Just like the X-files was great in the 90s. Doesn't really hold up now.

>It was the 80s.
Yeah back in the 80s, being a snarky douche nozzle was still a novel idea.
That's how bill murray basically coasted his entire career on doing nothing but making this face, and gen X creamed their pants over it.

I guess I can understand it in that I don't get 1970s Saturday Night Live humor. Does nothing for me. Or the Carol Burnett show. I'm sure it was great in it's time, just not now. Boomer humor. It flat, uneventful, boring.

No dice, I've seen how Millennials went gaga over Bill Murray playing as Bill Murray in a bunch of Wes Anderson movies. Also, fuck the Chive.

Probably because this movie is sincere and you've been meta irony-pilled to death.

What's the matter faggo, need the characters pausing mid-sentence and looking at the screen in awkward silence so you know when to laugh? Not quirk chungus enough for you?

This is the closest to reality ITT. The truth is that the window of humor changes as we go onwards, good humor is always on the line between good taste and bad taste. It pushes the envelope of what people are allowed to say without elliciting that knee-jerk 'You're an ism!' reaction from normal, sane people.

Because the window of what's acceptable has changed, a lot of the old humor is no longer funny because it in no way pushes the window of what's acceptable today, we passed those lines decades ago. What's funny today is racism, antisemitism and noticing things you're not supposed to notice, because those are the lines left to be pushed on.

>"Meta" originates from Greek, meaning "beyond," "after," or "behind," and now commonly refers to something that is self-referential, analytical, or "about" itself (e.g., metadata is data about data).
Fuck both of you with this gay shit.
>>
>>218189423
The -ism reaction doesn't come from sane people.
>>
>>218189496
I know that, that's why I said it doesn't come from normal, sane people.

Naked gun and Mr. Bean are both incredibly funny. That's timeless humor.

>>

that makes no sense. fags LOVE this movie.
>>
>>218189446
So language never changes with time or across cultures? I don't know why meta is used to mean "about" and not "beyond" in English but it is.

Language is fluid.
I harken back to etymologies.
>"Meta-" originates from the Greek preposition metá (μετά), meaning "after," "beside," "with," or "beyond". While originally denoting succession or change (as in metamorphosis), it evolved through philosophical usage (notably Aristotle's Metaphysics,, meaning "after physics") to signify a higher, transcendent, or self-referential level of analysis, such as in metadata or metatheory.
Alright.
>>
>>218189714
Condolences. Sorry for your family's loss.
>>
>>218189752
It really not. It's makes no sense. It's aimless and pointless and disconnected with reality. It's just fucking dumb. Kind of like the 1980s.
If he had said something like HAS NO BALLS, that would make METAphorical sense. But no. Ha ha fucking so random 1980s humor. Dick. It's flat and boring.
>>
>>218189407
Most 80s movies WERE sincere. That's why they are so good.

>>218189446
Even worse, when people talk about "meta gaming" or "the meta"...
>>
>>218188794
It was never intended to be a comedy. In the 80's there were movies made to be inbetween genre's. GB is a mix of fantasy scifi horror and comedy.
In the movie it was more of a suspense/comedy/horror. You were at the edge of your seat, didn't know what to expect, and were terrified or laughed occasionally

Thank you for articulating that. It definitely was part horror. Ghosts and hauntings weren't even debunked back then.
We hadn't yet collectively decided as a culture that ghosts weren't a thing yet. The minds watching back then we're of a different psychology. They had an entirely different world view.

>>
>>218188794
like the other anon said it's meant to be more entertaining than funny. It paved the way for combining comedy with big budget special effects movies. You wouldn't have Men in Black, The Mummy, or Guardians of the Galaxy without Ghostbusters.
>>
>>218188856
People back then liked to point and laugh at nerds. Harold Ramis, Dan Akroyd, and Rick Moranis' characters were all massive nerds of comical proportions by 1980s standards. Keep in mind that Revenge of the Nerds came out that same year. These days the nerd phenotype is embraced if not celebrated

>i really don't find it that funny
And that's why ghostbusters is dead. Just because it had some SNL guys they think they made a comedy, but there are only a handful of actual jokes. It's a paranormal-sci fi-adventure- horror movie. So the second movie was made with kids toys in mind, rather than actually continuing the paranormal story.
>>
The 2016 version is unironically the funniest. Watching the over the top woke shenanigans was very amusing, also that gorilla ape who got her asshole posted online is the butt of every joke

I never watched this movie as a comedy as a kid. I didn't even know it was considered a major comedy film until I got older. I thought it was just a fun movie where they fight ghosts and monsters, and I liked Ghostbusters 2 as well for that reason.
