How the fuck do you turn this shit into live action?
Very carefully.
I don't know but more importantly who would write the screenplay and who would direct? wouldn't it have been neat if Jodorowsky did manage to make Dune? surely he'd be great for God Emperor specifically
>>218194879You don’t. They’re going to stop at dune messiah.
>>218194919horrific image, the god emperor would be better represented by a smug pepe
>>218194879Leto’s design makes or breaks it. Personally, I’d go with one of the creepier designs where most of his torso is still visible, but is generally concealed inside the sandworm’s mouth. A smart director would make this a shock reveal fairly early on, and incorporate a little Wizard of Oz razzledazzle where he uses some form of amplification to disguise his small, perfectly human voice.
>>218195044gotta make leto the big clit in the worm mouthpussy
>>218194879Just don't go past Children. I finished reading the first trilogy two days ago and I was quite disappointed overall.
>>218194879Why would I want that? And honestly the format of the novel means you'd have to take some pretty big liberties for a movie that is weird and so far disconnected from DUDE SPICE LMAO! that its going to turn off the casual audience.
We aren't going to see it unless it's a sight into the future.>>218194932BingoThe worm shit doesn't happen until later and not to Paul.
>>218194919>wouldn't it have been neat if Jodorowsky did manage to make Dune? surely he'd be great for God Emperor specificallywhy?
>>218195414>a movie that is weird and so far disconnected from DUDE SPICE LMAO!what's the book about?
>>218194879With sincerity. That's always the answer.Every single "unadaptable" property becomes adaptable if you just have someone competent and passionate.
>>218195492leto monologing that trillions must die for 400 pages
>>218195351This desu.
>>218195351that looks good actually but they should take some liberty to design a giant worm person and not just do the book face on a worm
>>218195492The whole book is selections from Leto II's personal journal covering his last days. His dad paul fucked off into the desert to try and escape the burden of prescience, because he was born a human, and refused to sacrifice his humanity to do what needed to be done, and by letting the cup pass he pretty much doomed his Son to having to pick up the mantle. Leto II and his twin sister were pre-born, meaning they were born with all the genetic memory of their male/female bloodlines respectively. Leto II see's the golden path, a way to save the entire human species from extinction at some point in the future. This necessitates him becoming a human-sandworm hybrid, and he spends the next few thousand years ruling the universe with an iron fist while he becomes more of a monstrosity. Through his enforced peace and tranquility over thousands of years he forced the human race to develop a psychic reflex against anyone promising peace and tranquility at the expense of self determinism. He also takes over the breeding program of the BG to create a gene that makes a person invisible to prescience. His keikaku is to create a situation where humans are able to kill a god, and to become immune to a future kwisatz haderach doing what paul did.
>>218194932Give it a decade or so, they'll come back for Children and God Emperor.
>>218194879Just have fun and don't take it too seriously.
>>218194879Scaled down sandworm, proportions like a Centaur. A gradient from Argyria blue (cobalt around the head) to book-sand oranges on a mostly humanoid upper torso; light berber blue opalescent eyes that glow, with spice-red glint around bloodshot rims thereof-- the hands should be pale bordering on transluscent, like deep sea creatures, with the veins beneath strobing with spice light blues flecked with red. Frightening snake-fast acceleration, like a crocodile sprinting on land. There should be faint blue mist when breathing that lingers unnaturally longer that breath would in the cold., and sink rather than rise. Sandworm larvae should be consuming the skin sheds, which change colour according to age from light blue/green to yelow-orange and then red, strew around the throne room-- only a token couple of large ones should be on his body, like remoras on a shark.
>>218195686This acts like the story is actually about Leto. Most of the the book is the Duncan ghola, Moneo, or Siona.
