convey he's an everyman dude so we identify with him but the movie is too busy focusing on the gay villain and emaciated bogtella for this to ever matter. In fact if you omit that dude you lose nothing, and by extension nobody gives a shit about this village either. It has maybe two dozen people. They could've all packed up and went on a two week vacation and by the time they're back the gay villain would already be extorting grain out of some other location.the group of "heroes" that we spend so much time on collecting are likewise non-characters. they barely matter. they get collected and then do fuck all. that black dude is supposed to be some general or something? the gladiator dude? well he does fuck all as soon as he shows up. same thing with that gryphon dude that also does fuck all. in fact everyone does exactly fuck all because snyder is in love with showing that gay dude sweat and flex and act unhinged and then the only person that even matters on the side of the good guys is bogtella that looks so malnourished it's shocking she can even throw a punch, let alone defeat anyone. maybe Snyder has a thing for emaciated women since gadot was also looking rail thin as wonder woman.bizarre
>>218153784I went in blind, watched 45min of it, until the evil guy was on ship wearing a tuxedo, and I was like "What the fuck is a tuxedo doing in Star Wars?" And then I realized it wasn't a Star Wars movie
>>218166564I don't remember the amount exactly, but I was in the union at the time so it was pretty good. Background work actually pays pretty well because of the long hours and several "bumps" given for things like using smoke on set and having lunch break too late. The problem is it's freelance. You'll work every day one month and then go four months without working at all. It sucks too. It was the only job I ever had that I actually liked.

>>218170207But the other one is in the film as well
Remember when Netflix and Snyder tried to claim this was more popular than Barbie?
>>218169847Yes, yes it is.But it's Dune in a film based on 7 samurai with lightsabers, so it's not like the film has high standards to begin with.As it is right now it's just fucking stupid that an empire would show so much interest in a small village and their corn. You'd think there was an easier way to get food than to fly to another planet and threaten a village with 40 people living in it, then leaving a couple of soldiers there for 10 weeks. This is apparently a setting where the empire has plenty of time, fuel and manpower, but they are sorely lacking grain. Why the fuck is this such a big deal? It seems so stupid that this village with their grain is the entire issue that needs to be resolved. They could have made the evil leader a petty young son desperate to prove himself - the village insults him or laughs when he falls into a pond or something and he lashes out by taking their grain. And it might be "getting the band back together" but it's still better than this half-assed shit we got in the film. They go looking for someone to join them, you know, as you do in this kind of situation. They meet a smuggler who says "oh, I know of one guy, a prisoner, he's on another planet but he's cool so why don't we track him down? Sure, they say, not like we've got any other plans. Let's just assume that this guy wants to help us and that we can find him. Wow, lucky us, we stumbled upon a kickass woman with lightsabers along the way and she wants to risk her life helping us out! It's so utterly aimless. They just go to and through, gathering up individuals like it's an RPG video game. But they're actually aiming for that one disgraced general. Surely he'll drop whatever he's doing to risk his life defending this tiny village. All I'm asking is for some decent explanations and reasons for things to happen. This is just Snyder making a bunch of "cool" scenes and loosely stringing them together which results in a shitty film.

Was I meant to be cheering at a triumphant moment? Cos if this guy was meant to be hateable enough that I'd be glad to see him killed by his livestock in some sort of just desserts, the film didn't exactly show it. Ok, indentured servitude isn't nice, but it appears as if that was the arrangement the prince had made when he couldn't pay off his debts, and the guy was pretty reasonable and straightforward. Maybe if he just got knocked on his ass or something and looked like a fool for thinking he could tame the noble creature or whatever, but no, it skewers him dead on the spot.

>>218171959Snyder's solution to any given conflict is "the person dies". Think about it. It's true.
>>218156097Must everything be shot anamorphic these days? It takes so much away from the effect as a whole when used in scenes that don't benefit from it.
>>218154545I can't believe there are people still seething that the Snyder Cut was a success and better received than the Wheedon cut
The worst thing to happen to Snyder is becoming obsessed with these weird ass lenses thats hes shooting these movies. And also not having an actual cinematographer and doing it all himself (no doubt to cut costs for Netflix)

What’s strange is how the village doesn’t use industrial equipment for their grain and yet it’s assumed a gigantic battleship needs their harvest or else they’ll starve.Wait why am I even asking any of this? Snyder is retarded. None of this makes sense. The setup is retarded and only gets dumber as the movie progresses.

