Modern film-making in a nutshell.
>>218199485>>218206866What happened to this artistry
>>218197000was playing D2r and listening to audiobooksking talked about salems lothow he was kinda pressured to remove a scene where guy was swarmed and killed by hundreds of ratsinstead of rats he put in a trap of cut off stairs that lead to a drop to a board with nails and knives
>>218197258woof woof
>>218208303Interesting. As someone who just read that book a couple months ago the scene you’re referring to with the knife board was one of the standout scenes. I’m glad he made that change He has another story called “Graveyard Shift” involving rats eating people that I found kinda dull
>>218207629Monetary interests put before artistic craftmanship and artistry. capitalism
Anyone have anything from the Evil Dead reboot? That one had some good effects.
I miss models and miniatures. They looked so much better. I think they could look even better now with cgi making them blend perfectly and articulate their parts even better

>>218211481>I see how they do it and I still don’t understand how they do itCertain countries have laws about CGI in advertisements. Making fancy contraptions and highly complex setups to get the visuals wanted for ads is a way to get around the laws.

>>218209292Pretty cool that a lot of these "crash cam" type shots in the movie were literally shot on consumer grade compact cameras; and in 1080p, no less.
>>218209874Apparently they used Unreal Engine for a lot of Furiosa, like it was a fucking video game.
>>218220458And people forget Phantom Menace was actually shot on film. It was only Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith that were shot digitally on tape.
>>218221646Can you believe the producers decided these practical effects looked too cheesy and old-school so they then simply painted over them with CGI?
>>218225394Film still would've been shit but I hope that producer got fired
>>218223789I have a miniatures and decor obsessed friend that would kill to have this job.
>>218209292the bts footage looks a million times better than the final product
>>218197319How do you not go mad there
>>218223454like the other anon said, this gives you complete control over the scene even after filming, so you can shoot some scenes at the very beginning and re-edit the background if needed down the line instead of calling everyone back in for a re-shoot. It sucks but I can understand why it happens.
>>218197000Cool i wondered if there was an of that scene. It'd be cool if there was of the original. I saw some comments say when vertical falls she flashed a few crew members even though she's wearing tights but her dress does show it a few times in her song. And this version when she falls also shows it. And even more od in the Tom and Jerry version it straight up shows it for some reason In a scene ths shows her falling to the furnace
>>218224419>get your Mars to Ass
>>218223454Time, expense and control.Check out this BTS of Men In Black. They had to pay for a permit to film there, organise a shutdown of the area to control the background, security for the barriers, hire extras, all the various crew with their jobs to do, a limited time-frame to shoot in due to the daylight, filming multiple takes to make sure they have enough footage if there's a problem, etc.Meanwhile today they would have him sit on a bench in a green room then pay Indians a fraction of the location filming cost to CGI in the surroundings. Maybe they do an okay job. Probably not.
>>218197162>>218219993it wasn't really her. It was a stunt/body double wearing a full helmet/mask of her face. Still really impressive practical work tho
>>218221998Shame your a faggot
>>218197000This had to be funny to make and he really got to see all that
>>218206929CGI just made filmmakers fucking lazy.
>>218227058is all this really necessary?
>>218208912They have to justify having a large CGI effects team in between capeshit.
>>218222500why? It sucks but as long as they got paid there's nothing illegal about it i think.
>>218227754Yes.
>>218222598Is this one of those street performer guys?
>>218208912>get period accurate car (or at least one with an interior that matches the director's vision)>take out the windshield and rig up a camera onto the hood + lighting rig (even in daylight you need diffusers, fill lights, etc.)>if you actually want to film while driving you have to get a special permit and are required by law to have several safety and stunt people on set>have to get all this shit onto location >limited shooting window because you're reliant on daylight or instead of all that >just greenscreen itThe results looks like shit but it's much easier.
>>218223009it's pretty cool that they went through all that practice, iirc wasn't there something about them not practicing together for a few weeks before filming the final confrontation so that it'd feel more intense?
"That Darth Maul guy was really cool""Yeah"

>>218197319
>>218206929I was rewatching some old british TV shows like the Jeremy Brett Holmes and Jeeves & Wooste and all the sets are full of period props that look fantastic. Old cars and carriages, art deco cookware, victorian furnishings. The environments look so lived in and of course everything people grab is actually there.
>>218223806>All kino entrancesI've got to give it to them. They really did manage to kill The Joker with the sequel.

>>218222859kek
>>218228459>akshually..no one gives a single shit about muh 50's original
I'm not in the industry, but from what I understand a big reason why they use so much CGI is due to time. They created such accelerated schedules for production that they need to film every live action scene in about 90 days, and then they pass it off to multiple CGI firms simultaneously to fill it out. It's also why there's so many reshoots - because they get everything done so quickly, if they find something doesn't work with the CGI, they need to coordinate time and effort to pull all the actors back in, and then get the scenes CGI'd again.
>>218208912>Why?It costs less money to just green screen it.Computers have gotten so powerful that real life is more expensive now.
>>218210588Nice pic
>>218228459>>218228767The Thing (2011) is not a "remake". It's a prequel.

>>218222874Funny how what George perceived as too much of a tonal whiplash would become 95% of all pop-culture movies produced nowadays, especially actions flicks, superhero flicks, and anything fantasy/science fiction.
