The Last Jedi feels so uniquely outdated. Not even just as a product of its time — at the height of Hollywood franchise regurgitation, internal institutional pushback against growing conservatism, pretentious Gen X “deconstruction” of their favorite childhood media, etc. It also feels obsolete even compared to the other 2 movies in the trilogy. It failed to follow up on the hype generated by The Force Awakens and everything it did was contradicted afterwards by Rise of Skywalker anyways. Consequently The Last Jedi, like the Star Wars sequel trilogy in general, feels like it exists in its own strange void. A bizarre moment in Hollywood where the classic heroes got lectured by women with colorful hair or were reduced to being impotent hermits in favor of ugly Asian women kissing black men.