>>218167933Snyder doesn't articulate himself well and, frankly, always sounds a bit like he's drunk even when I'm pretty sure he isn't. But I don't think he's stupid at all. He has a great grasp on archetypes and on utilizing the visual language of genre cinema to convey social and political commentary. I think he's just a guy who thinks very visually.
>>218173273The Snyder Cut was one of the most astroturfed campaign ever.
>>218178847lol no, redditGrow up
I might be one of the biggest Snyder apologists on this board and even I think this movie was unadulterated dogshit. I can't even being myself to watch part 2. The first one was so bland and original. I will argue all day for the watchmen, Dawn of the Dead and the snydercut but this was atrocious, eccoriable pap
>>218179017*Unoriginal
>>218178941>to convey social and political commentaryI do not agree in the slightest. His attempted themes and motifs are almost comically literal and surface level. He seems to believe that copying an image automatically imbues the shot with the meaning of the original, be it a painting he saw, another film (which he frequently cribs way too blatantly from) or a comic book cover, since I'm uncertain he's ever read a comic outside of Dark Knight Returns, so you just get constant visual recreations of things presented to you, mixed with characters posing. It gets old. Really old. Especially when between his storyboard poses, his direction actually often feels rather clumsy, contrary to all the "he's SUCH a good director just needs a writer" talk, his blocking out scenes often has actors looking aimless as they wander from pose to pose.
>>218178963>nuh uh!Wow, how compelling
>>218178941>He has a great grasp on archetypes and on utilizing the visual language of genre cinema to convey social and political commentary.the fact that none of the above is true (he's the opposite of that) contradicts the following line>But I don't think he's stupid at all.

Really? This is like a faggot complaining the Lion king is bad because is a rip off of hamlet. Probably 99% of the idiots that parrot that never watched 7 samurais.
>>218179155>that is acceptedLike what?
>>218179155The Lion King features fantastic animation, quality voice acting, good songs, and an engaging story simplified from Hamlet. It's not what it's about, it's how it's about it, and Rebel Moon is fucking stupid about it.
>>218179155The problem is that it is a BAD 7 samurai ripoff. He spends a very long time to get the gang together, they all get their little "episode", but you still don't know much about them. Which Hack Snyder realized later, so he literally has a scene where the general goes "We go to battle together tomorrow and we need to know more about each other so we can trust. Quick, tell me about your backstory." and then they tell their backstories, one after the other. I never watched 7 samurai, but I did watch the magnificient 7.

>>218180055NTA, but I would say it had potential in that I liked the setting it teased, a gritty (though not fully grimdark) space opera somewhere between Dune, Star Wars and 40k. Star Wars is ruined, Dune has been done, 40k is not coming. The look was good, the sense of scale and some of 40k inspired costumes. But the story and writing in general was atrocious. That is Snyder's main issue: he is good at making things look epic, but he is a horrible writer. There is a reason his best movies are based on graphic novels where he basically just had to pic the best panels and recreate them with humans he could then paint over.
>>218180472All Snyder's "positive" reputation is based on schizos dreaming about what it could have been if he made good movies, if the they were completely different and someone else made them

>>218180055>nigger come off it, no it fucking didn't lmaoIt honestly did though. It's a ripoff of some much better things, sure, but a lot of other things are too. some of the character archetypes were great, the world stolen from WH40k etc. was good too, in general the designs were good but he just isn't human so he doesn't understand anything. For example, why does the pagan village have to have sexual orgies? Sure, they did this back in the day, but not in such a tiny community and not if you want to sell them as "le morally good oppressed peoples", but since he's il autismo incarnato he doesn't understand how this will look to a normal person in current year.Anyway if all women in this movie had hairy arms, legs or armpits, I would watch. Boutella especially who is so annoyingly hairless everywhere despite being some kind of an Arab, that she looks like a fucking worm.
>>218180472>NTA, but I would say it had potential in that I liked the setting it teased,The setting was a complete mess.
