Why'd you guys tell me Red Dawn was unrealistic? This kicks ass
>>
it does kick ass, but a few high school kids with no training taking out half the Red Army does seem a little unrealistic
>>
>>218184200
These were '80's kids raised by Vietnam vets.
>>
>>218184200
it's a movie

>few high school kids with no training taking out half the Red Army
Is it really? I mean, just take a look at how Russia is performing in their "3 days" Special Operation in Ukraine.
>>
>>218184173
I first saw this flick on TV when I was a teenager. In the mid-'00s. So I was watching it in the context of Iraq and Afghanistan being fought at the time. And the movie felt subversive. Like, they're called 'insurgents' throughout. And I don't think I'd ever heard that word not being used in reference to Afghans or Iraqis before. It felt like that role-reversal was commentary. Sympathising. Like that Immortal Technique I probably listened to around the same time:

>They say the rebels in Iraq still fight for Saddam
>But that's bullshit, I′ll show you why it's totally wrong
>Cuz if another country invaded the hood tonight
>It'd be warfare through Harlem, and Washington Heights
>I wouldn′t be fightin′ for Bush or White America's dream
>I′d be fightin' for my people′s survival and self-esteem

And I knew the movie was made in the '80s. So, before the current context I was watching with. So, I assumed it was commentary on Vietnam then. Like, turning small town football players into the VC. Feels like an anti-Vietnam war hippie statement. But, learning about John Milius and his views since then. I can't imagine that was his intention at all.
>>
>>218184173
A good rule of thumb for taking advice from /tv/ is to assume everyone is lying and do the opposite of what they say
>>

You are nice and you're mum is a saint
>>
>>218184173
It's because the movie expects us to believe that marxists are trying to take over the U.S. Silly fantasism.
>>
>>218184389
thanks to NATO "volunteers" and all of Europe's missiles, not some Ukrainian teenagers
>>
>>218184173
reminder that the soviets were furious about this movie and bitched to DC and their favorite commies in hollywood and got John Milius blacklisted
>>
>>218184389
Ukraine? You mean New Khazaria?
>>
>>218184389
ztards and shitskins seethed at this one
>>
>>218186469
Hey man, cool it with the racism, Ukraine is a NATO ally and we at NAFO support diversity.

Also I'm trans.
>>
>>218184389
Redditors, with their narrative about the le plucky Ukrainians, have basically doomed that country to destruction. Good work guys I hope you're happy.
>>
>>218186469
This is getting to be the worst sort of post on the website. Zero cleverness.
>>
>>218186554
genuinely feel bad for ukrainian citizens
their country is destroyed, their government taken over by foreigners, and they will eventually be run by either the EU or the russians
they don't deserve any of that
>>
>>218186593
Why not?
>>
>>218184618
It's weird how people on the left raged about this movie when it came out and still do, largely because of Millius' well known right wing slant, claiming it was glorifying war and it was some chud fantasy when in reality the movie was actually incredibly anti-war.
The whole point of the movie is how the war destroys the innocence and eventually the lives of this group of teenagers.
It should have been hailed by Hollywood for its message
>>
Isn't non combatants taking part in combat against the Hague Conventions? They don't seem to be in proper uniform.

because they have no control over their country, their men are kidnapped and enslaved and sent off to die and the women have been trafficked all over the world and aren't going ever to go back
it's a broken nation and it was broken by foreigners fighting over control of it

>their "3 days" Special Operation

When was this ever stated? This gives off the same vibes as the appropriation of the "2 weeks more" phrase which was used to satirise the ever-extending lockdowns, their end always being postponed for two weeks later for 3 months.
>>
>>218186806
That's cart before horse. Why didn't they deserve it in the first place?
>>
>>218186819
Let this be a lesson to Hollywood Jewesses: do not get the nose job. You may think you're doing the right thing, but won't make you fit in, and you'll look uglier.
>>
>>218184389
Excellent ziggerbait anon, the BRICS shitskins and snowniggers are such low hanging fruit I almost feel bad.
>>
>>218184618
It was sponsored by the NRA and had, like the 80s in the usa in general, the 50s reimagined for the 3rd industrial revolution. It was a more up-to-date 50s propaganda movie, "the Day the Communists Invaded!"
>>
>>218186755
It was straight up anti-communist, anti-worker and pro-stay-behind paramilitary networks.
>>
>>218184173
Idk but Lea Thompson was super hot in this movie, probably the hottest she has ever been. It's kinda a shame she never made up with Charlie Sheen in the movie, it would have been nice to see them get together

>>
>>218187136
He worked a lot in the late 80s and 90s until he retired. Are you genuinely retarded or something?
>>
>>218186770
>Isn't non combatants taking part in combat against the Hague Conventions
Correct. They would be considered unlawful combatants, not afforded the same rights and privilege's of lawful combatants, and could legally be subject to execution.
>>
>>218187146
he worked on tv because he was pushed out of hollywood, thats a step down in the 80s/90s
>until he retired
he had a stroke

hollywood blacklisted commies in the 50s so its not outrageous to expect leftist hollywood execs to do the same thing to the other aisle decades later when they're in power instead
>inb4 there's no such thing as official blacklists so blacklisting isnt real
>>
>>218187194
Again, just because you didn't watch Farewell to the King does not mean he was banned from working on Hollywood movies

>I've been blacklisted for a large part of my career because of my politics—as surely as any writer was blacklisted back in the 1950s. It's just that my politics are from the other side, and Hollywood always veers left.
No one said he was banned.

How did USSR conquer Europe?
>>
>>218188610
It's mentioned in the movie that only the United Kingdom joins the war. The rest of Europe sits it out.
>>
>>218188610
they didn't. Western Europe was neutral in the war except for the UK.
>>
>>218187254
>>218187309
Blacklisting means you don't get to work in Hollywood anymore
Milius always had work in Hollywood, and especially still had work in Hollywood post-Red Dawn
>>
>>218187429
The intro music by Basedilis Poledouris was used as the theme for a computer magazine television advertisement in Greece in the 90s

Good. Let the mutts take care of their own trash. But in reality Europe would and could not be passive in such a conflict.
>>
>>218188754
The speculated casus-belli in-universe is that the USSR wanted the United States' agricultural land.
Which doesn't make sense, IMO.
>>
>>218186453
> New Khazaria?

Well poisoning made up because they think you are stupid
>>
>>218186755
That anti-war messaging was not the intent. Millius 100% was intending to create a chud fantasy that every fat boomer has and inadvertently created an anti-war and sort of anti-American imperialism movie. As >>218184618 said.
>>
>>218188736
They didn't get to do anything above board between 1947 and 1960 when the ban was de facto lifted, yes
They certainly didn't get to immediately start writing and directing another movie with their own name on it

public will be fed lies, proxy war kept going til it's a zombie husk propped up with foreign arms, country gutted - resources stripped, land sold off to mega-conglomerate, people replaced by third world immigrants.

Everyone that I know who grew up with this movie always remembers the scene where the ruskies immediately went to the sporting goods store to see who owned guns.
