the rebuilds are interesting in that you go in thinking they're a remake, but turns out it's the equivalent of a new game+; the original series and movies did happen, and this is a second and third, fourth cycle Shinji has to run through changing his decisions until he reaches the good ending. so it's really a sequel to the original made by a more mature anno who know understood better what he was trying to say. this new one, who the fuck knows what it'll be with new creators at the helm

It's the reality of all animes. You need money to produce it, you need to convince investors that it's going to be a huge hit. So you have to connect your anime production to some previously established metrics. Aka Manga sales, old animes, huge industry names, etc.

Rebuild 3 and 4 are some of the worst things I have ever sat through. Ive been a fan of Eva since I was 13 and IMO End of Evangelion is one of the greatest endings ever. The rebuilds retroactively ruin it and make me wish I didnt watch them so my perspectives on the series wouldnt be tainted. Dogshit plot, dogshit cgi, dogshit writing, all whilst pissing on the IP and fans of it. MD Geist and apocalypse zero are ludokino in comparison to this shit.
