Video rental shops are a thing again.
>>
>>218207783
vinyl at least sounds different than digital
buying physical medium for movies is just stupid
>>
>rental
Yeah keep distracting us with meaningless bullshit lol. Anything BUT torrents PLEASE goy...
>>
>>218207808
Keeps them away from finding out about the private trackers so I'm all for them renting instead.
>>
It's not really a revival because many of us didnt stop but good for them I suppose.
>>
Good subtitles and special features are worth it. Audio commentaries are a treasure that enriches the movie.

These are make-work meme articles. They put a spotlight on a single indie store, share zero dollar figures, interview a few patrons who might talk about how they can't get XYZ on streaming and move on. Hundreds of these articles exist across the U.S. and Canada.

The vinyl revival is somewhat real, but that's more of a collector's novelty than an actual format people listen to. You can tell because there are no decent midrange turntables. It's all garbage or high-end stuff.
>>
>>218207783
i used to live within walking distance to one but it closed unsurprisingly. was pretty much right up until covid. i think the guy who owned it has another store in that strip mall, and it could reopen, but i doubt that will happen now.

It sounds worse. Movies on disc look better than streaming.
>>
>>218207803

disagree. Streaming formats compress the shit out of video so they can be streamed faster. And if you maintain a local cache of ripped movies, the files either need to be compressed or they take up a huge amount of harddrive space (which ideally need backups so when you drive crashes you don't lose your whole library).
Also, if you're into old films or arthouse/indie stuff, it can be a lot harder to find them via streaming and may require you to have several subscriptions just to watch one thing you like.
At a certain point, if you give a shit about image and audio quality, it makes more sense to collect physical media.

The actual turntable is a pretty small part of the equation. It just needs to spin reliably at the right speed. Preamp is going to be more important (and arguably cartridge/needle) as well as speakers.
Most of the audiophile bullshit is snake oil sold to people with too much money.

t. audio professional with sizeable record collection that is actually played

I understand people buying dvds and bluray, but I know a lot of zoomers who fetishize VHS and brag about the size of their collection. That's fucking stupid to me. VHS sucks. They just like it because it's outdated.

I found a box full of Manga VHS and only took a couple as pieces to put on the shelf. I wanted to hoard them but of course I had to move again and would have only thrown them all away. Practically using VHS now is nostalgic time travel thats all.
>>
>>218209299
I don't stream nor do I want to so I'm not going to disagree with you on that
That said, I have a few hards drive that take up barely any space in my house and hold hundreds of high quality films and tv shows. It's far more cost effective and take less room than buying physical media. Also, it's way easier to find movies if you're not technologically retarded and know how to pirate.

There's also more than enough functioning turntables still around in the 2nd hand market. Everyone I know with a vinyl collection just buys their turntables at flea markets. The demand for them is so low that you can find high end hardware for a pittance. When the choice is ~50 bucks for a used turntable(manufactured by Pioneer or JVC, has worked reliably since the 80s) or ~100 bucks for the cheapest new one(manufactured by a company you've never heard of before, might break next month) it's a pretty easy choice.

Wealthy liberal hipsters in LA love it when poor people are forced out of a hobby because once all the dirty poors are gone. Only then can they finally see value in the things they worked hard to destroy. Leftists only care about their status, so they only allow themselves to enjoy things once those things are scarce. If you want to enjoy something, first you need to destroy it. That's how the bastards function.

Personally the main reason I bought bluerays in recent years is because the best stuff isnt on streaming platforms most the time and it felt like less hassle to walk 5 mins to the local trading store than wading through a minefield of dodgy torrent links. And of course the main argument against torrenting is, it's illegal.

>You wouldnt download a film

Its like everyone just forgot about that huh
