The killers are Jessica Bowden (Anna Camp), Marco Davis (Ethan Embry) and Karl (Kraig Dane). Jessica is an obsessive fan of Sidney’s who was inspired by Sidney’s self-help book to kill her abusive husband. She then moved herself and her son to Sidney’s town and befriended Sidney and her family. She felt betrayed when Sidney decided not to get involved in the events of Scream 6 and felt Sidney lost her final girl edge, so she decided to torment Sidney by making her believe Stu Macher was alive and hunting her. Her ultimate goal is killing Sidney and grooming Sidney’s daughter Tatum to become the new final girl, with Jessica as her surrogate mother.Marco is an obsessive fan of Stu’s whose career as a programmer was ruined by his obsession with the Ghostface murders. He was working as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital when Jessica recruited him to create AI deepfakes of Stu and others like Dewey and Roman Bridger as part of her plan to torment Sidney. Karl is a mental patient at the hospital also obsessed with Stu, whom Jessica and Marco groom to do their dirty work until Gale fatally runs him over by accident halfway through the movie, forcing Jessica and Marco to get their hands dirty.Sidney, Tatum, Gale, Sidney’s husband Mark and the twins Chad and Mindy all survive.

Scream worked because it mixed the 90's high school comedy with a slasher, not because they talked about horror movies in it.
