The second half is the biggest pleb filter in history
>>
>so butthurt in the other thread he made a thread about it
lol
>>
>>218186187
Just admit you’re a pleb
>>
>>218186159
The problem is that the first half is unforgettable, one of the finest hours in cinema history and it's followed up by soldiers just wandering around in the second half. It's tonal whiplash, an inherent flaw.
>>
>>218186226
Pleb.
Maybe stick to tiktok
>>
>>218186159
it's objectively bad on your first watch, I liked it on my second and third.
>>
>>218186187
OP BTFO
>>
Kubrick’s bizarre refusal to ever leave England objectively hurt the latter half of his career. The production teams were forced to work around having to use the surrounding London area locations no matter what the setting of the film was.

Lowpass filter though.
>>
>>218186226
Agreed. Maybe this is just my autism talking, but the scenes that are supposed to look like a battlefield in Vietnam are not convincing. Kubrick is such a detailed perfectionist about everything else yet I feel like he does a poor job selling cold, gray England exterior shots as Vietnam. His never working outside the UK quirk is tiresome.
>>
The fist half is so good and watchable it makes you think if Kubrick could have just made fun pleb friendly his entire career
>>
>>218186226
This. The second half isn't bad in itself but it can't help but seem terrible and underwhelming compared to the mind blowing kino of the first half.
>>
>>218186226
Thats literally the point though? The explosive exciting beginnings of war followed by the haze and confusion of prolonged engagement? Everything in the second half is basically the shellshock and processing of it
>>
I hate /tv/, there’s not one kinoseaur in this whole board. There’s something basically wrong with that
>>
I hate them singing the mickey mouse song at the end
It feels very proto-reddit
>>
>>218186568
Neither you or OP have actually explained why you consider the second half of FMJ to be a 'pleb filter'.
>>
RIP Handjob
Tough break
He was Section 8, just waiting for his paperwork to clear division
>>
it's kinda too on the nose though with the whole Jung dualism thing when they drive the point with Joker telling the Officer about his hat.
1st and 2nd half are supposed to be their two selves or wtvr. Animal Mother is the "reborn" Private Pile and the other ones I can't remember I'm sleepy
>>
>>218186607
Yeah that’s the point, Americans are plebbit coded
>>
>>218186548
No, you can't have a reasonable take with around these fucking broccoli headed faggots.
>>
>>218186688
Where are you from?
>>
>>218186715
Vietnam
>>
A lot of anons in this thread talk the talk but do they walk the walk?
>>
>>218186724
Too cowardly to answer honestly as usual. This is why your kind fears flags being added to all boards. You know you’ll be unfairly discriminated against based on something you can’t control. Sweet, sweet irony.
>>
>>218186159
>>218186619
the second half was made by an assistant director who joined late on into the project. he wasn't even given a script, and so just made a generic vietnam film with a couple of shooty scenes.
kubrick had left the project after a disagreement with the catering company over the quality of the custard tarts.
>>
These are great days we're living, bros. We are jolly green giants
>>
>>218186226
the first half is what normies think the military is, the second half is what it actually is
>>
>>218187327
The second half is blatantly filmed nowhere near anywhere that resembles Vietnam, much like Canada doubling for American cities always sticks out like a sore thumb.
>>
>>218187374
Ok and?
>>
>>218187449
And that’s why people don’t like the second half as much. There’s no mystery here.
>>
>>218187374
looks like Hue to me.
>>
>>218187477
No it doesn’t. Kubrick should’ve been shamed way more for his autistic refusal to leave London.
>>
>>218187466
>>218187374
Second half looks like an urban assault, which Vietnam had a bunch of, and few if any of the soldiers and marines had any training for. It seems most people actually don't like the second half because the first half is rapid fire, with a lot of humor and mean words, while the second half is chaotic without the classic expectation of some heroic stand or action to save the day like John Wayne killing japs in Iwo Jima.

So yeah, like anon said - it's what military actually is and normies can't handle it

Here ya go dude, it does indeed look like Hue city, which is what they are portraying.
>>
>>218187539
Blah blah blah. They were forced to do it that way because Kubrick was a weirdo and refused to film anywhere but England. If you won’t do that, don’t make a fucking Vietnam was movie.
>>
the only part I don't like is when they are talking to the news crew, it's too on the nose
>>
>>218187596
Why do you keep saying 'hue'? Isn’t that a Brazilian thing? How does that relate to Vietnam?
>>
>>218187568
wait are you upset the CITY OF HUE doesn't have enough jungle for you?
>>
>>218187597
So you are upset your lack of understanding on the actual warfare of Vietnam, urban battles, cities, suburbs, and civilization that existed there, jars with your idea that they are in some jungle the whole fucking time?

Are you a retard, or is your knowledge of The Vietnam war solely from Forrest Gump?
>>
>>218187640
>oh boy, so glad they finally depicted urban Vietnam!

Said no one ever. Kino jungle settings or GTFO
>>
>>218187539
>it's what military actually is and normies can't handle it

I couldn’t care less about that, it doesn’t make for a particularly engaging film. FMJ would be considered one of Kubrick’s weaker entries if R Lee Ermey hadn’t hard carried the first half.
>>
>>218187672
Ah, so you got filtered for the reasons pointed out by >>218187539
>>218187327

Go watch some John Wayne movies if you want your hollywood warfare.

No, I rightfully don’t, because it fucking sucks and it’s boring looking.
>>
>>218187640
This retard is upset that a film about what war does to humans isn't enough like his little green army men and videogames. Nobody on /tv/ has any interest in television or film. Arguing with these retards is pointless. I think you should go outside for a walk or something similarly constructive.

>>
>>218187615
All the vietnam scenes looks as though it was filmed somewhere cold and overcast like london. nothing about it looks right. it was a bad choice to film it in uk.
it's not as horrible as grandpa deniro in the irishman but it's a flub nonetheless.

the first half is so boring i couldn’t get to the 2nd. kubrick does not get dialogue unless it has a murderous undertone.

it's more sloppy than FMJ, but I feel like The Boys From Company C is genuinely more subversive in the end. FMJ feels like a loose remake of it in its stucture.

>>
>>218190494
That's what basic training does. It removes your sense of empathy. You can't win a war with empathy. To you, they are no longer women and children. One colludes with the enemy and the other are future combatants. It makes sense but it's still horrible. If you didn't think they would do the same to us, you're kidding yourself

Yes, but it’s not fully intentional. They had to make do with what they had available to them in England since the director refused to shoot it in a more appropriate location.