>>218195686and then he gets bazooka'd at his own wedding to a 10/10 blonde bimbo and falls into his greatest weakness (water) and instantly diesand yes it's the best novel in the series>>218195044God Emperor has the benefit of two "plot twists", the first is at the very beginning when you're off of Children of Dune expecting Leto II to have ushered in this glorious age of peace and prosperity and it turns out he's become a horrible monster dictator oppressing mankind like none ever has before, Arrakis is now a lush green forest planet. From then on you may as well be Duncan Idaho who is basically a stand-in for the reader, who is forced to go "what the FUCK happened here? this is nothing like I remember"and then the second twist is the revelation that humanity has evolved, and while Duncan was the absolute height of human physicality in his time, a warrior poet hunk in perfect shape, he is now way behind them, when Moneo the servant completely manhandles him. Now Idaho realizes the truth - his dreams of breaking away and fixing shit are gone. He is basically a goldfish, a kept pet, sex slave to the Fish Speakers, a canary kept alive only out of boredom.
MONEOOOO
>>218195165god emperor of dune is the best book though
>>218195492Just bringing the golden path to fruition. At the end of Children Leto lets the sand worms latch on to him, making himself a human-worm hybrid. Time skip thousands of years, Leto is now more worm than man. He killed all the worms and controls all the spice. He had to call a mulligan on his dad’s jihad so it was done right this time, thanks to that he’s got the entire galaxy under his rule. He knows he’s not immortal, but compared to everyone else it doesn’t matter, he also reveals he’s got a weakness to lasguns to the face. There’s a “rebellion” being done by some far off relative, but Leto is actually puppeteering the whole thing and grooming her to rule for when he pulls a Jesus Christ at the end of the book to prove to everyone he’s really not a god, but has put humanity on the golden path. There’s some half assed attempt on his life somewhere in the middle, and then the Ixians send him a mega babe he can’t resist. They literally genetically engineer him a waifu so they can assassinate him. When he dies he tells Duncan and his niece or whatever that he gave them, and maybe all of humanity, I can’t remember, the ability to hide from prescient voyeurs like him now. Cool guy. Other cool shit: He bans space travel just to fuck with the Guild. Duncan keeps being revived as a gholas, living out his lives as living experiments, and occasional stud, for Leto over the millennia. Arrakis gets terraformed into a paradise except for his desert palace, he can’t leave because he’s deadly allergic to water. He has a floating, shielded, pope-mobile to transport his fat slug ass around. He’s got genetically engineered wolves he uses to chase people through the woods. Also, it’s like 50 pages of stuff happening, and 400 of a weird worm demigod sitting in his palace waxing philosophical on the cyclical nature of humanity he’s witnessed over his lifetime, so we’re never getting a (good) movie
>look up GEOD reviews on youtube>only 1 or 2 cute women have reviewed itwell that sucks
>>218194879Easily if you're bold
>>218195494This>>218195749Not thisA good example is Speed Racer, they played that movie straight and it was wonderful, you have to not be embarrassed by your source material
>>218196036I was indifferent on my first read through but on my second it became my favorite Dune book, and I've read all of them.
>>218194879>How the fuck do you turn this shit into live action?Make it a comedy.
>>218196128Denis doesn't have the respect for the materialEarly promotional material for DUNC was all, "Denis begged for this project! He's a huge Dunehead just like you!" but the finished project shows he either doesn't care or was powerless to stop the studios from interferingLiet-Kynes was character assassination, plain and simple. They removed key elements of the story like Thufir, in fact the entire concept of being a Mentat is reduced to Thufir getting glossy eyes and humming, and NO I didn't see the films. Why the fuck would I waste the time to do that? No mention of Piter being a Mentat, no mention of PAUL being one? What the fuck are we doing NOW? The entire idea of him being prepared even a little bit for the overwhelming prescience and mental calculation required of him was that he was raised as a Mentat. What a fucking missed opportunity.I don't expect a perfect adaptation of the dinner party scene, I understand it's unfilmable. I don't expect a proper adaptation of Lady Jessica reading secret Bene Gesserit braille on a leaf left there by the previous Bene Gesserit to warn her of an impending threat on her family, it's too hard to film, I get it! But some things you either make sure are in, or you accept that you just got tricked into making "Girlboss Zendaya and TimCham Action Romance, and Who Cares What the Plot of the Book Is"
something i still remember is leto's giant worm body flying off his cart and crushing one of the duncans
This version would look great and memorable and freaky
>>218195466The only people who say this shit just look at the concept art, which is admittedly good, but Jodorowsky wanted to completely change the story. It would have been Dune in name only.
