>Tolkien tried to inject meaning in to his works, loved nature, philosophical metaphors, teaching about life>star wars: dude! The force! And laser swords! And le bad vs le good balances life yo! And space ships! Bzoooom pew pew pew! Bing, bang!
>>218199636i have never watched any star wars movie
The original trilogy was quite philosophical and did indeed offer teachings about life and love for nature. But yes, the Lord of the Rings is far more high brow.
>>218199636Virtuously signaled, OP.
>>218199657I only watched the prequels. Then I got around to watching the original trilogy.I get that it was neat at the time but they badly aged, and there wasn't really an important message. I still need to watch return of the jedi. When I have a free weekend, I'll give it a watch. There's nothing deep to it, just a space adventure. I don't see the hype around it. I can see why redditors are obsessed with it. It tries to explain moral issues in the most simplistic way.
THE WILL OF THE FORCE
>>218199717>The original trilogy was quite philosophical and did indeed offer teachings about life and love for natureI've yet to find it.
>>218199754redditors like star wars because they heckin love science and star wars was the first """science fiction"""" work they were exposed to in childhood
>>218199803yeah good point, redditors dont love LotR as well
>>218199830Why do redditors love using swear words and applying them to every bit of context?
>>218199795It's basically the Hero's Journey mixed with Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress. Early drafts were so similar to the later that George's seriously pondered to buy the copyright rights for it .
>>218199864fake news
>>218199864Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Lucas met Campbell later in life and credited him with helping him "get the story right" during the rewrite process, ensuring Luke Skywalker hit every mythological beat from the "Call to Adventure" to the "Atonement with the Father."Also Flash Gordon. There's also some Frank Herbert’s Dune bits in it. WWII flicks like The Dam Busters (1955) and 633 Squadron are also heavy influences. Westerns Specifically the "Spaghetti Westerns". Han Solo isn't a space pilot so much as he is a cowboy. The cantina scene is a classic saloon standoff, and the character of the rogue with a heart of gold is a staple of the American frontier mythos.
>>218199795It's very spiritual and emphasizes empowerment through taking the right path, rather than the easy path. The Yoda stuff is generally the best at pronouncing it. A good example is Luke's failure in the force cave. Yoda tells him he won't need his weapon in there. Lo and behold Luke doesn't listen. Because of this he goes into the cave and he's confronted with Vader, because he's seeking confrontation and violence. In this confrontation he's the first to draw his weapon. This is why he fails and he sees his own reflection in the mask. Because it's what he is becoming. Fear and impatience is leading him down a path of attempted flawed shortcuts to achieve his goals. You can see the spirituality and appreciation for nature in Yoda's whole "unassuming weird gremlin is actually quite wise and powerful" thing, as well as his whole "luminous beings" speech. They're themes that are spread throughout the entire trilogy but those are some examples of where they're directly addressed.
