>The project began as a made-for-television film directed by Michael Apted and starring Hart Bochner as Dracula. Drew Barrymore and Juliette Lewis were considered for Mina Murray before Winona Ryder was cast. She presented the script to Francis Ford Coppola as an apology after scheduling conflicts forced her to drop out of “The Godfather Part III”, and he decided to direct it for a theatrical release, keeping Apted as a producer.>Daniel Day-Lewis was the original choice for Dracula, but he declined. Nicolas Cage, Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Viggo Mortensen, Antonio Banderas, Andy Garcia, Gabriel Byrne, Rupert Everett, Jeremy Irons and Alan Rickman were considered before Gary Oldman was cast.>The studio demanded a heartthrob as Jonathan Harker to appeal to the female audience. Coppola wanted Ryder’s then-boyfriend Johnny Depp, but the studio pushed for a bigger name. Christian Slater was approached, but declined claiming he’d only be interested in playing Dracula. Charlie Sheen, William Baldwin, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth tested before Keanu Reeves was cast.>Liam Neeson was in early talks to play Abraham Van Helsing, but when Anthony Hopkins expressed interested fresh off his Oscar win for “The Silence of the Lambs”, the studio immediately offered him the part.>Laura Dern was approached for Lucy Westenra, but declined due to the script’s sexual content. Madchen Amick and Alyssa Milano tested before Coppola cast Sadie Frost after watching her in a play. She had declined to audition as she believed her physical resemblance to Ryder would rule her out, and received an “introducing” credit despite having already appeared in six films before.>Steve Buscemi was the original choice for Renfield, but was unavailable, so Tom Waits was cast. Ian Dury was also considered.>Colin Firth also tested for Arthur Holmwood before Cary Elwes was cast.>William Baldwin also tested for Quincy Morris before Billy Campbell was cast.
>>218194533>>Steve Buscemi was the original choice for Renfieldinspiredhas he ever really done anything creepy or horror?
>>218194533Oldman was great as Dracula. Reeves and Ryder were shit.
>>218194533>Nicolas Cage, Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Viggo Mortensen, Antonio Banderas, Andy Garcia, Gabriel Byrne, Rupert Everett, Jeremy Irons and Alan RickmanDamn, all kino choices in their own way.
>>218194533>Christian Slater was approached, but declined claiming he’d only be interested in playing Dracula. What an idiot.
Hopkins was the only one who was good in this movie. Elwes was okay. This cast would have been amazing for the Luc Besson version that just came out since it had a goofier tone overall yet still did the ending better.
>>218194533>Daniel Day-Lewis was the original choice for DraculaThe Turks should be thankful. DDL would've method acted himself a new crusade.>>218194587>has [Steve Buscemi] ever really done anything creepy or horror?I think every role he's ever had was creepy.
>>218194533Wow this sure is timely, thanks for the update OP.it’ll come in super handy when I audition for a role in this movie, you fuck.
>>218196115>This anon didn't suck dick in Hollywood hard enough.

>>218196923>>218198597He wasn't a star then, and Columbia didn't see the potential in him, lol.

Hugh Grant as Jonathan would have worked. The character is a dork in the book
>>218199566Depp had just done Edward Scissorhands, they didn't see the potential in him? Retards
>>218194533>Laura Dern was approached for Lucy Westenra, but declined due to the script’s sexual content....and nothing of value was lost.Either they had a massive re-write of the script or she is the most frigid prude in Hollywood. It has suggestive and even mildly saucy moments, but these are hardly on a parr with other films of the time, like Basic Instinct or older British shot films like The Hammer Horror, Carry On, and Confessions films. The spiciest bits were probably not even mentioned in the script itself; its hardly going to say "Mina runs down the steps with her dress plastered to her body like skin, while her awesome tits bounce about" in the script or "her dress is totally seethrough because of the back-lighting, and if you're handy with the pause button you might see the silhouette of a nipple". Lucy wasn't really involved in much sexy stuff, just got a bit lusty at best, and that really doesn't stick inthe mind when you had peak Winona right there, its like the movie equivalent of picrel meme. They could have had Lucy doing Emma Stone level sex acts on screen and nobody would even remember as everyone would be thinking of Mina's jiggly tits.
>>218199918Usually are.>However, Francis Ford Coppola admitted, “The studio thought he wasn’t enough of a star. I was so embarrassed.” Instead, the director asked Ryder who she thought the studio would prefer, and she named Reeves. https://screenrant.com/dracula-1992-jonathan-harker-actors-almost-cast-keanu-reeves/
>>218200046Lucy and Mina have a lesbian kiss, maybe she's just not into that
>>218194533>Madchen Amick and Alyssa Milano tested before Coppola
>>218194587He did all those Adam Sandler movies
>>218196115Newfag or just retarded?