>>218195764god DAMNyall spend more time thinking about the color on a made up worm than about the black bodies dropping every damn dayfuck wrong with yall?
>>218195686Ok, but what’s this thing that he’s terrified of, the Krizalic?
>>218196737Mostly a melanin deficiency. It has a substantial effect on cognition.
>>218194879If they can pull of Thanos, they can pull off this.
>>218194879I think you almost have to, at this bleak point in film, hide him for most of it. You show him being overtaken by the sand trout, then it's all dark close-ups until he leaves to go on his final journey. You can do very motivated glimpses of his true form, but it's all very obscured until that point.
>>218195492Its the Code Geass finale but with worms.
>>218195813>Most of the the book is the Duncan ghola,Why is he back again in what I assume are several thousands of years later? He died in Children.
it will be the ultimate normgroid filtering moment
>>218197818Because Dunc got it right. Idaho is the arch MC of the whole fucking story.
>>218197818In the later books, everyone keeps getting brought back DBZ style. Except instead of magic balls it's cloning/memory implant technology, so it might as well be magic balls.
>>218197909>>218197932Sounds retarded.
>>218194879I would cast a big worm to play the role
>>218197941Because it is. And this (Dune as a whole) is considered by some to be the greatest science fiction ever written. Up there with LotR, some going as far as saying comparable with the Classics.
>>218194879Let the Sci-Fi Channel miniseries crew take a shot at it again.
>>218198242
>>218198253
>>218197818The Tielaxu keep sending Leto II duncans, Dunan is the ultimate atreides, and Leto likes having him around because he uses him as a bellweather for how much of his humanity was left. Duncan is the only constant character through all of the books. He keeps getting cloned, and since he was the fist ghola who had his memories awakened they get really good at doing it. >>218197932Thats only in the shitty KJA/Brian Herbert books. in Frank's books the only person who gets brought back is Duncan and then Teg in the last book. But he dies at the end of one book, and is a babby ghola in the prologue of the next book.
>>218196011But somehow Duncan is even stronger in chapterhouse Or am I getting him mixed up with miles teg? It's been so long.
>>218199172Duncan eventually becomes a sort of KW because he has the memories of thousands of Duncans or something
>>218197197thanos is just a giant purple dude, the hardest part honestly was getting his face right, making him look like an alien raisin but not a california raisinleto II is a whole other can of worms pun intended
dunclet here, I have a question about paul and foresightwhen he becomes the kwisatz haderach he can see the past and future through genetic foresight right, and I understand seeing the past, but how does seeing the future worklike does that mean he can see multiple possibilities into the future or he knows specific events that his future descendants knows, and if its the latter whats stopping him from altering said future
>>218194932This. God Emperor of Dune contradicts too much leftist Hollywood ideology for them to ever adapt it or attempt to.
>>218199484Wrong.>AI and drones will eventually kill us all>All women armies are more loyal and stable >The worst most powerful dictator that ever existed can be beaten by a sweet blonde girl because he seethes over not being able to have sex with her>"This wise man observed that wealth is a tool of freedom. But the pursuit of wealth is the way to slavery."Rightoids BTFO
>>218194986
>>218199786>dune pepeNow that's what I call quite good.
>>218199456He knows the past because he has the lived experiences of ALL his ancestors. He sees the future because of prescience from spice. Though it's not necessarily *the* future. You can see all sorts of different paths the future could go down. The problem with Paul is (spoilers for Dune Messiah) he only looks down one of those paths.Spacing guild navigators use spice prescience to see into the future to find a safe way through space without going through a supernova, etc.
god emperor of dune is the worst book i've ever read
>>218199912filtered
>>218197017Krzilec is a metaphor for another Leto-II equivalent prescient trying to take over the universe with prescient war machines Leto II avoids this by breeding humanity to be invisible to prescience
>>218194879the most overrated novel EVER I don't get why this garbage gets so much praise
>>218194879Same way Villeneuve already did: badly.
Easy, just make it DUNC and lame
My only knowledge of Dune comes from the DUNC movies and whatever leaked into general pop culture and shitDoes Paul become a giant worm/human hybrid?
