Even if it was amazing to watch back when it aired, this episode was the exact point where LOST went downhill:>having sci-fi explanations over spiritual ones>character flanderization, specially with Locke and Kate>adding unsolved mysteries like Walt speaking backwards>Jack has talked with two of the characters introduced this season before the crash
>>218200515I lose a massive amount of respect for anyone if I hear they watched more than a few episodes of this. If they start telling me they like it or that I should watch it, I generally think of them the same way I would someone who wears a covid mask now.
>>218200755you just had to be there :)
>>218200755I dropped it when the Polar Bear turned up.
>>218202438Same.I was expecting dinos or freak monsters. This was just too weird for me.
>>218200515My favorite was the scene where two boats were chasing and firing at each other for seemingly unknown reasons. The characters in the scene were unknown, never seen again and we have absolutely no idea what that scene was even about. It must have been another plot they meant to introduce and didnt and somehow it got left it.
>>218202557>>218200515JJ Abrams has spoken about how he enjoys “opening mystery boxes” and then seeing where they lead. The problem with this approach is that sometimes weird shit happens and then it doesn't actually lead anywhere.
>>218200515Say what you want about the show but when they rotated that wheel and the island went POOF it was one of the most holy shit moments in tv and cinema
>>218200755I think too many people that dropped the show at the time tend to hyperbolize its issues. During the first season, the mysteries are just a portion of the plot, while the characters have a lot more focus and move the story. It also helped that it was always more supernatural and spiritual than freaky sci-fi shit. Personally I love the eerie feeling that S1 has, and I find it to be the only rewatchable one. Also, most of the mysteries are solved during the season. However, once S2E01 starts betraying some of the stablished core ideas, and bringing non stopping mysteries that never get solved, by focusing more on them instead of keep fleshing out the characters, the series started to slowly die. For me, it was during S4 when it was clear that the writers didn't know what to do. Anyway the ending was fine, if you actually watched the whole thing of course.>>218202438>>218202527That was explained on S3 and it's a basic supernatural trope, why would you drop it because of that but not for a smoke monster that makes mechanical sounds? I doubt you watched it, sorry.
>>218200515LOST stayed good until the end. It's still one of my all-time favorite shows. There'll never be another like it because current writers are simply not as capable of being as creative. And Lindelof himself fell apart after this where the best he could do was "WHAT IF WATCHMEN, BUT ABOUT BAD WHITE PEOPLE INSTEAD OF THE NUCLEAR COLD WAR?"
Its been 10 or so years since i watched it but why didnt the others just announce who they were rather than kidnapping and infiltrating if they were the "good guys?"How did the real tom sawyer actually get the island, who brought him?Why did didnt they just let the bad guy leave the island, they really had no reason to assume he would unleash evil
>>218203466Didn’t the polar bear turn up in the third episode or something? When I realised it wasn’t just going to be a plane crash survival on a deserted island show I dropped it. Lost was complete and utter ass shit.
>>218203496You are clearly retarded. Please get checked out by a doctor.
>>218204482Polar bear appears in the pilot.
