It's anecdotal but very telling that Żuławski, who came back home in that decade, managed to make one film and was immediately told to fuck off by the authorities. He tried to take multiple projects off the ground during the 20 years he had left and was always rejected. His Cosmos, an adaptation of a work by a famous Polish writer, had to be rewritten in French and shot in Portugal. Even the reds were more sympathetic towards him, and they put a stop to his biggest film.
