The new one will never be a faithful adaption as that was never the goal in the first place, it's just nobody would watch their shit as a new IP so wearing an old one as a skinsuit generates at least some hype due to the name itself. The opportunity to shit on whatever you have fond memories of from your childhood or teenage years is only a bonus. Biggest problem with the franchise is the fact it’s called Highlander, ie you’re forced to stick with MacLeod or retconning in a never before mentioned nephew to justify the name. Without it you would have much more freedom to make spinoffs and sequels/prequels without repeating yourself or needing to come up with stupid shit to allow more movies to be made.