>dictatorship is le bad!!!>anyway that's how leto saved humanity by being a massive dictator, yes, it's only way he could achieve that any other option would've led to a disasterherbert is a fucking hack, literally proving a classic propaganda trick (you may suffer today but your grand grand grandkids will live in a paradise so get back to work) right
>>218201019No, his son becomes that. He becomes the new Emperor with an army of strong women at his side.
>>218201072Mongrel, the message is exactly the opposite. A dictatorship promises paradise through dictatorship. In contrast, Leto uses dictatorship to oppress the fuck out of you. The growth happens only AFTER he dies, and serves as safeguard against anyone who tries to establish a dictatorship in the future. E.g. if we were on a golden path, following WW2, the whole world would have bombed the shit out of 31.0461° N, 34.8516° E on May 14, 1948.
>>218199484Does it? My only real takeaway from the book was “human survival at any cost”. Spread and fracture humanity so far and wide that they’ll never go extinct.
>>218194879
>>218199706Sounds like a kino movie.
>>218195764What the fuck is this shit?
>>218198262This is actually how the Weirding Way works in the books btw
>>218194879>focus more on side characters >say he speaks through some microphone embedded inside the worm >most just show the sand worm as looking like a regular sand worm>once or twice in the film do a close up of his upper torso /head being melded into the mouth of the sandworm
>>218198220Because it is. LOTR is a children's fairytale in comparison. Dune is one of the first examples of genre fiction being used as a vehicle for exploring historical and philosophical concepts that couldn't exist in the modern world. It's not perfect but it's certainly the more intelligent of the two.

>>218196018GO FIND THE DUNCAN STRETCHER
Putting the worm on screen is easy enough I say. It's the massive schizotech setting that is untranslatable.
you could go with something like doomsday titan he's this scary worm outside and its just inside he's a normal head
Why would his head be in the mouth?
Alternatively embed him in a worm like
>>218205578This is a pretty neat concept, that leto's vestigial human body appears to be seated inside the worm's mouth as if the worm itself is his throne, not his body.I mean I personally want them to lean all the way into the grotesque like >>218196588 but understand that normalfags would find it too icky.I mean I'm still annoyed that humans are batteries in the Matrix instead of the CPU like they intended cos normalfags wouldn't get it.
He could be a growth in the worm's mouth hehe
>>218206218>that leto's vestigial human body appears to be seated inside the worm's mouth as if the worm itself is his throneit's my preferred orientation for his face and arms because it makes sense of the scene where he carries siona through the desert tucked into the first ring of his worm-cowl.

>>218194879They wont, this book is unadaptable
>>218194879Whipping Star > Dune
>>218194879Basically impossible without missing the point. God Emperor is when Frank Herbert gave up on nuance and essentially just had Leto give eco-libertarian philosophy stump speeches loosely framed by a plot meant to transition to a new trilogy. You could probably squeeze some thematically coherent juice out of living life as a dictator being a uniquely dehumanizing and awful experience. But if the franchise is still profitable at that point you'll have too many retards with their hands in the pie that will shut that down for being problematic - instead they'll just do some lame shit about Leto being a wormcel seetheing his only sexual release is sitting in a metaphysical cuck chair during his ancestors sex memories.
>>218196353>the entire concept of being a Mentat is reduced to Thufir getting glossy eyesHonwstly, how else would you translate that into film? Jimmy Neutron style having a close up of gis brain working everytime he does a calculation?
>this threadMake him a giant clitoris. It’s what makes decisions anyway.
>>218198253>CW's Dune
Are the two last books, herectics and chapter house worth it? God emperor felt lile a good conclusion for the series, and for what It looks like the last 2 feel lile another series entirely
>>218195044They don't need to reveal his body until the end of the movie, just show his face and some ominous movement to give an idea of his scale. It's literally what he does in the book, he hides his body because it's gross and scares the fuck out of people. There's really no problem with 'he'd look goofy on screen', the real problem is you'd need people who can act and people who can write dialogue because it's not an action movie.
