Why are the empire after the village? Well, the crops they grow are super special and only grow here, they can't plant them elsewhere. They are needed for special medicine that keeps their leaders alive or they need it for super-serum for their soldiers or something. There, that's why the empire is so interested in a small village and why they don't just take over the place.

Why is the hero flying to other planets to find one person that she hopes will join her? The hero needs to find some people who will stand up to the empire. Luckily she was in some kind of special forces mercenary unit some years ago, or she briefly encountered them and hid them or fought with them, and she saved them all so they all owe her a favor. She's cashing in by making them join her.
There, that's why she flies around and convinces people to fight the empire with her.

Never conveys why we should give a shit if some stubborn farmers live or die. The "face" of the village, that the audience should focus on is some weak looking twerp that tags along to get the team going. I can't even recall a single line or even a thing this dude did. He's supposed to convey he's an everyman dude so we identify with him but the movie is too busy focusing on the gay villain and emaciated bogtella for this to ever matter. In fact if you omit that dude you lose nothing, and by extension nobody gives a shit about this village either. It has maybe two dozen people. They could've all packed up and went on a two week vacation and by the time they're back the gay villain would already be extorting grain out of some other location.

But it's Dune in a film based on 7 samurai with lightsabers, so it's not like the film has high standards to begin with.
As it is right now it's just fucking stupid that an empire would show so much interest in a small village and their corn. You'd think there was an easier way to get food than to fly to another planet and threaten a village with 40 people living in it, then leaving a couple of soldiers there for 10 weeks. This is apparently a setting where the empire has plenty of time, fuel and manpower, but they are sorely lacking grain.
Why the fuck is this such a big deal? It seems so stupid that this village with their grain is the entire issue that needs to be resolved. They could have made the evil leader a petty young son desperate to prove himself - the village insults him or laughs when he falls into a pond or something and he lashes out by taking their grain.

And it might be "getting the band back together" but it's still better than this half-assed shit we got in the film. They go looking for someone to join them, you know, as you do in this kind of situation. They meet a smuggler who says "oh, I know of one guy, a prisoner, he's on another planet but he's cool so why don't we track him down? Sure, they say, not like we've got any other plans. Let's just assume that this guy wants to help us and that we can find him. Wow, lucky us, we stumbled upon a kickass woman with lightsabers along the way and she wants to risk her life helping us out!
It's so utterly aimless. They just go to and through, gathering up individuals like it's an RPG video game. But they're actually aiming for that one disgraced general. Surely he'll drop whatever he's doing to risk his life defending this tiny village.

All I'm asking is for some decent explanations and reasons for things to happen. This is just Snyder making a bunch of "cool" scenes and loosely stringing them together which results in a shitty film.

I do not agree in the slightest. His attempted themes and motifs are almost comically literal and surface level. He seems to believe that copying an image automatically imbues the shot with the meaning of the original, be it a painting he saw, another film (which he frequently cribs way too blatantly from) or a comic book cover, since I'm uncertain he's ever read a comic outside of Dark Knight Returns, so you just get constant visual recreations of things presented to you, mixed with characters posing. It gets old. Really old. Especially when between his storyboard poses, his direction actually often feels rather clumsy, contrary to all the "he's SUCH a good director just needs a writer" talk, his blocking out scenes often has actors looking aimless as they wander from pose to pose.

NTA, but I would say it had potential in that I liked the setting it teased, a gritty (though not fully grimdark) space opera somewhere between Dune, Star Wars and 40k. Star Wars is ruined, Dune has been done, 40k is not coming.
The look was good, the sense of scale and some of 40k inspired costumes.
But the story and writing in general was atrocious.
That is Snyder's main issue: he is good at making things look epic, but he is a horrible writer. There is a reason his best movies are based on graphic novels where he basically just had to pic the best panels and recreate them with humans he could then paint over.

It honestly did though. It's a ripoff of some much better things, sure, but a lot of other things are too. some of the character archetypes were great, the world stolen from WH40k etc. was good too, in general the designs were good but he just isn't human so he doesn't understand anything.

For example, why does the pagan village have to have sexual orgies? Sure, they did this back in the day, but not in such a tiny community and not if you want to sell them as "le morally good oppressed peoples", but since he's il autismo incarnato he doesn't understand how this will look to a normal person in current year.
