Star wars is kinda cool when you're about 12. The troopers look cool, lightsabers are wicked. But that's about it. It has no further meaning, the force is made up. There's no deeper philosophical aspect to it than ying and yang.Which is why redditors love it so much.Lotr on the other hand, is cool for the battles when you're around that age. But then you rewatch them again at a later stage of your teen life, and you realise it is so much more than fighting bad guys with a sword.

>>218199461I do think its fine to be excited about movies like that, but I don't think he'd react so emotionally if it wasn't tied to the Star Wars IP. I think it is the overreaction to an IP that bothers people, like someone getting that excited for a new Jaws movie. It comes off as them being excited for it being strictly a new Jaws movie rather than it looking like a good movie, you know? And it doesn't help that the sequels really hammered in the 'remember ___?' especially in the first sequel movie.