>>218194879>How the fuck do you turn this shit into live action? The Villeneuve way would be to somehow exclude the worm emperor from the story entirely, or make it so that he becomes a transworm purely in his mind. Making an actual humanoid worm emperor would give Villeneuve the ick because it's too Star Wars/Star Trek tier.
>>218203499For all the people shitting on his son, Brian at least understood one thing perfectly - that what made Dune popular as a setting are the Houses, the plotting and the politics, the mysticism hanging in the air, the vague supernatural elements etc., not the philosophical waxing and Frank's painfully obvious femdom fetish.

>>218213731I refuse to believe there is a person that enjoyed chapterhouse, reading that shit felt like homework
>>218199309The main strength of the Bene Gesserit and then later Kwisatz Haderachs is that they can draw on the experience of their ancestors. The whole reason the men would be stronger than the women is men actually do shit besides just scheme and complain so anyone that can access male memories is going to be capable of becoming an expert at pretty much everything.By the end of the series Duncan has the memories of thousands of his own lives programmed into his head. He doesn't need to be trained by ancestral memories because they're his own memories. All that has to happen is the realization that he can use all of that data and he is the most highly trained and experienced human in all of history, and that applies to every subject. He is better than everyone, at everything.
>>218213780I enjoyed the avenues to other memories and prescience stuff. The bloodlines of the bene gesserit, the tleilaxu and serial duncan lives, and then the super face dancer memory hoarders. The jews somehow? Also women.I dunno maybe he jumped the shark but I still enjoyed it so there ya go.

>>218213978no you retard, the Bene Gesserit only gain access to the direct female line which means they only get 1 ancestor per generation the KH gains access to both the female and male line which means they get an exponential increase in number of accessible ancestors per generation there's never any point in Dune about men being inherently better than women, if anything the Bene Gesserit were the ones actually advancing humanity while the more male dominated factions like the Tleilaxu were actively harming humanity
>>218207597They aren't bad but I kind of lost interest after God Emperor its basically a decent spot to the end the series

>>218194879All you need is 3 little figurines and the rest is easy peezy.
>>218214132You missed the point entirely.Women that can access past memories only use female memories, or they go insane because male psyches overpower their feeble female minds.Men get to use both male and female memories, meaning not only do they get exponentially more memories, they get memories from the women and the people that have actually contributed to society, IE men. Even if the KHs only got male memories they would be ahead of the Bene Gesserits. The male memories are worth more because men actually do shit. Sure there are occasional women that contribute to humanity but they are few and far between compared to men and that has always been the case. The Bene Gesserit, the strongest female force in galactic society, an all female combination of religion, school system, and secret society, have about the same amount of political power as the guys that take drugs until they mutate and fly spaceships, and significantly less hard power. The entire reason for the breeding program was that they knew they needed male versions of themselves to actually accomplish their long term goals.Just because Frank Herbert didn't spell out "LOL women are the dumbz!" doesn't mean he didn't know it was true, which is why any women that tries to go toe to toe with even just the memories of a man turns into an insane mess in the books. Alia lasting as long as she did was only because she was as close to a female KH as could be created from the Bene Gesserit breeding project, and she still only lasted for about a decade once she let the Baron got in her head.
>>218213731First one was harder than the 2nd just because of all the lore dumping
>>218207597Heretics is worth a read chapterhouse is kinda a shit ending.Herbert was sad about his wife dying and thats why it got so horny.
>>218214418except for the fact that men cannot access any memories without going insane, and the entire purpose of a KH is that it's man, but with the mental fortitude of a woman without women doing all the hard work and without being able to see the world from a female perspective men would be helpless
>>218214418As an addendum, the organization that comes the closest to taking over all of human society in the later books, and completely defeats and later subsumes the Bene Gesserit, are just a copy of the Bene Gesserit but made up of hot young sluttier women. The only way women come out on top long term in Dune is to become so hot and good at fucking that the men of society are willing to give the women whatever they want, including control of everything as long as they stay that hot and good at fucking.
>>218198262kek why does he even have a fight scene? at this point in the story he's already a god to these guys, he was cracking cisterns with his bare hands, he doesn't need to flip around he can crush their skulls between his fingers
>>218214648more like men are so weak willed they'll give up everything for a whiff of pussy
>>218214668No, the Honored Matres are canonically so good at fucking that men can become physically addicted to them.
>>218199456basically as an anon mentioned a key part of the book is that paul is a perfect trifecta of sorts, long before his exposure to extreme amounts of spicehe was raised as a mentat by thufir hawat, one of the best mentats everhe was raised as a bene gesserit secretly by his mother, so he has all of the emotional and physiological advantages, plus the Voiceremember that the Voice is not magical, it's analyzing in an instant what sort of intonation and command will cause your subject to act, based on subtle physiological traits, and altering your own body to produce any sound you can imagine, so this sort of goes hand in hand with mentat training, the extreme analytical brain power, and the two sort of feed off of each otherand he was raised in diplomacy and swordfighting by his father, Gurney Halleck, and Duncan Idaho, again probably the three best people in the universe to learn statesmanship and the sword fromthis makes him probably the person with the most potential ever BEFORE he got changed by the spice, which again, sort of informs or enhances at least the first two if not all threethe book never comes out and says spice makes you better at swordfighting but I think it's kind of impliedso paul was already used to thinking ten steps ahead, and having a million plans and backup plans, but the spice pushed his capability to think even more steps ahead, like a retarded amount, the spice is basically a hallucinogen at that saturation until you get used to itso think super coffee meets weed or somethingor the limitless pill, imagine if we gave Elon Musk the limitless pillsomeone who was already ahead mentally getting a huge boost furtherenter the kwissy swisshy, the bene gesserit's worst nightmare, their ultimate tool used against them
>>218199912have you only read one book? I'm struggling to think of a better one
>>218200228post your novel
>>218194919pretty sure the guy with the chops to adapt a ted chiang time travel linguistpunk first contact short could pull it together but he's the only one
>>218199456paul's son leto is superior
>>218204518>Danny Devito as Moneobut he acts like Frank from Always Sunny
>>218204716only to memelords like usI think the average normie reading GEoD (this doesn't happen) would think the big angry scary worm man crushing his friends to death and sending giant wolves to eat people just cuz is a bad guy. The ending is probably supposed to be another twist.
>>218205578this is a cool look but they outright say he has a pathetic limp little pair of legs dangling from his side, and Duncan even speculates that they could be a weakness, they look so patheticBy all means make him look like a Dark Souls boss for the normies, but I would almost prefer something grosser and more half-way between worm and man than something this cool.
>>218205870I already have no idea how Face Dancers are supposed to work on screen
Very easily, honestly. Resident Evil basically does this at least once in every game
>>218206106they did my girl so dirty>phyrexia is taking over everything, norm is unstoppable, all your favorite plainswalkers are dead or converted>new set drops>um yeah the phyrexians lost, here's some cool cards about itsuch a wet fart end to a story spanning like a decade
>>218206346>your """villain""" btw
>>218205578Personally, I think it would be even creepier if he *didn’t* look old and fucked up.
>>218207641It's not an action movie per say but I don't think it would be boring at all. Imagine a first time watcher, the weirdest thing you say through in Children was bio-engineered six-legged super tigers, or maybe a little boy being drugged into a days long acid trip. BAM, you're hit with Siona and her friends chased by giant wolves, you've been seeing nothing but this desert planet and Giedi Prime for the entire story, what the fuck is this lush forest?Siona and Leto II in the desert for the third act is definitely strange, but I think if you filmed it majestically enough, like the life changing event for Siona that it is, you could keep people wondering what will happen next. And the finale even has a fucking bazooka explosion, what more could you want?
>>218212199No, that's the thing, they haven't
>>218199912True, brown people worship it for some reason
Let’s not forget you know who shows up at the end even after 27540 years!
>>218194879They won't as they shouldn't, Dune ends in Messiah, the rest was a pure very open about it cashgrab, GEoD is one of the worst pretentious shit ever written
>>218217446Filtered
>>218217511You wish, was actually UNfiltered shit flowing through the pages from CoD to Chapterhouse, wish I had my time back to read something better
>>218217597messiah was a bad book overall. CoD and GEoD are better
>>218194879lucas stole the idea and it looked greatjust dont go full cgi
>>218194879Badly.
